It is very sad when a politician can exploit a woman to gain election votes. McCain was in such a hurry to boost his votes that his staff didn't do there homework on Palin. This family has so many hidden secretes and you should of researched this womans background before now. Shame, shame, shame the GOP is now a big joke and you John McCain have made it a joke. You have no right getting upset with the Democratic party for your lack of leadership. If someone advised you to jump of a bridge wwould you follow that advise and jump? Well why did you listen to them and make this crook your running mate? Do you really have enough sense to run this country? We can't afford these type of mistakes from our commander and chief? I have been using Twitter and other Micro blogs for a long while now. As an internet enthusiast and the fiance of a Yahoo Europe employed web architect, I usually see these things from beta.

I see Twitter improving and gaining more and more users. From the technical side I see more web devs create more freelance jobs for themselves by mirco blogging their portfolios.

I see book publishers like Harper Teen, create more sensation for their products and hits to their site by using the Twitter function.

As for myself I use Twitter to stay in touch with friends I have made all over the world and also create a sensation for whatever freelance marketing music product I am pushing at the moment.

I see CNN drawing me to their site more since I started 'following' them on this service. Microblogging consultancy will be the new big commodity!

All of the speeches from all of the speakers were redundant, not really saying anything. Sarah Palin said nothing about what she brings to the table. Well, I guess because she brings nothing. She is more stupid than Mccain. What would she have been without the teleprompter. That was  a pretty sorry speech. She cannot compare herself to Obama. All she knows is moose.

Palins speech was fabricated, it was not her normal voice and she did not appear to be sincere in what she was saying and she needs mor practcing, the attacks on Obama was very degrading the was it was presented but i guess this is politics. Sarah she should have talking about herself and her credentials instead of downgrading someone else. I have heard all your analysis of both convention. But i can not understand why and how you all are missing a very

important point of this election. Great speach by both parties to choose their candidate for White house. However one party want to raise tax and other want to cut taxes. Please ask the republican that after they squander away the surpluses and increased the deficit astronomically, how are they planning to pay the tax cuts they are talking about. Also, would not the tax cuts increase the burden of deficit even higher which future generation will have to find the way to pay for it. In addition will not the higher deficit put us on mercy of economically strong country like China to dictate our policy, and curtail our strength...I hope you ask them these question and I will be interested to know what they say...Thank you

Hearing the republican party is a joke! I myself was in the Iraq war, and those who went for additonal training in becoming an officer were in a position to lead us in battle. Just because you have the high ranking of an officer doesn't sometimes mean you have all the answers.Im here to tell you that experiance didn't matter. Some of us are born with leadership abilities. Yes I agree, Obama may not have a lot of experiance. I can tell you that I can follow and understand his campaign. I fell much more secure knowing obama will make "change". I'am also tired of hearing that just because Mcain served in the military that he has all the answers for all of our problems. Look at the current president, he also served in the military and looked where it got us. More indebt, loss of jobs, foreclosures, and gas prices going up.     I have noticed a couple of innovative ways Twitter is being used(besides mine!), both came about due to Hurricane Gustav.

     First I saw @MarriottIntl on Twitter, set up a stream alerting travelers/evacuees of hotel room availability along the Gulf Coast.

    Second, I have noticed @StBernardNews set up a stream that informs residents of St. Bernard Parish (a small community outside New Orleans) news about local curfews, power availibilty, flooding, etc.

    And of course let's not forget that CNN is starting to use Twitter in new and innovative ways ;)

I have been watching,reading and listen to Republican and Democrates.  I visited Obama's and Hilary Clinton website to view his/her solutions to problems that affect the world and on topics I am passionate about and found their websites to be informative on what direction they planned to take our nation.  I did the same for Mccain and I am not certain. I further search the web for additional information to back up or discredit their claims and the jury is still out.  Because the the VP picks were resently picked I am still reseaching Biden and Palin.  I listened to Palins speech today and went online to adn.com (anchorage daliy newsin Alaska) and to Huffingtonpost.com to view info on her to see if she would sway my vote and I was amazed at what's out there.  I don't mean her personal life and meaningless reporting. I mean her decision on issues that are relating to her Governing and Mayoral practices. You can find transcripts, video coverage and news articles dating back as far as two years ago and I find it not representing what the Republican party is try to sell me on or are claiming.  There is alot of contreversial information relating to her. I am not attempting to sway the voters in anyway, I am just asking that you do the research and choose your candidate based on matters that are important to you and who would represent those interest. I am still trying to decide. Good Luck

In response to a post by Cabriogirl, I do not believe CNN is a Democratic station.  I believe if any candidate,supporter or representative states a claim on the air, it is the media job to verify the claims and see how they arrived at their findings.  I have seen them gruel the Dem. and Rep alike  on several occasions and that's how politic goes. I feel that all side should be pressure to address information that they are claiming. You can sell the american people on you word alone we need to know the facts that support their claims.

Sarah Palin ~ Her story is truly remarkable!  From hockey mom to Senator John McCain’s VP pick.  Sarah Palin described herself and those other hockey moms in America as pit bulls wearing lipstick. 

Let’s be truthful Sarah Palin is not like most moms I know and admire.  Sarah Palin, like so many men, has chosen career over family in two very distinct ways:

1)     Parents are responsible for their kids and the values taught to those kids.  So while Sarah Palin credits herself with few political accomplishments as Governor for “the Great State of Alaska” she and her husband have certainly not managed the day-to-day operations in the Palin household.  Where are the family values and moral compass the GOP members boast about?  It’ s “hot air”!  The Palin family and the VP are the best this party has to offer… Remarkable? 

2)     Sarah Palin new for months that her teenage daughter was pregnant.  Every seasoned politician has “thick skin” but few would place their own ambitions above the welfare and reputation of their child.  Sarah Palin has subjected her daughter to scrutiny by the press and America because she chose a high profile position all while knowing her teen daughters pregnancy would come to light.  On day #1 did Sarah Palin disclose the family secret to Americans?  No. 

It takes a really special parent to put “self” ahead of family.  According to the GOP Sarah Palin represents their family values and ideals of Middle America.  I can’ t recall the last time a person became excited about their teen unwed uneducated child becoming pregnant.  Most families with that mindset and that experience I look upon unfavorably.  Am I crazy? 

For a woman to compete with a man does she really need to be aggressive and tenacious?  Although I am not a Hillary supporter I admired her experience, her devotion, her wit, her (thick skin) and lastly her loyalty.  

Palin is a puppet for the GOP who understands politics is a contact sport, but the quagmire is that no woman admires a male dominating and destroying a female opponent.  Right now the GOP is doing its best to throw crap in the wind to deflect attention away from an ill prepared woman and a senior citizen candidate.  Let me be clear Senator John McCain is an “American Hero”, but maybe he is losing the sharp wit and rational thought as evident in this Sarah Palin pick.

Palin comparing herself to a Pit bull hockey mom was disgusting and she did come across as a pit bull.  I find it disgusting. She is not diplomatic, I cannot visualize her being sent to any other country to represent any part of the USA.

I would like small town america to wake-up. A barrel of oil goes from $147 to $106 dollars or approx 30% down. Yet the price of gas goes from approx $4 to $3.60 or 10% down. Therefore, big oil is making 20% more profits than they were already making. Is this the reason we should drill, drill, drill?

I don't understand why Sarah Palin is getting kudos for supporting her pregnant daughter or keeping her baby who has Down's Syndrome.  She is not in the position of many girls/women who may have to struggle with those decisions without having a supportive (financially or emotionally) family, or the pregnacy may have been the result of an abusive situation.  Many other factors facing those not as fortunate as Sarah Palin can include health risks to the mother and fetus, lack of health care, and one's ability to provide long term care. Supporters are making it sound as though cranking out babies, and keeping those with special needs is extremely unusual.  I really don't think it is all that unusual for someone in Palin's situation or, perhaps, they'd learn about birth control if they had such a demanding job and already had 4 children. 

My other concerns, among many, about Sarah Palin are her abilities to make well thought out decisions and set priorities.  She either chose to get pregnant with her 5th child while running for or while in office as governor.  Not exactly "Country First".  Didn't she know the risks of having a child with health issues (Down's Syndrome) increases at her age?  Do the couple know how to use birth control?  (Possibly something they should have discussed with their daughter.)  If they wanted another child, why didn't they adopt a special needs child(children) from someone with an unwanted pregnancy if she is so pro-life?  Had she done this, I could see giving her kudos, but I see nothing exceptional about her. 

Was she supportive of those with special needs prior to her having a child with special needs?  the disabled?  the uneducated?  the poor?  It seems selfish, and shows lack of empathy and understanding to support those facing adversity, only if you, yourself, are facing that adversity.

The abuse of power she is being investigated for in AK is also a major concern.  Haven't we had enough of that with Bush and Cheney? 

It also speaks to McCain's "maverickness", that he let the party dictate his choice.  Apparently, from reports, he wanted Lieberman.  I think that would have been a great choice to bolster his argument of reform.  I believe McCain's instincts are quite good, but, he consistently caves in to the old party cronyism.  This is most stunningly evident on the torture issue, when he caved in to Bush.  My respect for McCain diminished drastically after that one.

These, what I consider selfish, personal choices in both their lives, speak volumes about their character and intelligence to be "Executives".  Way too many poor choices.  What we need most at this time is leadership that will provide this country with informed, well-thought out strategies for BOTH the near and LONG-TERM future of out country and people.  Having experience, but poor judgment and sub-par intellect is very dangerous.  (Does this remind you of Bush?)  Whether experienced or not, we desperately need someone with extraordinary intelligence! 

Did anyone find the comments made by almost all the speakers at the Republican Convention were loaded with fallacies?  What does "Country First" mean, because I can't figure out what or who they are talking about?  Oil drilling is country 1st?

Since watching both conventions I've changed my support from leaning towards McCain to strongly supporting Obama.  Obama has by far the greater vision and intellect required to take this country, ON BEHALF OF ALL THE PEOPLE, into the future.

Sarah Palin ~ A local anchorage CBS News affiliate reported on the Palin Trooper-Gate Scandal; an Abuse of Power probe.  Governor Palin is accused of firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan because he refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law Trooper Mike Wooten.  This matter is now under investigation by a state ethics board. 

At first, Governor Palin denied any wrongdoing and insisted that neither she nor any of her staff contacted, coerced or pressured then Commissioner Walt Monegan to take action against her ex-brother-in-law; a state trooper. 

Once audio recordings were made public of Palin’s administration placing pressure on Commissioner Wooten Governor Sarah Palin then recanted earlier statements.  It is clear and unequivocal that something occurred and we all need to await the findings.

This is just another reason why concerned Americans have questioned Governor Palin’s experience and veracity.  Undoubtedly Senator McCain’s selection process is going to be scrutinized too.  Not an attack, just a concerned patriot!

WOW! What a breath of fresh air, Sarah blows Obama away! I have NEVER been so excited about a Vice-Presidential candidate. She will be an excellent Vice-President and a GREAT President in 2016 when she is elected President. Nearly everyone I've talked to about Sarah has only positive things to say about her, and I live in a Democratic state. Even some Hilary supporters here are saying good things about Sarah Palin. I can't wait until November!

It seems as though every time the media attacks her, she only gains more sympathy and support. Thank you Liberal media, and please, please, keep up the Palin attacks. The latest polls show that Sarah is now more popular that Obama, Biden, and even her running mate John McCain. I am disabled middle class multi-cultural and now, EX-republican female I was taught many years ago by some of the most wonderful strong and powerful Attorneys, now judges, that when you are seeking truth and the best way to go or, the leader to choose for your Country, you listen to both sides and then remove the drama, the bull, and grandstanding and strip each person to until they become transparent.  The best starting point is simple.  The first impressions; when this all first started both presidential candidates were in the raw.  I noticed that Barack stayed steady and knew when to shut up listen in order for him to learn more.  McCain always talked about his suffering and what he did for our country in the past and I am sure we all appreciate that.  At least he was able to come home and tell his story.  In this current war, 1000’s will never be able to.  Then I noticed he started sounding just like we are going to have another 4-8 years of the same incompetent behavior running our country currently.   Not only for me, but for my children and grandchildren.  As I would briefly tune in every few days I noticed that McCain started sounding now more like Barak instead of himself.  I question myself.  Who is the Leader and who is the follower.   When McCain took to using the saying "CHANGE" in his party like Barak started his campaign originally, I knew that it is more about winning not more about what he was going to do after he won.  Our leader whoever it will be needs to be able to Multi-task on a massive scale at all times and take the pressure with grace, honor, and respect.  With all that will fall on our next president, you can safely bet health issues will become an issue.  I knew that when Sara Palain became McCain's running mate and in one of the CNN quick shots when she was asked what she would do if asked.  Palain said giggling oh my I don't even know what a VP does and proceeded to state that there are way more qualified people then she to assume the position of VP .  Palain stated she would not even know where to start.  THAT IS A WARNING SIGN.  This is what I mean by seeing a person in their rawest form.  Their true form and everything after that will be fake, flawed, and eventually failing just like the last 8 years.  Obviously win you step foot into that white house you better have all aspects of everything on queue.  Not just getting a crash course.

Now, as far as this 700 Billion dollar bailout; how on God’s Green Earth can anyone not suffer because of the incompetence of all heads?  Because of banks and their slick practices, they have contributed to more, credit fraud for consumers, etc, but great money for them while the little person (middle class) struggles and suffers.  Now they want to use the little person’s money to pay for their screw ups.  I SAY A PROFOUND NO.  I had nothing to do with it I should not have to suffer the consequences nor should any other American.  Greed got them into it and they spent and spent some more, when the little person spends beyond their means, the little person has to suffer the consequences.  I think that the all the positions that are being debated over are things that are proposals to save the GREEDY and Not the NEEDY.  God forbid the head honchos would then have to live like everyone else.  If the Government wants to bail out bad judgment; by people who knew better and just got Greedy, then why not bail out the middle class of some of their debt too i.e. credit cards, home loans, auto loans.  That would give us more money to spend into the economy right?  Let someone get into office to build everything back up from start.  Lets’ face it sometimes you just have to start over when you screwed up so badly.

I'm very upset of how the GOP canidates and their campaign are using this word.  They have used this word, and communism because they don't wamt to use the N word and that greatly disapoint me as a black person cause their campaign would go this far to take it to that level. I'm not a bias person against McCain and Palin ticket but I and everybody else can read between the lines.  I respect everybody as one man and one woman because in God eyes we are one and nothing else.I would want to be a socialist because you see where capitalism has raken us and it has led to economy on the rocks where we're almost been knocked off.  I feeling the tax plan that Barack Obama has explained because I feel like if you make the money you should be more patriotic to paying more taxes to improve the economy if you make over $250,000.00 as a family or 200,000.00 if you are single. I put it like this if you making over 20 million dollars in gross and you can't afford to give up over one or two million dollars which I'm living on less then forty thousand dollars a year with 2 kids and 2 more on the way in the military then you have a problem and you need help. The problem with the McCain and Palin ticket started before Palin even got on the ticket and that was he had a whole lot of quitters in the primary which just handed him that victory and Giovani pls stop talking because I put it like this you had a chance to run for President but you quit and now you known as a quitter. Mrs. Zoland, Canidate McCain has not came up with ab economic plan yet whuch leaves standing behind President Bush one again. All he talks about is spreading the wealth why is that because all he wants to keep doing is keep the wealthy-wealthier and poor-poor.  Beacause if het cuts taxes across the board then those jobs that Obama is going to tax higher, their going to pick up and keep going across seas where they can keep paying these foreigner five dollars and no bennefits to do work and make their pockets fatter.  The free trade is why we are in this mess in the first place. So, why your pockets are still getting fatter. I feel like you really don't care about the middle class that are losing their jobs and homes because you are already set and don't have to worry. This is for those McCain supporters if you don't want the wealth spreaded around to be in your pockets then give me your half because I want some of that wealth that those wealthy people and businesses have been getting for the last 8 years.  Beacause when you all was spending they were receiving and they weren't complaining at all when the economic crisis started because as long as you were spending they were getting richer while you were getting poorer. For those that don't know who they want to vote for, just close your eyes and just listen to canidate as they talk on these shows and just make your best judgement on the Canidate that assures you that everything will get better in the economy, in the wars, and energy.

Kucinich Introduces Impeachment Articles Against Cheney

REP. DENNIS J. KUCINICH, D-OHIO: Thank you very much for being here.

We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that, among these, are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the government; and, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it.

These words from the Declaration of Independence are instructive at this moment. Because not only whenever any form of government, but whenever any government official becomes destructive of the founding purposes, that official or those officials must be held accountable.

Because I believe the vice president's conduct of office has been destructive to the founding purposes of our nation. Today, I have introduced House Resolution 333, Articles of Impeachment Relating to Vice President Richard B. Cheney. I do so in defense of the rights of the American people to have a government that is honest and peaceful.

It became obvious to me that this vice president, who was a driving force for taking the United States into a war against Iraq under false pretenses, is once again rattling the sabers of war against Iran with the same intent to drive America into another war, again based on false pretenses.

Let me cite from the articles of impeachment that were introduced this afternoon, Article I, that Richard Cheney had purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and the Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States armed forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security.

That despite all evidence to the contrary, the vice president actively and systematically sought to deceive the citizens and the Congress of the United States about an alleged threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

That preceding the March 2003 invasion of Iraq, the vice president was fully informed that no legitimate evidence existed of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The vice president pressured the intelligence community to change their findings to enable the deception of the citizens and the Congress of the United States.

That in this the vice president subverted the national security interests of the United States by setting the stage for the loss of more than 3,300 United States service members and the loss of 650,000 Iraqi citizens since the United States invasion; the loss of approximately $500 billion in war costs, which has increased our federal debt; the loss of military readiness within the United States armed services, through an overextension and lack of training and lack of equipment; and the loss of United States credibility in the world affairs and decades of likely blowback created by the invasion of Iraq.

That with respect to Article II, that Richard Cheney manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and the Congress of the United States about an alleged relationship between Iraq and Al Qaida in order to justify the use of United States armed forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security.

And that, despite all evidence to the contrary, the vice president actively and systematically sought to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States about an alleged relationship between Iraq and Al Qaida.

That preceding to the March 2003 invasion of Iraq, the vice president was fully informed that no credible evidence existed of a working relationship between Iraq and Al Qaida, a fact articulated in several official documents.

With respect to Article III, that in his conduct while vice president of the United States, Richard Cheney openly threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran, absent any real threat to the United States, and has done so with the United States's proven capability to carry out such threats, thus undermining the national security interests of the United States.

That despite no evidence that Iran has the intention or the capability of attacking the United States, and despite the turmoil created by the United States's invasion of Iraq, the vice president has openly threatened aggression against Iran.

Furthermore, I point out in the articles that Article VI of the United States Constitution states, and I quote, "This Constitution and the laws of the United States shall be made in pursuance thereof and all treaties made or which shall be made under the authority of the United States shall be the supreme law of the land. Any provision of an international treaty ratified by the United States becomes the law of the United States."

The United States is signatory to the U.N. Charter, a treaty among the nations of the world. Article II, Section 4 of the United Nations Charter states, and I quote, "All members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations."

The articles conclude by pointing out that the vice president's deception upon the citizens and the Congress of the United States that enabled the failed United States invasion of Iraq forcibly altered the rules of diplomacy so that the vice president recent belligerent actions toward Iran are destabilizing and counterproductive to the national security of the United States of America.

These articles of impeachment are not brought forth lightly. I've carefully weighed the options available to members of Congress and found this path the path that is the most important to take.

The justifications used to lead our nation to war have unquestionably been disproved. Brave soldiers and innocent civilians have lost their lives in a war the United States should never have initiated. The weight of the lies used to lead us into war has grown heavier with each death. Now is the time for Congress to examine the actions that led us into this war, just as we must work to bring the troops home. This resolution is a very serious matter, and I will urge the Committee on Judiciary to investigate and carefully consider this resolution.

At this time, I'm happy to take any of your questions.

QUESTION: Congressman, at this point do you have any other -- any fellow members support this?

KUCINICH: At this very moment, the resolution is being transmitted to members of Congress. Because this resolution is so weighty in its import, it's going to be important for members of Congress to have sufficient time to study the articles. This is unlike any other type of legislation or resolution. This is not something that you can ask anyone to make a snap judgment on. It took me a while to come to this point. And I would expect that members of Congress, given the opportunity to review these articles, will be able to come to a conclusion consistent with their own concerns and the concerns of their constituents.

QUESTION: But at this point, you stand alone, at this point?

KUCINICH: At this point, I believe that I stand with millions of Americans who have expressed concern through their state legislatures, through petitions to Congress, through contact with their members of Congress, that something has to be done to reclaim our country's goodness, to reclaim a government which the American people want to be honest, want to be just.

And so I do not stand alone. I have multitudes of people backing this.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE) Chairman Conyers to look at this?

KUCINICH: I will discuss this with Chairman Conyers, now that this has been introduced, and I will ask for his consideration. And I will communicate this to all members of the House and ask them to give it the kind of thoughtful consideration that it deserves.

KUCINICH: I might point out that -- that when you read the annotations here, you will see that everything that has been said in these articles has been carefully documented. In fact, I would imagine that some of you have even reported some of the statements, although perhaps the statements have not been challenged in this way until now.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE)

KUCINICH: The question relates to why I'm bringing the articles of impeachment against Mr. Cheney, and not Mr. Bush. Is that it?

QUESTION: Why solely Mr. Cheney?

KUCINICH: Well, there's a practical reason here. And the practical reason is -- first of all, I want to say that each and every charge against Mr. Cheney relates to his conduct or misconduct in office.

Now, with respect to the president. I think that it's very important that we start with Mr. Cheney. Because if we were to start with the president and pursue articles of impeachment, Mr. Cheney would then become president.

It's significant and responsible to start in this way, because if the same charges would relate to the president as relate to the vice president, you would then have to go through the constitutional agony of impeaching two presidents consecutively.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE)

KUCINICH: Well, actually -- I'll wait until that truck goes by here.

Let me tell you the difference. The difference today is that this vice president is actively encouraging aggression against Iran. It is urgent that Congress take steps to check the abuse of power. And that's what this impeachment resolution will do.

KUCINICH: There is no comparison whatsoever -- in any way, shape or manner -- between these articles of impeachment and the articles of impeachment which were presented to the House of Representatives in 1999.

In fact, these articles of impeachment are deeply researched, will stand up in a discussion in the House and in the Senate. And I believe that they are -- that they're imperative to bring forth right now because the threat of war against Iran is very real.

And this vice president cannot be permitted to continue to violate both the U.S. Constitution and the U.N. Charter.

QUESTION: Congressman, you're running for president. Are you hoping to get the others (OFF-MIKE)?

KUCINICH: Each person has to -- each person will have to make his or her own decision.

This goes beyond partisan terms. This is being done to defend our constitutional system of government. This is being done so that all those of us who took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States can understand that this impeachment is one valid way in furtherance of the defense of our Constitution.

I don't see this as being distant from anyone, in any capacity in our government. Everyone must reflect on this.

Years from now, people will ask, "Why didn't the United States government respond when they saw this threat to our democracy? Why didn't people inside the government respond?" if this doesn't move forward.

And so this really isn't so much, I might add, about the vice president as it is about who we are as a people. What is it that we stand for? What kind of government do the people of the United States expect and deserve?

KUCINICH: It's not appropriate for the government to lie to people. It is wrong for government officials -- you know, the vice president, in this case -- to take this nation into war based on lies.

And so, again, this becomes a question of who we are as a people. And so this resolution 333, articles of impeachment against the vice president, will let future generations know that no one is above the law of this country and that Congresses have the specific responsibility to provide a check to administrative abuse of power. That's the way the framers set this government up.

QUESTION: Congressman, Speaker Pelosi has said on more than one occasion she's not interested in impeachment.

Have you had conversations with her on this, or some exchange, in your mind...

KUCINICH: No, I have not discussed this with Speaker Pelosi.

I want to stress that this is not a partisan action at all. I have not confided in anyone in the leadership of my party, because I take this action beyond partisanship, beyond party, as an obligation and commitment to my nation and my loyalty to America and my willingness to say, "Stop the lies. Stop the lying. Stop the dying that's occurring in Iraq over lies."

It's imperative that America stand for the truth. It said in the Bible, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." Well, let then these articles of impeachment help set our nation free from the lies that have enveloped our governmental process, the lies that are trapping us still in a war in Iraq, the lies that could take us into a war against Iran.

This is about the truth.

QUESTION: Congressman, it's been said by some pundits that you're just introducing these articles to gain publicity for your presidential campaign.

What do you make of those allegations? And do you think this is going to help you out in your race for the presidency?

KUCINICH: These articles are about the conduct of the vice president of the United States, that he deceived the people of the United States to take this country into a war, that he continues to exhibit a pattern of conduct that could take this country into another war based on false pretenses. That's what this is about.

KUCINICH: And I believe that the people of this country are demanding that someone stand up and anyone has been free to do this. Anyone in the House of Representatives could take similar action if they so choose, or could take action against the vice president or the president.

QUESTION: Pelosi says it's not going anywhere.

(CROSSTALK)

KUCINICH: Have you talked to her today?

QUESTION: Yes, I did.

KUCINICH: Then I would say I have not talked to her. And as much as I admire the speaker, as much as I voted to support her, I feel that it's my obligation as a member of Congress to introduce these articles of impeachment. And I believe the American people will be the final arbiters as to whether or not these articles should go forward.

QUESTION: Just to follow up, when you say the vice president led us into war, wouldn't that be President Bush? Isn't Cheney working for Bush? (inaudible)

KUCINICH: Well, let's go into Article I. "Mr. Cheney: 'We know they have biological and chemical weapons.'" Said this in a press conference on March 17th, 2002. "We know they're pursuing nuclear weapons." He said this in a press briefing on March 19th, 2002. "He is pursuing, activity pursuing nuclear weapons at this time." He said this on "CNN Late Edition," March 24th. "We know he's got chemical and biological, and we know he's working on nuclear."

"Meet the Press," May 19th: "But we know Saddam has resumed his efforts to acquire nuclear weapons." "There is no doubt he's amassing them against our friends, against our allies and against us." August 26th, 2002.

On and on and on. "He has in fact activity and aggressively seeking to acquire nuclear weapons." September 8th, 2002, "Meet the Press."

"He has in fact reconstituted nuclear weapons." March 16th, "Meet the Press."

This vice president was a driving force in trying to create the circumstances to justify the United States's attack against Iran. And he not only deceived the people of the United States, and the Congress of the United States, he deceived the American media.

KUCINICH: And so these articles are tightly focused on the conduct of the vice president. And to the extent that they may reflect in some way on the conduct of the president of the United States, is another matter for another day.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE)

KUCINICH: I think the record is very clear, that this vice president used his conduct of office to promote a war and Article I and Article II are very clear that he conducted himself in such a way as to use the power of his office to promote that war.

And so this relates to the vice president. And I think I answered the question earlier about why the vice president and not the president.

QUESTION: Do you have anyone you would identify as a replacement? If Vice President Cheney were impeached, it would have to be voted on the House and the Senate for confirmation.

KUCINICH: That would be up to President Bush.
