Ahead of the curve

It seems everyone's talking about 'Joe the Plumber,' today, following the final presidential debate between Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama. His name was mentioned some two dozen times by the candidates when discussing their economic polices. Today, Joe is the topic of countless blog posts, water cooler conversations and news reports. But well before he hit the national spotlight, our iReporters were already talking about him. iReporter VotingFemale posted a story yesterday morning about Joe. It was among Wednesday's newsiest stories, thanks in part to the 500-plus comments it received . And frequent contributor kbrown0419 sent in an impassioned video about Joe's encounter with Obama . We're excited to see that iReporters are ahead of the curve when it comes to news. So, tell us, what's the next big story?

I was curious since Hussein Obama would be considered the first African American elected president at 6.25% African American; does that make me a Mexican American at 12.5%? Does that mean that I get to check the box Mexican American for job apps or credit apps? Does this mean that I will get special aid or even grants for being part of a minority? I'm sick of the media calling him African American. The man is and would be if elected, the first Arab-American president. How does this sound, “And we welcome to the stage our 44th President of the United States of America, Barak Hussein Obama," sorry it just doesn't sit right with me. According to Muslim law or Koran whatever they call it, if a Muslim converts to Christianity he is to be put to death. So, if Hussein Obama was Muslim and converted to Christianity and he really is a practicing Christian then how come the leader of Hamas and the leader of Iran support Obama and have openly said they hope he gets elected. Why are Muslims supporting Obama by the thousands??? Doesn't it all seem a bit weird?

Let me ask you something.  I'm considered middle class maybe even poverty by some standards.  I don't claim to be a genius when it comes to economics, but I think it is common sense that under Hussein Obama's tax plan we will quickly experience a depression.  If you tax business making more than 250K they will take those business's elsewhere and will be forced to raise prices to cover cost ect.. the list goes on.  This really is a no brainer.  You democrats only care about your pocket book, but you are so ignorant and short sighted you don't even see the consequences of electing someone like Obama.  Electing Obama would be committing suicide for America.

Why would we elect someone who has so many question marks about his religion, background and just who he is and what he stands for? At least with McCain you know who he is and what he stands for. When in the history of America have we ever had to question whether he was a Muslim, terrorist ect... the list goes on. Sorry, but if I have to raise those types of questions about a candidate I'm going to have to say NO thank you. This is not racist by any means. If Colin Powell was running for president he would have my vote. But, I shouldn't be comparing a true African American to a true Arab American. Just check the facts if you’re confused about that last part.

If my geography is correct and we can all agree that Senator Obama's father was from Kenya then that would make him African-American since Kenya is still in Africa.  I believe that Truthin08 is confusing Arabs with Muslims. One being more a geographical identification and the other a religion. The other fact is that Senator Obama was raised in a white christian family in Kansas.  I fail to see any real muslim or arab connection at all. The other question I have is why does someone who is seeking truth in 08 still believe that all arabs or muslims are a problem. Maybe some non-partisan research would help him discover the truth.

I love it when people like tdd1 speak first with out researching the facts.  Obama is 50% white, 43.75% Arab American and 6.25% African American.  If a 100% white person is born in Kenya does that make him African American???  I guess your are ignorant and you believe the American version of Islam and don't have a grasp on the world view of Islam.  That's funny, but I won't let the watered down verson of Islam that we see here in American pull the wool over my eyes.  I hope you will research and learn the truth.

To "Truthin08" Don't kid yourself! If Colin Powell was running for President and the right wing radio surrogates put out false, negative rumors against him, you would accept them and not support Powell. Everything that you mention against Obama has been proven false but they are what you've bought into. If Obama's responses don't confirm the negative spin, then he's labeled as a liar.Through the process of simple deduction, it comes down to race because the other factors just don't hold water. Even though Obama detailed the Ayers matter, McCain immediately insisted on perpetuating lies,i.e. "Your political career was launched in his living room". That kind of talk is for people like you who need distortion and exaggeration and choose not to accept that you are simply wrong and bigoted in considerations about Barack Obama.

Mc Cain spoke of Obama supporting the biggest VOTER FRAUD ever...

Last night at the third and final debate McCain referenced Akorn as being the biggest voter fraud ever and is supported by Barak Obama. Once again McCain is mistaken; the biggest voter fraud ever was George W. Bush stealing his way into office in 2000.

Hmn, so at this point, only a day later, we have found out that Joe The Plumber isn't just ANY plumber, but a close relative of Robert Wurzelbacher, who is CHARLES KEATING'S son in law. Coincidence? I think not.

http://wizbangblue.com/2008/10/16/breaking-news-joe-the-plumber-is-a-keating-relative.php

I think that this fact should disqualify and negate any thing spoken about him in any context. He was a McCain plant. It's DISGUSTING!

You guys need to confirm this and broadcast it every five minutes so that everyone knows what a liar and devious jerk McCain is.

I'm an interested Canadian neighbor.  I am hopeful that Obama is your next president.  Over the last 8 years, America has had a tremendous loss of respect and admiration as a country.  America needs a thoughtful, intelligent and caring president now more than ever.

Some of the blog comments I read simply stun me.  The so-called melting pot where everyone is supposed to be considered "just" American seems to have disappeared.  If one is working on behalf of the American people, performing his or her duties within American laws and doing what he or she believes is to the benefit of the American public, what other possible credentials are required to be "just" an American?

I say vote for the American, Obama.

Hey Truthin08 where are you getting this from? Is that your only issue with Senator Obama?  Let's just say you can't see his skin color or his heritage, what are you really afraid of?  If you say that your best man is a black man then I can infer that you know his heritage and are okay with that.  So by saying this you must have another issue with the man himself.  His integrity, or maybe you fear what you don't know or understand.  This is a common fear and you can stand up to it.  Just ask your black friend how he feels about you putting all black people in the same category.  Don't you think he would be offended that you had to single him out as a black friend and not just saying he's my friend.  And that's what we are all saying about a man running for the highest office.  Let's put ourselves above all the hate of color race and religion and consider what they will really do for all of us.  After all you will agree that this is the best nation in the world, but it is made up of all the nations in the world, remember?  We were all immigrants once.

Wow, you really don't get it do you.  I find it so interesting when people call me a bigot or racist and they know nothing about me.  I don’t care whether the guy is black, mexican, white or asian that is not the point.  I’m sorry, but I have to completely disagree with you about whether or not religion is important.  If you knew anything about the Islamic religion you would know that the American muslims are a watered down version of the real deal. 82% of Americans call themselves Christians. The word Christian means “little Christ” to be Christ like.   If that were true the US would be totally different.  The reason the number is so high is because they are Christians “by name only.”    They are not the real deal.  The only reason we don’t have extremism practiced by the muslims here in America is because they wouldn’t be able to get away with it.  Oh, but that day may soon come sooner than you think.

One last thing, if you are going to talk about ignorance please don’t use Adolph Hitler as your example of an extreme Christian.  It doesn’t get any more ignorant than that.

The truth is, your living in fear of what is politically correct and what isn't.  According to the the statitics at 12.5% I am more Mexican American than Obama is African American.  Would you please get off of the race thing, it is absurd.  I am the farthest thing from racist there is.  Once again you would have to know me to know that and last time I checked you don't know me!And for your info my friend who is "black" doesn't give a rip if I refer to him by his skin color because we don't live in that FEAR oohh you called him BLACK.  Also, my friend is the one who told me about Obama's percentages. My point being if Obama is going to be referred to us by the media as the first African American president, then I want to be referred to as a Mexican American.  CALL IT WHAT IT IS, NOT WHAT IT'S NOT!

1. You probably think we should appease the terrorist and try to negotiate with them.

2. You probably think we should not listen in on terrorist communications.

3. You probably think we should not interrogate terrorist to uncover information to keep our country safe.

4. You probably side with the ACLU when it comes to giving terrorist rights under our constitution.

5. You probably think Islam if a friendly religion when it clear states that an infidel unless converted to Islam should be killed.

6. You probably think the bombing of the twin towers was all a conspiracy theory that Bush was behind.

7. You probably think that we should fold up shop in IRAQ tuck our tails between or legs and come home right now and turn IRAQ back over to the terrorist.

Let's see should I continue????

I have many friends in the States and have enjoyed travelling in your country many times.  I have confidence that THIS time, Americans will make the only sensible choice for president.  What a great opportunity you have at this point to make real improvements possible.

The So-Called Change of Paradigm

Yesterday night, late night in Portugal – about 3.00 AM –I went myself to bed with this feeling of bitterness as I watched the CNN polls’ results for the third and last of the Presidential debates.

A feeling of bitterness because if by one hand the general opinion regarding Senator McCain was that he managed to come up as a real fighter and with solid ideas how to save economy and financial markets, by the other hand the majority of analysts also insisted to point out that Mr. Obama stood still on his proposals running only to maintain number one position.

However, in my opinion there are here some misconceptions only conceived to somehow force a certain result and which I’ll try to show briefly in two of the most important subjects that I found on this debate.

First, nobody cared much to hear for real how Mr. Obama will solve the sub-prime crisis, only insisting on tax raises for after all not so big companies, and on unexplained line-by-line review of the Federal Budget. By his side, Senator John McCain showed a plan, continuing something that is about to get some solid results in the next few weeks and which can not be considered only as a “good first step” (Sen. Obama).

Plus, no one gave much of importance to the fact that Senator Obama couldn’t explain why his tax policy will severe that income of so many middle and small businesses’ owners.

As I could understand, the $250 000 barrier, above which there will be a tax increase does not attend to those situation of so many Americans who own small businesses but are no different from common employees. So, I really can’t see a much of a change here, as the only thing Mr. Obama will do is to put large weight on the Federal Income making those small entrepreneurs thinner.

Surely this is not a change in need, this is nothing more than some populist idea which will cause great damage to self initiative and wealth making process.

To demand a little bit more fairness from the corporate giants could be achieved with some other measures, specifically designed to them – job creation commitments, public contracts with a fixed minimum salary to their workers, etc. -, not this way.

But acting like this makes really one wonder “why raise taxes? Why take the money from Joe the Plumber?” – even when Joe the Plumber can get better medical insurances to his workers, raise their salaries, increase productivity, admit more workers and one day build a strong company which can give the chance to hundreds or even thousand of people to buy a house without any credit at all?

On what matters to the environmental issue, on the other hand, I could see Senator McCain explaining in a more realistic way the means and the goals which are urging to come up. All the measures proposed by the Republican Candidate can be achieved in the short term, instead of remaining in some utopian plan. If America can right now start drilling, building nuclear plants and taking advantage of winds and tides, why someone still says “we’ll look into it”?

All debate considered I must have to say that those and other democrat proposals are truly away from what can be called the American Way.

And promoting Excellency based on Public Sector initiative rather on Private is something that works better in my country – Portugal - than in the USA. Therefore, the results can be demolishing. And one just needs to see where we stand and where America or Great Britain or even Ireland stand so far, apart for the present crisis.

And that’s the bottom line – while Senator Obama is a man full of utopian dreams, setting goals in a distant future, over-conscious about America’s difficulties – almost unacceptably self-pitying – John McCain is the man who stands up and is ready to pull up his shirt sleeves and get the job down, right here, right now – with a true optimistic view, because based on realistic views.

Maybe the change which all mankind needs has got more to do with Experience than with undefined utopia - the true way for a change of Paradigm.

Maybe we should keep continuously pointing out the middle name of the half alive republican candidate, John Sidney McCain III.  Sidney, now that's a name Americans can believe in.

Enough of the Joe stories already!I hate election season anymore, simpley for the fact that its become such a circus. Our country is in such bad shape and instead of the media and people of this country asking the real questions we get caught up in all the hype thats only purpose is to keep us away from the facts.I have seen Obama backers try to use race as a means to subdue votes.I've seen a nations heroe mocked and lied about in such ways that you should all be ashamed.Oh you know the one about him being brainwashed.I hate how the media leads public opinion by lies and deceit. Lets talk about the facts of our country and lets find out the facts that so many are trying so hard to keep out of the news shall we. It is proven(PROVEN THAT IS)about Obama's relationship with Acorn.Yet he stood in the debate and lied about it. His relationship with known thugs is also true. But noone wants to hear that so they bury the story with (what about Joe nonsense).

I would like to know more about Obamas history. I would like for him to produce his birth certificate if it isn't to much to ask from someone running for The President of The United States.I would like to know more about his religion.

It is hard for me to understand how you could question a man like McCains history such as being an American Vet., former pow and years of serving his Country and People without asking some very simple questions about Obama.Don't you think we should know these things before we elect him as our President.

I have seen McCain get blasted for raising such questions and more, such as Senator Obama's voting record in the Senate. Shouldn't you know how he voted on the issues that have disabled our Economy? Taken our jobs and robbed our pockets of income when the only thing that hasn't gone up in the last 10 years is wages.

Do you realize that the American worker has giving up his benefits, raises, Insurance, jobs, and any chance for a descent retirement. Its funny how the Bush Administration has taken all the blame for policies that President Clinton put into place. You know like out-sourcing our jobs, Freddy, and Franny. Let big coorperations have no loyality to the employees that make them their millions and billions.Ever hear of Emron and WorldCom.

These people have sold out their own people, country, and enviroment for the all mighty dollar. Or is Yen more appropriate. And all I here about is he is a good speaker, He weathered the storm well. He avoided in getting caught up in the facts. He dances around the subject well but hey, he sure looked good doing it. At least McCain will talk about the facts.

We have gotten so caught up in tv,video games, computer surfing, I-pods, and texting that we don't pay attention to what is really going on in this country. Then we expect the Media to keep us updated on what we should know(BIG MISTAKE). Don't believe me? Then tell me how we just got stuck with a bill for 800 Billion dollars for big money greed and nothing in these organizations was even changed.Yes, thats right 800 not 700 because of all the trash added to it by the Dems for their special interest before they would vote it in to save our economy.

And don't even get me started about all the lives we have given up fighting communism and socialism throughout our nations history. You have been blinded by smooth talk and flasy lights and sounds. You have drank the cool-aide of what they want you to think. You have fallen asleep at the wheel and expected a stranger to keep you on the road and safe.

Its time to wake up America, Its time to take an interest and think for yourselves. Its time to question authority and hold it responsible for its actions. Its time to save our children and grand-childrens future. Its time to take our country back and restore her to the beacon that it once was to the world. Its time to tell Obama ther is no way in he-- you are gonna ruin this great nation.

Or just sit down and shut up and get what you have comong!!!

The largest BRIBERY, CONSPIRACY, and UNJUST ENRICHMENT SCAM the World will ever see. Martha Stewart is to ENRON as ENRON is to the BAIL OUT . With no end in sight, More and more bribe money will be needed as the Conspiricy be comes bigger. This is not B.S. but fact. . Americans hell every person on earth with a 3rd grade education know The Bail Out is $700B dollar bribe to cover up corruption and unjust enrichment.*

**LOOK AMERICA Congress andCEO's $700B bail out with not one word of stopping the leaks or How this happen

Facts from the criminals mouths on TV which they state there is much blame to go around. That is called a conspiracy. Look it up. Proven by Fact.*

***Bribery has been stated by many, even congress themself Looked it up. Here I did it for you

**Black's Law Dictionary as the offering, giving, receiving, or soliciting of any item of value to influence the actions of an official or other person in discharge of a public or legal duty.

*No Buts, ors, ands, ifs, maybe, about it. Bribery Proven by Fact

*Knowledge is immaterial under the law of unjust enrichment

**Wed, 4 Jan 2006 17:23:00 -0500

**Re: Unjustly enriched executive

**"Former HealthSouth Corp. chief executive officer Richard Scrushy has been

**ordered by a judge to repay his former company more than $47.8 million in

**bonuses, according to published reports. ... Judge Allwin E. Horn III of

**Jefferson County Circuit Court in Birmingham, who made the ruling as part of

**a summary judgment in a shareholder lawsuit, determined that Scrushy is not

**entitled to the payments whether or not he participated in the fraud or knew

*about the scheme."

***"While the company initially reported profits during the period, Horn wrote,

**HealthSouth really lost money, making Scrushy and other executives

*ineligible for any bonuses."

***'Knowledge is immaterial under the law of unjust enrichment,' the judge

**reportedly wrote. 'Scrushy was unjustly enriched by these payments to the

**detriment of HealthSouth. And to allow Scrushy to retain the benefit of

*these payments would be unconscionable.' " Proven by Fact

*Corruption spent $500,000.00 on a party because they think Americans are stupid. Breaking the laws, means nothing to one that have no Honor for there position or even the oath they have taken. As many have not bothered to read Obama's letter to Bernake and Paulson I thought I would summerize and analyze below:

Obama has been claiming that he sounded the alarm bell early on the economic crisis due to the fact that he sent a letter to Bernake and Paulson addressing the subprime mortgage situation.  This claim is ridiculous and stretches the bounds of what would be considered "truthful" for the following reasons:

1)  The letter was sent in March 2007 well AFTER the vast majority of the loans had been made and after problems had already been surfacing.  This is in essence being on the Titanic and mentioning that you had just hit an iceberg, the warning is way too late to be helpful.

2)  The letter itself was not a warning of a potential economic crisis, it was a primarily focused on the impact to low income communities that the foreclosures were having.  To keep with the above analogy this was basically like saying the water coming onto the ship was getting your shoes wet.

3)  The subprime mortgage situation was one factor of the economic crisis but was not the only cause.  The real cause of the crisis was the overall mortgage market, how lax the terms, lending requirements, and base assumptions on all the mortgage loans were getting, the ease and growth of corporate credit and how out of line terms on those types of loans were getting, and finally the extent to which all of our financial institutions had become interconnected (such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and all the institutions that owned their debt).

So the fact that Obama would like to claim victory on calling the economic problems is a joke, like many other of the claims he has made throughout his campaign.  He is not an expert on the economy, he is a guy who sent a letter way too late, focused on the wrong issue.  Now if you say you don't care about the past and let's focus on the plans for the future, well his economic "plan" is to raise taxes, up government spending, and to basically bring back welfare in the form of "tax credit" checks to people who don't pay taxes.

McCain and his VP are insulting the majority of Americans

and the rest of the world poor when they quote 'Joe the

Plumber'. A society that does not take care of its poor and middle class, can not grow. It will remain a lopsided

society. In a fair and just society, you do not have a few fat cats lording it over the under-privileged.

Only a compassionate and people-oriented leader like

Sen Obama with a healthy conscience can come to the

rescue of the downtrodden. Should'nt the evangelical christians know better? It is time to curb the mindless individualism, greed and selfishness of the few shrewd

rich amongst us. Look at what has happened to Wall Street. Why would'nt ppeople who earn more pay a little more tax than the rest of us? Is that not what equity and justice is all about? It is understandable for McCain with his rich wife, seven prestige cars and eleven

choice mansions to protest or defend his position of not wanting to pay more tax to help the poor. He apparently has not yet achieved the American dream!

I always pity those poor crowds clapping and applauding

when he or Palin stands before them mocking and deceiving them. It is time for the republicans to stop the selfishness.

What about Danny the truck driver? I am so tired of the meida being SO biased about their reporting. I listen to the news all day long, It depends on the channel on who's courner they are in. The meida was to report the storys,THE NEWS of the day. Now days the media and I mean ALL THE MEIDA is behind one canidate or the other and you sway the nation. That is not your job. America wants to hear the facts and we will make up our on mind. The news media needs to get back to the basics and quit tring to get there agenda of political positions pused on to the people. CNN clearly an Obama supporter, and Fox is behind McCain. America where are your values? Do we need a babysitter to tell us what we need, and dont need.CNN and FOX shame on you for swinging to the one that puts up the most money for advertising. American people are not stupid as the media suggest we are. Believe it or not we do have the mental compasity to change the channel. Danny The Truck Driver.

Joe The Plumber, well I hear there is a web site, savejoetheplumber.com where they raised more than $1,800 to pay his back taxes, and obtain a plumber's license.  Isn't that what we dem's are all about and what McCane is against.  Dan

YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT A CURVE IS BEFORE YOU CAN GET AHEAD OF IT!

"Joe The Plumber" is a fabricated icon. He is the poster child for how to turn lies into believability. He does not represent "America", why, because WE PAY OUR TAXES, WE USE OUR REAL NAMES, AND WE ALL HAVE JOBS THAT WE ARE ACTULLY LICENSED TO DO!

The following PALIN mentality explains why McCain and Palin would add "Joe" to the ticket:

And Yes, there are 2 links to real articles: MEET SARAH THE IQ DROP OUT:

One of CNN’s best stated yesterday on the Situation Room that the Hillary Robo-call was fair, because it was her own words…I agree. However, in all fairness, Palin; in “her own words” the following needs to be aired and addressed; as it goes to her competence!

Prank radio call or not! She does not have a clue. The only time that her answers are correct, or close to it are when she has been coached and she has rehearsed an answer to the question!

I think that finally electing a person because they were the best canadate is a giant step in the right direction.  I think that Barack Obama is exactly what america needs.  The allegations of socialism are simply ludicris.  The fact that some people still feel that McCains tax plan to cut the corporate gains tax would create more jobs in america are in a dream world.  The big companies getting that break are the same ones sending jobs overseas, do you really think a company that made huge profits without the cut are going to say "Hey now we have enough profit to move the jobs back to america".  The answer is "NO" the fact that they will be paying less in taxes just means more profit in keeping jobs overseas, and what is the point of bussiness to make profit.  Just something to consider.
