Community concerns

We've noticed a disturbing increase in the number of racist comments, personal attacks and other inappropriate posts on in recent days. This is unacceptable and it has to stop. We have already banned some users for violating our Community Guidelines and are actively working to identify and remove problem members. You can help by flagging inappropriate posts and comments. Just click the “flag for review” link wherever you see content that you think violates the site’s community guidelines. I would like to urge everyone to review our Community Guidelines and Section 7(A) of the Terms of Use ("Conduct on") you agreed to when you created your account. Just to be perfectly clear, here are some specific examples of the things that need to stop: Please do not post iReports attacking other members of the community. All that saying "davidw is a racist/sexist/fascist etc" will do is upset that user and likely lead to angry denials and personal attacks. Racist posts will not be tolerated - if you put Obama's head on a monkey (or McCain's for that manner) you will be banned. Impersonating another member of the community by creating a similar username (ie Davidw, davidW, etc) is a violation of the terms of use and is grounds for banning the account. Do not send harassing private messages to other users. If someone asks you to stop contacting them, STOP. We get thousands of comments every day, and most of the discussions on our site are smart, passionate and often funny. All you have to do is look at the entries to the iReport Film Festival or James Amerson's amazing photos of wildlife at the Northwest Florida Zoo to see how inspiring our community really is.

Why is the obvious not being discussed on CNN?  John McCain and Sarah Palin's fear tactic's and consistant remarks about Obama's ties to terrorists will have horrific consequences if history repeats itself. We are neighbors (Canadian) watching in fear for Obama and his family. Perhaps we have no right to comment, however we have been following the American election closely and have found behavior of the public during this campaign shocking! Candidates must be responsible when choosing their words and accusations when addressing the general public, John's rallys have been extremely irresponsible and we are fearful not only for Obama's safety but that our neighboring country might end up with such a clearly self serving and reactive president who obviously does not think about the consequences of his words or choices. (Sarah Palin being a perfect example).  We all know what happens when uneducated people with extreme belief systems feel they have the permission to "Fight". Who isn't getting this!!!!! Someone has to get through to the MCCain/Palin campaign, they are creating possible future events that will haunt them and the American public forever.  Shame on John McCain and Sarah Palin!!!

I thank CNN staff for taking an active role in curtailing personnel attacks on people. It is having a positive affect and I have seen marked reductions.

Doing this (personal attacking) is childish in the extreme and evokes understandable defensiveness from those being targeted; Not what this community is about.

I am deeply sadden that WE as a great nation have come to this. Mccain and Palin have said things about a US senator instead of sticking to the issues and breakdown to the american people what they would do to help get americans working and healthcare for thousands of americans.  I was in the mortgage industy with thousand of other people and a lot of us have been laid off for little over a year now.  We must have change to get our country and pride back.

During this campaign CNN has truly been unbelievably unbiased in their support of Obama.  This race - with the help even encouragement of CNN and others has made this more than ever a white vs black issue.  There does not seem to be room to report anything positive about the McCain/Palin team and here seems to be no need to look into legitimate questions regarding Obama.  Every question or concern about him is disregarded and labeled a racist remark - but some citizens just want the full truth on all of the candidates -- There should be no favoritism for ANY race.  Maybe we are all just conservatives or liberals - or isn't that allowed anymore??

I just can't believe that something as inane, biologically helpless, ignorant, and simple as the mere hue of someone's skin possesses more profound, informative, and educational substance for what's needed to make a well informed, well researched, intelligible decision as to who one will vote for to be our next commander and chief. Barack is black and white, and as long as we continue to see it as such, I guess there will be no common ground, no shades of gray.

Seems like history is repeating itself. I seen a report on today. Some college students in NC went out shot a bear in the head(The claim is they found the bear in that condition)  dressed it in Obama signs and than drop the bear on a college campus. I wouldn't call this a prank. It is alarming. These acts go beyond freedom of speech. Where is America's criminal justice system? I guess America hasn't come as far as we potray to alias. America is seeming to be the biggest hippocrates. If we continue to stand by and let hatred be displayed without punishment, I see america divided and terrorist will be americans on america's soil. Instead of letting these hatred stories be marketed for ratings..they need to be marketed for justice... When will a news network stand up and preach justice. We can not tolerate the behaviors of evil individuals. McCain call these people saying kill him supporters... these people with stuffed monkeys dress up like  Obama...supporters. Give me a break and you want me to trust your judgment. If those are good everyday americans I guess the KKK, Hitler, drug dealers, crips and bloods are every day good people too. We don't need a president that makes excuses for evil minded individuals. That's why my vote goes to Obama

I am totally disgusted with CNN and MSNBC, you talk about attacks ,what about the misquote from Drew Griffin, Why didn't CNN apologize. I guess it is because they only care when it happens to  Obama, and Chris Matthews and Keith Oberman slam McCain and Palin everyday,  I don't see you complaining when the table is turned.

I will never watch CNN or MSNBC again because they are so disrespectful.  On fox they may disagree but they are not disrepectful.

My Critique of Presidential News Coverage

I appreciate the coverage of the campaign however, it is very difficult to listen to you all draw inferences from incomplete statements, such as the one made by Senator Biden.  I believe many time people in their excitement skip some words that they meant to say thereby not completing a frame of thought.  But powerful minds like yours, which seem to always be on point, never make any such mistakes, right?  In my opinion, realizing I wasn't asked for it, I believe that Sen. Biden was trying to make the point:  when a new elect enters the White House there will be test that will ensue him.

Obama brings the experience of not crumbling under the societal pressures of being black in America, something few of the news anchors doing the reporting know about and something the ones who do won’t talk about openly for fear of being outcast.  In short to further your career you better guard your tongue and blend in.  I believe Obama has kept his cool and bent himself correctly his entire life to fit in to mainstream America.  His dedication and temperament has pulled him up by his bootstraps all the way to becoming the Democratic nominee for U.S. President.  For a black in America to arrive at this position is admirable, especially during the onslaught of negativity and criticism that become theirs to face daily.  The criticisms that you all have said Obama and Biden should avoid concerning Governor Palin, seems to be unfair especially since she is like a loose canon blasting all sorts of indecencies about the Democratic ticket.

To say the least I find it appalling how certain members of the  Republican party and some of the media (which choose to use the platform to exercise their political views) still nail him on all fronts.

Obama is expected to take the higher road and remain calm and poised.  I believe he has done just that and it speaks mountains on how he will conduct himself under the stresses and pressures of the Presidency.  Let's get real!  McCain speaks as if he is the only one that has been tested for the sake of this country. The standards that blacks are held to in this country are a daily test, not just a call to duty during war times.

Based on statistics, blacks in America are tested daily even during times of peace. They have to continue to plow through the heavy weight of prejudice while continuing on the same road and facing all the same challenges that are before their white counterparts.

Blacks are tested daily as they have to continue to believe in America even though it is apparent that they are not considered to be like you (mainstream America) as it has been so eloquently stated by nearly everyone in earlier news casts.

It’s time out for the continual separatist views that have governed this country up to now.  It’s time to erase the code words and all the little nuances while we embrace people right where they are.  The only tests that should be before America today is, can we create a unified front to support the man who will take the office of President of the United States of America, and will we all be able to truly accept the challenge of respecting cultural and gender differences?

Obama has had to be very smart, controlled, calm, and above all, above the traditional bull to arrive at this place.  You all may continue to criticize him, but I suggest you should also shed some admiration in his direction for all that he stands for in patching the torn fabric of America.

I am a 24 year old African American female and this year would be my first time voting. I am voting for Obama but not because he is black. I would not vote for someone because of there race but because he is who we need in the White House to get this economy back on track. They also think about everyone, not just giving the rich a tax break. Also the economy is affecting me, making it difficult to find a decent job. Mccain says little about helping the middle class. But what can you expect? Republicans wants the rich to stay rich and the poor to stay poor, but no one wants to talk about that. Mccain could get some more votes if he talk more about what he's going to do if he's elected president than putting down Obama.

Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched

of view be different? Could racism be the culprit? Ponder the

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage,

including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant

        teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his

        graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a

Minnie09 and Dora64, I agree with you both.  The Black and white issue is old racist way of thinking, because there are so many people are now multiracial.  There is no way to look at a person and classify them, and there is no reason to do so.  People who persist in this racist attitude are no longer in the majority.  As far as not having any of preference to vote for is a valid argument, because I would have voted Republican if there were a viable choice.  What I'm left with is a lesser of two evils, and that is Obama.  Which ever Candidate wins will be little cause for celebration, not until I see positive results!

I watched Sean Hannity's report (10 Reasons Not to Vote for Barack Obama) last night.  I was appalled at the lack of responsibility he exhibited in his reporting.  After hearing about the foiled attempt by a group of skin heads today on Senator Obama's life, I felt that Sean needed to hear from someone.  Therefore, I wrote to him and felt I should post my comments for others to see.  If you saw the report and feel the same please join me in writing to Sean.

I have posted my comments  below:

Sean, I was very disappointed in your report (10 reasons not to vote for Barack Obama) last night. You should be more responsible than that.  You could not have possibly believed that that type of reporting would not set off some lunatic.  Therefore, you single handedly may become responsible for attempts on Barack's life. I call what you did by the misuse of your network, character assassination at the least, willful, and suggestive assassination at the most.  Which I believe, triggered the foiled attempt on Barack's life.  How would you feel if... some one based on your irresponsible reporting called for your arrest along with the skinheads that were arrested today? Somehow I feel you are partly responsible for their actions.  In the future why not try being more thoughtful and responsible in your reporting. You as a news anchor, I am sure, should have the studies of human relations, psychology and sociology in your arsenal.  Use your knowledge and skills more effectively.  You have a responsibility to society to be non-biased in your reporting especially when what you say could trigger life-threatening occurrences.  Act responsibly, for your own conscience sake!

I may be spending too much time absorbed with all the news and election campaigns, but has anyone besides me noticed that when Sen Obamas poll numbers go up, so does the stock/dow jones/trading? Not just here, but all the markets around the world. Then, when the McCain poll numbers inch up, the trading/or selling starts up again, world wide. This is an incredibly different and powerful election year. Am I the only one that is seeing this as being tied together, the market activity and the polls numbers?  Maybe I just need a nap. Could it be that the entire world is watching the campaign and the polls, just as closely as we are, and it IS having an effect on the entire world markets?

Can someone please explain why CNN is not covering Obama's association with Kalidi?  I typically try to watch CNN's and Fox's coverage on current presidential happenings to gather my own opinion based on what is covered by both networks.  The only presidential coverage I have found on CNN in the past week is jabs at Palin and McCain's falling in the polls.  I really am concerned that if CNN does not cover this issue they will be responsible for misinformation to the public.  Please shed some light on this subject, it is a big concern to alot of Americans.  We need a leader that is loyal to "Our country", is he or is he not?

I am not a racist... but this is what I think...

Why I think Obama is a socialist. doesn't reach socialism in one fell is a creeping slug. But let's not put real legs to it.

1. Obama grew up with a mother who studied it from the time she was a young girl and married a man (Obama's father) who not only believed in socialism but was a hard core communist. Look up why Jomo Kenyatta ousted him from his government in Kenya. Also his support for Raila Odinga in his bid for power in Africa.

2. Out side of socialism somewhat but still troubling. He did receive Islamic teaching in school as a young boy at precisely the age that he would be most vulnerable. Compound that with his middle eastern associations that we now know about.

3. His association with avowed communist Frank Davis who befriended and advised him as a young boy and young man.

4. His association with Saul Alinsky the socialist "organizer". Read what Alinsky's son said about Obama.

5. His association with Bill Ayers, ACORN, and numerous other questionable characters.

6. His association with Tony Rezco.

7. His history in Chicago, Illinois, and U.S. the entire story.

8. I read his book "Dreams from my Father" when he first announced he was running and I didn't know who he was. I started reading from there because I came away from that book with the feeling that he was a very conflicted young man and his.

9. 20 years listening to Reverand Wright

When looking at a candidate for President, I want someone with good character. The party is what it is and always has been but the person heading it can push it towards disaster if they are not of good character. If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. He has too many questionable associations in his history. One or two maybe I can overlook but his whole history is replete with them. Too questionable to even consider.

I have to vent and let people know how I feel... I have emailed this to everyone I know - they may disagree or agree with me - you make up your own mind.

Thanks for listening

I just saw something very disturbing on HBO.  It was a documentary call HACKING DEMOCRACY. Have you ever seen it?  It shows how votes were manipulated in the 2000 and 2004 elections.  The states of concern to me are Florida and Ohio.  Other states were mentioned.  Why have this information not been provided to the public?

Better yet, why have these people, Diebo and the GOP, been prosecuted?  What is the plan for this year? STEAL ANOTHER ELECTION?????????

davidw - your comments make perfect sense.  However, remember you advertise this blog as unfiltered and uncensored.  So its somewhat ambigueos, in its message.  Most people who post racist stuff are very fragile and insecure.  And therein lies my point, theres no such thing as racism, its insecurity. Plain and simple.  One thing also thats apparent is that America has finally crossed that last threshold of greatness.  Now they can really say we're the greatest country on the planet.  For now, they've finally become color blind.  Thats why I feel good about this election because Obama will win, and lets be honest, theres no way he could have done that with out whites embracing him as well.  This election is making a very powerful statment to children all over America, letting them know theres no excuses, you can be what you want to be.  Again, people who write in racist posts, are extremely insecure people, they feel desperate right now, and McCain/Palin sure haven't helped the matter by launching all these personal attacks, all that does is harbor fear mongering amongst weak minded people, but America is showing that its rejecting that simple minded for of attack.  Kudos to America you've finally come of age.

I ask this about race because it seems to challenge many of my liberal friends. How do you feel about calling President-elect Obama a Kenyan-American?

Precious few black Americans can claim a country in Africa or the islands or any place of their ancestors. As is most often the case, black Americans can only claim or are assumed to claim the continent of Africa: What rarefied air for President-Elect Obama. He even knows the area and "tribe" to which his father belonged. He has a connection to the habits and traditions of his Kenyan heritage as well as embracing all that makes him a Midwestern American.

Imagine Irish, Italian, German, French, and Spanish people of the United States simply as "European Americans."

This argument against gay marriage, that it protects our chikdren, is ludicrous and non-sensical.  The only children harmed are those gay children who are shown by society that there is something wrong with being gay.  Some people who are members of other minorities complain that gays are not truly oppressed because it is a choice and against the bible.  Here is an example of true oppression:  Young gay people not only worry about societal consequences-- but rejection FROM THEIR OWN FAMILIES.  This is not easy to deal with.  In fact, over 30% of teenage suicides are attributed to gay shame.  I say shame on you for not supporting gay marriage.

Mr. Obama,

Please close your ears to stupid people!  You just try your best and angels cannot ask for any more!  If you can reverse the stem cells issue it would most likely benefit he who vetoed it in the first place.  Abortion is a touchy subject.  Personally, I would love to have a choice whether to keep a child or not for my health, or for reasons of rape, not as a contraceptive.  I am a teacher and children vary every year that I am in the profession.  Some years you have a crop of distinguished ladies and gentlemen and some years you don't, but they are still special people and do say the darndest things so they deserve to be given a chance at life.

Women, if you find yourself unable to take care of the gem you are to protect yourselves against having unwanted children!

Mr. Obama,

I wish you all the best and good luck in your new post.  Work hard at it but be sure to enjoy what you do and get lots of rest for presidency ages you quickly!  God bless you and God bless the U.S.A!
