The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
We just rolled out a couple of dandy new features:
* The list views on the homepage and iReports page now include filters for time, so you can see, for example, the most commented iReports in the last 24 hours, the last week or all time.
* Your "My Stuff" page now includes a list of files in each story, along with a small thumbnail image and the upload status for individual elements. Not sure what that means? Check the FAQ .
Questions? Thoughts? Please drop them in the comments!
Nice element additions. Clearly a good idea not to allow editing of the image content, but rahter show the status. Considering the way uploads are approved, this could assure the ireport staffs' workload doesn't tripple overnight while offering the user the comfort of "not wondering" what's going on with their story.
After a post is uploaded and successful, this should be made more apparent to the user so that the "status" function is noted and the user becomes aware instantly.
Controlling users is an issue, especially considering tracting a specific computer and associated IP # is so difficult, if not impossible right now. However, this capability should be available within 6 months or so.
I would suggest intergrating it when it's available. Banning, or deleting an abusing user is not so hard, keeping them from logging back on with another name is.
With computer IP # technology at your hands, a ban would end up being, a ban because you're banning that specific computer rather than the network it's navigating to ireport from.
Not a huge issue, but my last experiece and the emails and phone calls I received because of it led me to believe many so called "top" reporters and many others could be lost because of a small few, this wouldn't be good.
There are a few thrid party providers that have nearly completed this ability that seem to lead the pack. If interested, feel free to drop me an email and I'll provide the list.
Otherwise, the only thing I have to offer at this point is that the platform was/is an awesome idea. The latest numbers I've looked at indicate a very large ( and I'll bet somewhat unexpected) jump in viewership and interactivity. Great work folks!
regards,
TW (rcc)
Never mind, I see you already have that function.
I'm not sure that I'm not so far behind the learning curve of the programmers at IR that these feature suggestions I write mean anything meaningful, hopefully I'm not embarrassing myself.
Concerning the Highest Rated link, I’ve noticed this category has more or less meaningless information. Its results are more arbitrary than true. I’ve seen outstanding things added to the site more than a month ago and more with ratings that went to 20+ 5 stars without receiving a blemish. Only then to fall victim someone only interested in bringing down any good rating – it appeared. Over time this kills any meaningful the results that could be displayed.
One thing that won’t correct, but could help, is a counting method that takes into account how many 5 stars were received by any particle posting before it received its first lower rating. If a posting received 23 5 stars rating before a 1 star– let’s say – then this would end up with an overall highest rating because of that string of ratings, rather than averaging out data that doesn’t mean anything in the end.
Let me know if you want me to stop posting things you’ve already thought of and I am simply wasting finger taps…
Where is the "Create New Blob TAB?"
I filled out my Profile page three times but it will not POST. CODE 404?
