You asked, she answered

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took questions last night from the online communities at Digg and iReport in the first Digg Dialogg interview, streamed live on from the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. Our own ReallyRick (really Rick Seno from Dallas, Texas), asked the final question, about why Congress' approval ratings are so low. Watch Pelosi's answer to all of the questions in the video on » I'm pretty excited about this kind of interview -- I'd like to think that adding new voices to the mix can elevate the conversation, or at the very least keep it interesting. What do you think? Did it work this time? Leave a comment to let us know.

I was proud to represent those of us who submitted our questions via iReport.  This was an excellent interview in which that questions pulled no punches!  At first I did not think Jay Addleson would ask some of the top Dugg questions but he did without hesitation.  Speaker Pelosi seemed poised and unrattled by some of the biting questions and I applauded her for taking part.

I loved this interview (: It was really refreshing seeing real questions being asked and answered right there.  I thought the questions were good, and that she handled herself real well.

Why does Barack Obama call himself an African American? To be an African is to be a native or inhabitant of Africa, or a person; especially a black person of African ancestry. To be an American has to do with loving America, being proud of it, and defending it. So if Barack Obama is black and white, why does he not call himself a Mulatto American, which is a person that is black and white.  It seems to me, that by accepting this label as an Afican American, that what he is saying is that he seems to identify more strongly and proudly with the black part of his heritage than the white. As a matter of fact, he seems to be denying his white heritage totally. At a time when he is supposedly trying to reach out to white, blue collar voters, wouldn't it make more sense to identify himself equally regarding his heritage. It appears like it is more important that he becomes America's first African American President than America's first partially black, or Mulatto president, that which he is.

If you are going to Vote for McCain, just because Barack Obama is Black, or Hillary Clinton did not get the nod from her party, or just because you do not like Obama. You are indefinitely WRONG!!! Do the right thing for once in your life and Select a Candidate that can actually "Make a Difference"!!

For too long the "American Public" has been kept under the blind folds. For too long the people of our great Nation have been neglected under the "Bush Administration". Selecting a Republican will only seal our doom, and forever cast us in to the shadows.

Sometimes it takes an outsider to correct the errors of our ways and Barack Obama, is a candidate that has the Voice of the People, Charisma, and Support from his fellow Democrats to see this Nation spring back to its Original and Admirable Status of Democracy, once so coveted by Other Nations around the World. With a great line up of supporters, Joe Biden as VP, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, John Kerry, and countless of supports from Washington, this "Young Man" (Barack Obama) is ready for the Challenges that face him ahead and is definitely ready to become our next Commander in Chief and next United States President.

Put the differences aside, race is not the issue, age is not the issue, and gender is no longer an issue. The issues that lay are within our own selves. Open your eyes America and see the world as it's meant to be seen, with an open heart, with a caring heart, and an Intelligent Mind that is ready to lead us to the 21st Century.

After 400 Years of Independence, America is now ready, more than ever for Barack Obama. Cultural Diversity is increasing and so must our views. As Ronald Reagan rightfully said in his speech to the People of West Berlin, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" So MUST WE!! To the people of United States, let's break the differences of Race, Gender, and Political Affiliations aside and Select a Candidate that is worthy of and ready to "Make a Difference" and Representing the People of United States as our “Next Commander in Chief”

I applaud the Mouse Speaker for her courage in addressing questions from the people of America. Of course, Ms. Pelosi did her usual stunningly consistent status quo response performance. Congress has tried, and failed, due to the president and the republicans and the Senate. That was the result of a sit-down chat witht he Mouse Speaker.

However, she did reveal something quite interesting that I am hopeful CNN will follow up. Ms. Pelosi stated unequivocally that she understands her mandate was to end the war in Iraq. And on that Congress has failed miserably. She then goes on to offer rationale, platitudes, excuses and why it is necessary to elect Obama in order to achieve that task.

CNN, you MUST take Ms. Pelosi to task for that deception. Nancy Pelosi and House Judiciary COmmittee Chair John Conyers have done everything in their power to defeat the people's representatives (led by Dennis Kucinich) who have recognized that the impeachment and removal of the Commander in Chief and his vice president is the only way Congress will end the war in Iraq. Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Conyers, contrary to all the efforts of Kucinich, the Senate Intelligence Committee, the authors of numerous books, the organizations that have arisen from the grassroots and the many leaders in academia, have maintained a moratorium on speaking in favor of impeachment, actively pushing for impeachment and acknowledging the lies by this administration that have cost more than one million deaths and injuries.

Ms. Pelosi was let off the hook this time. But she will not continue to successfully duck and dodge the many questions that MUST be asked about her intent to protect this administration from the people's judicial right to impeach him and his vice president. Ms. Pelosi MUST be taken to task. And if she is intent on covering for him, it MUST be at her own political peril.

So will CNN hold her feet to the fire? Will CNN push Conyers on the issue? Will CNN get McCain cornered on Iraq? Will the current IMPEACHMENT ongoing probe ever make the front page of any newspaper in the nation?

Obama is a breath of fresh air compared to most politicans. Politics today is so low grade and really about self. Obama wants to win but not at any cost. News commentators spin redneck rhetoric about Obama; but, the man is a welcome change. He is pratical and gives hope to the people. Obama will do an excellent job as the commander in chief.

The selection of Sarah Palin is an insult to Americans regarding their intelligence and judgment. To think that Mc Cain could persuade voters by selected a woman VP, who has no national experience within months of the election, is just ludicrous. Supporters of Hillary Clinton stood by her side for countless display of her worthiness of the Presidential position. Frankly, John Mc Cain appears to lack reason and judgment, which both are crucial in moving this country in a new and prosperous direction. It is imperative that we Americans pledge are vote to two Americans who have through experience and  an outstanding campaign proven the possibilities of a new and better America…We need Barack Obhama and Joseph Binden.

I am a 72 yr old loyal Republican woman in extremely good health.  I am very disappointed in the game playing VP appointment by John McCain. Sarah Palin would be ONE heart beat away from being President of the United States. McCain is 72 yrs old. Every time I see McCain  hesitate or get a bit confused or mixed up I know it's age showing. At 72 yrs one has wisdom perhaps but not sharpness and clarity.Often as one ages we fall back on automatic responses that were reliable in the past.  We have seen that with Senator McCain. And I now doubt his wisdom and certainly his judgment.

Hillary Clinton as a possible President or Vice President is one thing but this is unbelievable. It would be a good movie script.Wait. Wasn't it already a TV series!!!! I have never failed to vote but I will not vote for McCain/Palin.

If we don’t very decisively and quickly put the oil market in the bottom position in terms of reliable energy sources and usage (call this the Green Energy Wave) then our home security is greatly at risk when looking squarely in the eye of such wild and crazed leadership (Venezula, North Korea, Iran, etc.) who’s cultures are still based on terrorizing the general public and continually dialoging against the U.S. and Western Europe (Oops, looks like Georgia’s suddenly in trouble).   However, as an example for potential change or power shifting please think about what else is currently ongoing.  All of the Russian money is derived from oil and gas, but watch them closely as you see these incredibly rich oil countries (including Arab countries and others) diversify into city buildings, profitable growth/market producing properties, and infra structures both here and abroad as in ASAP (this will actually help stabilize a country-to-county interaction situation as destabilization hurts interactive business profits).  Hopefully, the energy responsible Green Wave U.S. profit oriented community will continue to catch onto the obvious and keep the newly developed eco friendly jobs/industry in-house.

I have often said that I don’t care whether Global Warming is actually happening as long as the general public believes it happening.   The truth is irrelevant, just like Arab oil will become irrelevant sooner than you think.  The result of this speeding perception is an unstoppable Green Wave and this is a healthy thing for the entire world.  You’ve just got to love it.  By the way, invest your money in green building.

What was  Obama and the DNC doing when Faye historically made landfall on Florida  5 times and 11 people died in the floods? The DNC kept their party going , media ate it up , and Obama and Biden kept slinging the mud while citizens of the FORGOTTEN state of Florida suffered in silence. Such a double standard

I have heard so much about Palin's 17 year old daughter having a baby like it was a new concept....Really how many working parents REALLY know every minute of the day what their teenage child is doing, the key word here is WORKING. Working parents try to instill the RIGHT things to do but really WHOS choice is it? Our kids are going to do things "OMG" and it wont matter how much we try to teach them ,we will get embarrassed!I dont feel that any one should be talking about her daughter being pregnant is her daughter making decisions for US NO!!!

WOW! What a breath of fresh air, Sarah blows Obama away! I have NEVER been so excited about a Vice-Presidential candidate. She will be an excellent Vice-President and a GREAT President in 2016 when she is elected President. Nearly everyone I've talked to about Sarah has only positive things to say about her, and I live in a Democratic state. Even some Hilary supporters here are saying good things about Sarah Palin. I can't wait until November!

It seems as though every time the media attacks her, she only gains more sympathy and support. Thank you Liberal media, and please, please, keep up the Palin attacks. The latest polls show that Sarah is now more popular that Obama, Biden, and even her running mate John McCain. Thanks for all your help in making Sarah Palin the subject of every dinner table conversation in America.

Hello Mayor Pam Lorio:

I am writing today with strong conviction deep concern. Please ask yourself as well as the Tampa city council person’s  Why in my city our city? Why? Unfortunately racism is alive & well & Jim Crow's of the south are running rampant. I am a native Detroiter who moved to the Tampa Bay Area with my wife & children 3 years ago. I thought I was moving from the inner city to a more peaceful community for the sake of my family the move seemed right. I assumed & from first glance thought the community I moved my family to was diverse & peaceful. Then two weeks ago l was forced back to reality my commute from my peaceful community of Valrico Florida 20 minutes to northern Tampa  my commute takes me up I-75 N.I do not believe & still do not believe my eyes to the north on the south bound side of the expressway the largest confederate flag I have seen in my life. There in living color flying boldly, symbolic swaying in the wind hatred front dead & center.

Why in 2008 would the city of Tampa allow such a deep seated symbol of hatred be displayed.  ask your staff & the city council would the city or state of Florida be so quiet & unresponsive if A black panther flag, a black power flag or a nation of Islam flag fly vividly over a state hwy that stretches from Key West to the Upper Peninsula of my home state of Michigan. Would America be so quiet then? Does Tampa not respect & love it’s people of color. Mayor is this the city you want to represent? This cannot be the majority’s approval and if this flag is an indicator of our community then I chose the wrong place to relocate my family,  The people of Tampa oppose this hate filled symbol, why in 2008 does the old southern way of thinking prevail, Jim Crow will not die.

I love people of all races & have raised my children to be diverse, what do I tell them now!  I will be contacting  several media outlets & a host of others including the National Football League concerning the Super Bowl scheduled for the Tampa Bay Area to bring about change in this poor decision made by the city of Tampa, County of Hillsboro , The state  of Florida  have made & allowed to exist I went to the small piece of land Mr. Adams refers to as a Memorial for southern pride & it hurt my heart & soul so bad I began to weep. It’s not a coincidence the location just north of MLK, visible by all to see driving that local stretch of hwy, the size, the placement, the symbolism precisely planned hatred for all to see. This is a dark moment for the city of Tampa! Shame has blanketed the city. Will nooses hang on the light fixture of I-75 next?

The success of the Bush Regime's propaganda, lies, and deception with gullible and inattentive Americans since 9/11 has made it difficult for intelligent, aware people to be optimistic about the future of the United States. For almost 8 years the US media has served as Ministry of Propaganda for a war criminal regime. Americans incapable of thinking for themselves, reading between the lines, or accessing foreign media on the Internet have been brainwashed.

As the Nazi propagandist, Joseph Goebbels, said, it is easy to deceive a people. You just tell them they have been attacked and wave the flag.

It certainly worked with Americans.

The gullibility and unconcern of the American people has had many victims. There are 1.25 million dead Iraqis. There are 4 million displaced Iraqis. No one knows how many are maimed and orphaned.

Iraq is in ruins, its infrastructure destroyed by American bombs, missiles, and helicopter gunships.

We do not know the death toll in Afghanistan, but even the American puppet regime protests the repeated killings of women and children by US and NATO troops.

We don't know what the death toll would be in Iran if Darth Cheney and the neocons succeed in their plot with Israel to bomb Iran, perhaps with nuclear weapons.

What we do know is that all this murder and destruction has no justification and is evil. It is the work of evil men who have no qualms about lying and deceiving in order to kill innocent people to achieve their undeclared agenda.

That such evil people have control over the United States government and media damns the American public for eternity.

America will never recover from the shame and dishonor heaped upon her by the neoconned Bush Regime.

The success of the neocon propaganda has been so great that the opposition party has not lifted a finger to rein in the Bush Regime's criminal actions. Even Obama, who promises "change" is too intimidated by the neocon's success in brainwashing the American population to do what his supporters hoped he would do and lead us out of the shame in which the neoconned Bush Regime has imprisoned us.

This about sums up the pessimistic state in which I existed prior to the go-ahead given by the Bush Regime to its puppet in Georgia to ethnically cleanse South Ossetia of Russians in order to defuse the separatist movement. The American media, aka, the Ministry of Lies and Deceit, again accommodated the criminal Bush Regime and proclaimed "Russian invasion" to cover up the ethnic cleansing of Russians in South Ossetia by the Georgian military assault.

Only this time, the rest of the world didn't buy it. The many years of lies – 9/11, Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, al Qaeda connections, yellowcake, anthrax attack, Iranian nukes, "the United States doesn't torture," the bombings of weddings, funerals, and children's soccer games, Abu Ghraib, renditions, Guantanamo, various fabricated "terrorist plots," the determined assault on civil liberties – have taken their toll on American credibility. No one outside America any longer believes the US media or the US government.

The rest of the world reported the facts – an assault on Russian civilians by American- and Israeli-trained and -equipped Georgian troops.

The Bush Regime, overcome by hubris, expected Russia to accept this act of American hegemony. But the Russians did not, and the Georgian military was sent fleeing for its life.

The neoconned Republican response to the Russian failure to follow the script and to be intimidated by the "unipower" was so imbecilic that it shattered the brainwashing to which Americans had succumbed.

McCain declared: "In the 21st century nations don't invade other nations." Imagine the laughs Jon Stewart will get out of this on the Daily Show. In the early years of the 21st century the United States has already invaded two countries and has been beating the drums for attacking a third. President Bush, the chief invader of the 21st century, echoed McCain's claim that nations don't invade other nations.

This dissonant claim shocked even brainwashed Americans, as readers' emails reveal. If in the 21st century countries don't invade other countries, what is Bush doing in Iraq and Afghanistan, and what are the naval armadas and propaganda arrayed against Iran about?

Have two of the worst warmongers of modern times – Bush and McCain – called off the US/Israeli attack on Iran? If McCain is elected president, is he going to pull US troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan as "nations don't invade other nations," or is President Bush going to beat him to it?

We all know the answer.

The two stooges are astonished that the Americans have taught hegemony to Russians, who were previously operating, naively perhaps, on the basis of good will.

Suddenly the Western Europeans have realized that being allied with the United States is like holding a tiger by the tail. No European country wants to be hurled into war with Russia. Germany, France, and Italy must be thanking God they blocked Georgia's membership in NATO.

The Ukraine, where a sick nationalism has taken hold funded by the neocon National Endowment for Democracy, will be the next conflict between American pretensions and Russia. Russia is being taught by the neocons that freeing the constituent parts of its empire has not resulted in their independence but in their absorption into the American Empire.

Unless enough Americans can overcome their brainwashed state and the rigged Diebold voting machines, turn out the imbecilic Republicans and hold the neoconservatives accountable for their crimes against humanity, a crazed neocon US government will provoke nuclear war with Russia.

The neoconservatives represent the greatest danger ever faced by the United States and the world. Humanity has no greater enemy.

Subj: Fwd: FW: Sarah Palin

received from a good friend in New York City.  She is a Bryn Mawr graduate, and is a physician currently engaged in cancer research at Columbia University.  This is an email she received from a Bryn Mawr classmate of hers who lives in Alaska.

Because you, like me, may never have heard of Sarah Palin until today, you may find this an interesting perspective from an Alaskan resident.

Begin forwarded message:

Subject: just in from Bonnie's classmate

Dear classmates -

As an Alaskan, I am writing to give all of you some information on

Sarah Palin, Senator McCain's choice for VP. As an Alaska voter, I

know more than most of you about her and, frankly, I am horrified that

he picked her.

The most accurate description of her is red neck. Her husband works in

the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and races snow mobiles. She is a life

time member of the NRA and has worked tirelessly to allow

indiscriminate hunting of wildlife in Alaska, particularly wolves and

bears. She has spent millions of Alaska state dollars on aerial

hunting of these predators from helicopters and airplanes, dollars

that should have been spent, for example, on Alaska's failing school

system. We have the lowest rate of high school graduation in the

country. Not all of you may think aerial predator hunting is so bad,

but how anyone (other than Alaska wolf-haters, of which there are

many, most without teeth), could think this use of funds is

appropriate is beyond me. If you want to know more about the aerial

hunting travesty, let me know and I will send some links to

informative web sites.

She has been a strong supporter of increased use of fossil fuels, yet

the McCain campaign has the nerve to say she has 'green' policies. The

only thing green about Sarah Palin is her lack of experience. She has

consistently supported drilling in ANWR, use of coal-burning power

plants (as I write this, a new coal plant is being built in her home

town of Wasilla), strip mining, and almost anything else that will

unnecessarily exploit the diminishing resources of Alaska and destroy

its environment.

Prior to her one year as governor of Alaska, she was mayor of Wasilla,

a small red neck town outside Anchorage. The average maximum education

level of parents of junior high school kids in Wasilla is 10th grade.

Unfortunately, I have to go to Wasilla every week to get groceries and

other supplies, so I have continual contact with the people who put

Palin in office in the first place. I know what I'm talking about.

These people don't have a concept of the world around them or of the

serious issues facing the US. Furthermore, they don't care. So long as

they can go out and hunt their moose every fall, kill wolves and bears

and drive their snow mobiles and ATVs through every corner of the

wilderness, they're happy. I wish I were exaggerating.

Sarah Palin is currently involved in a political corruption scandal.

She fired an individual in law enforcement here because she didn't

like how he treated one of her relatives during a divorce. The man's

performance and ability weren't considered; it was a totally personal

firing and is currently under investigation. While the issue isn't

close to the scandal of Ted Steven's corruption, it shows that Palin

isn't 'squeaky clean' and causes me to think there may be more issues

that could come to light. Clearly McCain doesn't care.

When you line Palin up with Biden, the comparison would be laughable

if it weren't so serious. Sarah Palin knows nothing of economics

(admittedly a weak area for McCain), or of international affairs,

knows nothing of national government, Social Security, unemployment,

health care systems - you name it. The idea of her meeting with heads

of foreign governments around the world truly frightens me.

In an increasingly dangerous world, with the economy in shambles in

the US, Sarah Palin is uniquely UNqualified to be vice president. John

McCain is not a young man. Should something happen to him such that

the vice president had to step in, it would destroy our country and

possibly the world to have someone as inexperienced and inappropriate

as Sarah Palin. The choice of Palin is a cheap shot by McCain to try

to get Hillary supporters to vote for him. when McCain introduced her

today, Palin had the nerve to compare herself with Hillary and

Geraldine Ferraro. Sarah Palin, you are no Hillary Clinton.

To those of you who, like me, supported Hillary and were upset that she

did not get the nomination, please don't think that Sarah Palin is a

worthy substitute. If you supported Hillary, regardless of what you

think the media and the Democratic party may have done to undermine

her campaign, the person to support now is Obama, not Sarah Palin. To

those of you who are independent or undecided, don't let the choice of

Palin sway you in favor of McCain. Choosing her shows how unqualified

McCain is to be president. To those of you who are conservative, I

guess you have no choice for president. But please try to see how the

poor choice of Palin tells us a great deal about McCain's judgment.

While the political posturing inherent in the choice of Palin is

obvious, the more serious issue is the fact that the VP is, literally,

a heartbeat away from the presidency. Sarah Palin is totally and

unequivocally unqualified to be vice president, let alone president.

I know this is a lengthy and emotional email, but the stakes are high.

I thought it might help for all of you, regardless of political

affiliation, to know something about Palin from someone who has to

live with her administration in Alaska on a daily basis.

Somebody from the democratic side has to create a "Ross Perot" type to pull some of the independents thinking of shiftings the Palin and Mac.

Also, did John Mac really mean what he said when his Rep Convention speech and addressing how he stood up to union bosses? for what? to stop the working class from earning more wages, get better health care benefits from its employer??? its that kind of "crap" that makes me sick.

You don't have to stand up to union bosses(represent workers) anymore, there scared shitless because of the threat of sending jobs overseas!

Someone from the Democratic party, should start advertising carefully the words that are mistakinly used by candidates. After the repub convention speech, Johnny Mac said he would stop Pork barrel spending, so on and so forth...He didn't mention union bosses!!!Stand up union bosses and stand up for the working class. Johnny new he had made mistake saying what he said about standing up to the union bosses, because if he didn't he wouldn't have excluded from his speeches after the Rep Convention. Come on folks! stand up and notice!!

I am surprissed that Ms. Pelosi is backing the bill proposal for the so called "bailout" for Wall Street without insisting in the key word ACCOUNTABILITY. Are we continuing with the Bush policies of tolerance to crime and disregard for established laws? I think we should not elect so many liers, sorry, lawyers confortable with both sides of the law. The resposible for this economic debacle in Wall Street should and must be prosecuted.
