I stayed in a Hotel. It lost electricity and water. The sandwiches were double priced, but how else were they to make money. Everything now is O.K. The only ones left are the ones who are trying to get things free from the state. Everyone i talk to say they are so happy the way the state saved everyones life. Some say they tried to refuse water food, gas and money, but the officials told them to go ahead and take it, that they had plenty and would be reinburse by the state. Houston no longer needs anything, please go back home, your just congesting our streets. Houston now has all the thugs, prostitutes and crimminals that resided on the coast. In my neighborhood the Hookers and pan handerlers are lined up on the curb. They know the Police don't have time to arrest them. Thank God for the curfew. Although there are too many of them for the Police to do anything.

sorry for all your losses to your properties there. I have a question...Why would any city council in their right mind allow anyone to build homes so close to the sea? I mean it is insane...Very poor planning...and I bet you pay huge taxes there too....

What about our seniors that were to scared to leave due to all the traffic, the medications they would have to pack and the oxygen tanks used in travel..My mom, step dad and uncle all survived the great depression, but I don't know how long my uncle can go without a generator for oxygen.  They live in Shepherd Tx.  I phone them alot, but cannot provide anything but morral support from Kansas.  If anyone can help please call them at 936-628-6846 please, and thank you.

I saw a news bleep that said that Bush offered $5million to Cuba to help with hurricane relief. It was refused.  Boy, he sure was fast in making that offer. I bet if he made the same offer to the victims of Gustav and Ike, it would be put to good use.  And by the way, Bush is not a Texan..he wasn't born there. gilldreams, I bet you live in a place where there is no water around. What about the people in Florida, California, and all along the coast of all the states??? I don't live there, but when I lived in Houston, we went to the beach all the time. We could not afford a house there, but used the beaches for years. I don't understand why people build their houses in dangerous areas.  They're going to be wiped out.  Insurance companies are going to have to pay, which means they can't.  Which means our government will try to bail them out.  Which means taxpayers and investors lose.

It's mind boggling to look at the images of devastation and to think they were once beautiful.

Another hurricane could be heading through, and the evacuation would be the same. Thats just the way we are. Some look at this area and say, what were they thinking.One bullet in the gun and they said, NAW! May they all be in the Lord's hand now. The real estate hyenas are waiting along the sidelines.

My heart goes out to all of those who have lost so much because of this hurricane.  This has truly been a tragedy for them.  I know that it was not easy to pick up and evacuate the area, not knowing what or if you would have anything to come back to.  My prayers are with all of you at this time.

The one thing that does disturb me though is the fact that some decided to stay and "ride out the storm".  To my understanding this was a mandatory evacuation with the message that you would face "certain death".  What part of that did those that stayed not get?  Now emergency crews are having to go in and "rescue" people that made the choice to stay!!  That really angers me!!  I feel that if they have to be rescued then they should get a bill and be charged for the service.  These responders are putting themselves in danger because others chose to ignore the warning...there is no tragedy in stupidity!  I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who has ignored instructions that can save their life.

I think it is stupid for people to live that close to an ocean and not expect to be swept away.  People need to consider what they are doing even when they do have money and can afford it.  Beleive me, those builders knew, but they also knew that there are people out there that will buy anything.  I watch these housing construction sites throw up cookie cutter houses faster than you can flip a pancake.  They look so identical, it takes at least 3 days to figure out which one is yours.  Then I see them take two years to build one brick house. People better get smart and start thinking before you buy.  Don't let that beautiful display model fool you because your furniture won't look nothing like that.
