Kucinich and the kit

Hopefully you've noticed the great videos on iReport.com from the "iReport kit" -- a mobile kiosk for recording and uploading unedited and unfiltered stories from you. It's like the upload page on iReport.com, but right in the middle of a news event while it's happening. People walk up to the kit and record themselves on camera or upload their own photos and videos directly to iReport.com. We've already seen examples of the iReport kit in action -- collecting amazing footage during Hurricane Dolly and opinions at events like the Personal Democracy Forum . Right now the iReport kit is in Denver, collecting eyewitness accounts and commentary from the Democratic National Convention. We've seen a few familiar faces using the kit -- including Congressman Dennis Kucinich , and director Spike Lee -- and a host of new faces to iReport.com. Welcome to the community. Remember, the kit is on the move. You can keep track of it by following our Twitter feed . And look for the kit next week in St. Paul during the Republican National Convention.

McBush is so joules of Obama since “we the people “love him and want to watch him more and more. Who wants to watch a man left his wife penny less and went after younger women I remember his best body Ragan and his wife even did not talk to him for months. It is not Obama’s fault that people love him and watch him and follow his life not just in United State, all around the world are watching him and loving him and I know tonight his speech watch all around the world. Good for him and he is a simple of freedom, American dream and hope.

Please cut the crab and show any thing about Obama since that is the reason we watch your station. Who care who is McBush Vice president "WE THE PEOPLE" want to see more of our future president OBAMA.

The selection of Sarah Palin is an insult to Americans regarding their intelligence and judgment. To think that Mc Cain could persuade voters by selected a woman VP, who has no national experience within months of the election, is just ludicrous. Supporters of Hillary Clinton stood by her side for countless display of her worthiness of Presidential position. Frankly, John Mc Cain appears to lack reason and judgment, which both are crucial in moving this country in a new and prosperous direction. It is imperative that we Americans pledge are vote to two Americans who have through experience and  an outstanding campaign proven the possibilities of a new and better America…We need Barack Obhama and Joseph Binden.

This is a prime example of McCain’s misjudgment. I think it is despicable and unfortunate he would choose a female VP for the sake of gaining Hillary voters. How does an inexperience VP help anyone? I can’t imagine voting for Mrs. Palin just because she is a woman. Does McCain think Americans are that gullible? Furthermore, where does this leave our country if something happens to McCain? In the hands of an inexperienced Vice president that no one really knows, we would be doomed. I think McCain is studying right out of a Bush handbook.

It is amazing what people will do for political gain. McCain has confirmed my decision to vote for Barack Obama, a man who loves his country so much, that he makes good decisions from the start.

I have never wished to be an American as much as I do now.I have never followed a political campagne as much as I did the Democratic Convention.I felt the excitment along with all of America.I am reminded so much of the thrill I felt during the John and Bobby Kennedy campaignes of the 60s.Good luck to Barack Obama, this is a new beginning for America and the beginning of new hope for the middle class who suffer so much.

I only wish we Canadians were able to choose the leaders of our political parties. We have the most boring political races imaginable.Does Barack have a Canadian cousin we can surely use him.

The audacity to admit Susan Palin was picked to entice Hilliary Clinton’s 18 million voters. Actually, this is an insult to Hilliary Clinton. How can you compare the two? Hillary needs to address this matter.

The rest of the world is clear on this election and truly wish America to once again provide the strong leadership they (Western Europe, and 3rd world countries that benefit from a strong U.S. economy and physical protection, etc.) once enjoyed.  I continue to hear this first hand in my travels abroad.  Anyone abroad with any intelligence and a voice to be heard realize what is at stake in both world economy and world security.  They talk about this election all the time and consider this a critical election for the entire world.  If you are unsure about this statement start following such things as Putin’s Russian (huge oil and gas reserves) wealth, federal policies and actions (both domestic and abroad) as Russian leaders have finally figured out that being an economic power is a fast track to being a responsive well aimed military power like the U.S (Russian power on steroids and the old boys are still in charge).

This Palin should stay home and raise her 5 children and downs baby will need her  A women with integrity would not accept this with all her personal responsibility. Palin does not even have a law degree, she has a degree in journalism.  How dare they compare her to Barsk, who is a Harvard graduate, law degree, senator, whose judgement is wise and he is very intelligent.  I am a women, a single mom and I am not proud to have this type of women in office. It scares the daylights out of me to think  she might be President. She was picked solely for the fact she is a women.  How does a mother with moral values leave thier children to be President.  I would turn it down like any moral person would.  Do not compare her to Hillary, Hillary ,s child is grown and she is at a place in her life that she has the time to be President . Tne reason i say president is because  72 yr old Mc Cain is sure to not make his term  ,that is what we are looking at . it is an outrage , stay home and raise your children, soccer MOM   peggy Marzell

Barak "s speech last night was astounding. I am so tired of listening to Amy Holmes thr republican stagetist on CNN,  she never will give an inch to admit when the republicans are wrong, even last night after Barak<s speech she wouldnt complment him.Amy Holmes  is atypical example of a women who tries to hard, she always has to be right, even when she is wrong, do we want her for President,, True strong women of character have nothing to prove  , Amy tries way to hard.. Find a boyfriend Amy, maybe you will reconnect with your femine side.  After all we are still women, meant to bear children  and guess what Palin, doesnt the bible tell you a mother s job is to be submissive to her husband,  I will quote the verse next blog , it also say,s your role is to RAISE YOUR CHILDREN, since we like quote bible in government, saying homosexuality is wrong and abortion and CREATIONISM in school, WELL LETS NOT BE A HYPOCRIT  Palin .THIS COULD ACTUALLY BE WORSE THEN BUSH!!!!!!!!

I love all this talk about Palin as the governor of Alaska like its such a big deal. There are less than 700,000 people in that state, its practically a medium to small size city in terms of population. Another bad decision by McCain, as a democrat am happy but if some how he was to win and something happens to him we would have a HUGE PROBLEM, IT COULD BE A MAYOR DISASTER. Palin will not get one Hillary vote, she is anti-abortion rights, doesn't believe in global warming, wants to get polar bears off the endangered list beacause she wants to drill for oil. She's a backward republican and will actually hurt the McCain ticket, thanks we didn't need more help but we'll take it.

I noticed the Republicans are now showing interest in Hurricane Gustav. They sure didn't do so when Katrina hit 3 yrs. ago. The Goverment's/Bush's PITIFUL NEGLECT of the people & their circumstances(due to the devestating result of Katrina),because of the magnitude of destructon, shows clearly the lack of heart, care & concern for the citizens of the United States of America. It took a celebrity Brad Pitt, Ty Penington & other volunteer's to step up & DO something to HELP the people get started to rebuild, and that's just a small fraction of the HUGE job that still remains. I was raised being taught your COUNTRY will help it's own in time of need when disasters hit. My question is How can the President whose name happens to be George Bush, feel proud of letting those people & that part of the U.S. completely down? It is a disgrace. It's sickening! What is going on? It's pretty obvious! Under the circumstances what's of utmost importance is the Goverment being there, ready to HELP the CHILDREN, young adults,& Seniors that need a helping hand in anyway deemed nesessary for their safety & well-being. Why couldn't the President do something? Where were the RESOURCES?

There is a small island south of New Orleans that is called Grand Isle. It is about 7 miles long and 1 mile wide. This looks like where Gustav is going to hit. It has a Coast Guard station. It runs oil platform helos, and host mostly fishing familys. Will it still be there? I think the last hurricane wiped out their bridge.

McCain has insulted thousands of Hillary supporters, thinking they would vote for him simply because he picked a woman as his running mate. Hillary supporters are smart, thinking women. McCain obviously thinks they're dumb women who would vote for ANY woman. He thinks wrong.

Palin is Anti-woman, and it's obvious to everyone. No Hillary supporter would vote for an anti-woman candidate.

I cannot believe what I am hearing now. Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant. It is obvious Mrs. Palin cannot even control her own children, never the less a whole country. She has bad judgment just like McCain. She didn’t know her daughter was sexually active?   If she did know, she didn’t talk to her daughter about STD’s and birth control. This is a preview of what’s coming, between McCain’s medical conditions and Palin’s chaotic personal life, the most important things in this country will be over looked. Mrs. Palin should be focusing on her investigation and children at this time, not accepting VP positions.

WOW! What a breath of fresh air, Sarah blows Obama away! I have NEVER been so excited about a Vice-Presidential candidate. She will be an excellent Vice-President and a GREAT President in 2016 when she is elected President. Nearly everyone I've talked to about Sarah has only positive things to say about her, and I live in a Democratic state. Even some Hilary supporters here are saying good things about Sarah Palin. I can't wait until November!

It seems as though every time the media attacks her, she only gains more sympathy and support. Thank you Liberal media, and please, please, keep up the Palin attacks. The latest polls show that Sarah is now more popular that Obama, Biden, and even her running mate John McCain. Thanks for all your help in making Sarah Palin the subject of every dinner table conversation in America.

I would like to know why the news media is not reporting on this mater

The Republicans have just spent a month going completely frothy over the need to drill for oil and natural gas in every backyard in America, claiming it'll lower gasoline prices at the pump.

But did you know that in the meantime, they've been preparing to secret all that natural gas out of the country and sell it to the Japanese?

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) did:

The full text of Wyden’s letter to Secretary Bodman is below:

September 2, 2008

The Honorable Samuel W. Bodman

U.S. Department of Energy

1000 Independence Avenue, SW

Washington, DC 20585

Dear Secretary Bodman,

On June 3, 2008 and July 30, 2008 respectively, your Department issued and affirmed an order pursuant to Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act that will allow two major integrated oil companies – ConocoPhillips and Marathon Oil – to export 98.1 billion cubic feet of Alaskan natural gas to Japan and other Pacific Rim countries.  This order, which will allow the export of as much natural gas as is used by 1.4 million American families in a year, comes at a time when the President had demanded that the moratoria on oil and gas drilling along our environmentally-sensitive coastal areas be lifted and Americans are being warned that their winter heating bills are going to be dramatically higher.   The Administration is trying to have it both ways – arguing that we need to drill everywhere because we don’t have adequate energy supplies, while finding that we have so much energy that big oil companies can export it overseas and keep prices here at home higher than they would otherwise be.  On its face, the order that Department has issued to allow the continued export of Alaskan natural gas does not meet the public interest test required by the Natural Gas Act and I respectfully request that you review and revoke it.

As you know, the United States has been exporting natural gas from Alaska to Japan since 1969.  Historically, these exports were deemed in the public interest because there were no pipelines to the lower-48 states and no West Coast LNG terminals to bring this gas to market.  Indeed, even in this most recent order, which would allow ConocoPhillips and Marathon to continue to export Alaskan natural gas when their current long-term authorization expires next April, the Department dismissed the possibility of supplying this gas to the lower-48 and only considered the local need for this natural gas within Alaska in its determination that the proposed export met the statute’s public interest test.

What the Department should have fully considered, but did not, was the need for this natural gas in the lower-48 and the fact that the capability to import LNG to the West Coast has been commercially available as of May 15, 2008 – the date Sempra LNG, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, announced that its Energía Costa Azul LNG terminal in Baja California was ready for commercial operation.  In fact, the Department appears to have relied upon inaccurate and out of date information submitted by ConocoPhillips and Marathon on this point.  For example, the Department’s June 3rd order cites arguments by these companies that, “(w)ith respect to national need, CPANGC ConocoPhillips Alaska Natural Gas Corporation and Marathon state shipment of LNG from the Applicants’ Kenai LNG facilities to the lower 48 states does not appear to be a viable option due to certain regulatory and economic hurdles.”

The hurdles cited by the companies, according to the Department, are the Jones Act which restricts shipments between U.S. ports to U.S. flagged vessels, the argument “that there are no existing U.S. west coast LNG receiving terminals,” and the cost of shipping LNG to the East and Gulf coasts would be prohibitive.  The Costa Azul facility was specifically designed to provide natural gas to U.S. markets, as well as Mexican customers.  It is connected by a cross-border pipeline system capable of delivering natural gas to the U.S. market today, and that system is being expanded to provide even more capability.  Under the North American Free Trade Agreement, there are no additional duties or tariffs on natural gas trade between the two countries.  And because your Department already approves all exports and imports of natural gas between the U.S. and Mexico, it (and you) should be well aware of these capabilities.  Since the facility is located in Mexico, the Jones Act does not apply.

Coming as it does, at a time when the Energy Information Administration (EIA), an agency within your own Department, is projecting that American consumers will be facing these high natural gas prices, it is inconceivable that the Department would accept, and apparently base its own decision upon, such flawed and out of date information.  As described by the EIA in its most recent Short-Term Energy Outlook, Americans are facing dramatically higher natural gas costs this year, and especially this winter.  According to EIA, the average price of natural gas consumers are expected to pay this winter will increase by more than 22% nationwide, and by more than 24% in the Western U.S. where the Alaskan gas would add to supply.   EIA projects that natural gas prices will continue to remain high in future years with the spot price in 2009 averaging 25% more than 2007.

To add insult to injury, as argued by the Chugach Electric Association, the largest electric utility in Alaska and which uses natural gas to generate electricity, the Department’s order did not even adequately address the need for gas within Alaska.  Indeed, the Department rejected the pleas from Chugach to condition the export of Alaskan gas on assurances that Alaska’s own need for natural gas was met.

In short, it is hard to see how the Department concluded that the proposed export of Alaskan natural gas met the required public interest test with regard to either Alaskan or lower-48 energy needs. For the Department to categorically reject an opportunity to provide additional supplies of energy to American consumers,  both in Alaska and on the West Coast , at a time of record energy prices and instead let these companies send that energy to overseas markets, demands a Secretarial-level review.

Finally, I am also concerned about the fact that at least two U.S.-based LNG companies – Cheniere Marketing, Inc. and Freeport LNG Development, L.P.--  have also applied to the Department for LNG export authority.  Neither of these companies produces LNG.  Rather they propose to re-export LNG already received, or expected to be received, at their U.S. LNG terminals. In Cheniere’s case, the company is applying for permission to re-export up to 64 billion cubic feet of LNG over the next two years and 24 billion cubic feet for Freeport – both from LNG terminals on the Gulf Coast.  If America is really so short of energy that we need to drill in national wildlife refuges and other sensitive areas, why should energy supplies, sitting in U.S. terminals --roughly equivalent to what an additional 1.1 million families would use in a year -- be sent back out of the country simply because these energy companies can get a higher price from a foreign buyer?    In light of the Department’s questionable interpretation of the Natural Gas Act public interest standard in the case of ConocoPhillips and Marathon, I would like to know how the Department intends to apply that statutory standard in the two re-export applications filed by Cheniere and Freeport.   I would also like to know what action you are going to take to ensure that unlike the Alaskan natural gas export proceeding, these cases are decided on complete and accurate information.

Because Congress may soon consider legislation affecting US energy supplies, I request that you respond to my letter by September 15.

Sincerely,

       Ron Wyden

       United States Senator
