Our roundtable discussions have been such a big success we've decided to add regular evening meetings.
We plan to do this once a month, so we can talk to people who aren't able to attend our weekly sessions on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m.

@davidw Sometimes my comments pop up immediately, but mostly I have to refresh. Is that in the fix tomorrow?
@Spontaneous -- We expect tomorrow's maintenance to fix most of the problems. We may have a few stray bugs to deal with, but it should be a lot better.
How would you like us to handle double posting? If it is done by mistake, what should we do? We can't delete ourselves.
The list posted earlier is good and it sounds like a great team effort to get this site running smoothly ..thank you in advance to everyone involved in the reprogramming fixing and getting the glitches out..It's going to be great! thanks so much.. I used to assist a programmer and it was interesting work. Very challenging sometimes. Change one thing and a whole string of things would happen..like a chain reaction.. fun...

I had a report fail five times over the weekend. I e-mailed the links to contact@ireport.com to have them removed from "My Stuff." I was told that they cannot be removed.
@KarmaHD -- We haven't sorted the ratings out yet. Now that we've gotten this upgrade out of the way our developers can focus on things like the rating system.
We're looking into possible replacement ratings systems, or ditching it altogether. We don't want to make a rash decision and end up with another system everyone hates and doesn't work.
my computer crashed last week on Wednesday..finally it is back and working again. I lost everything so it's a bit slow getting things in order again..Sorry I missed the roundtable but I read it all once I got my computer back from the crash hospital..Did anyone else have computer problems last Wednesday when the changes were starting to happen on here??
@Spontaneous Try to avoid double posts, of course, but don't worry if you do on accident. We have moderators that work around the clock. They delete any duplicate posts they see.

I know some people mentioned comments taking a long time to appear. What about not being able to see any comments at all. Is that another problem that will be addressed? This has been happening to me all day.
@Davidw - The upload seemed faster, but I noticed that photos are no longer resized to fit the frame. They were chopped off. Is this a glitch, or the new format?
@davidjw Well, if one person flagging a comment meant it was removed from the site, then way too many comments that don't deserve to disappear would disappear simply because people didn't like them or didn't agree with them. By having the requirement that it be flagged multiple times, we can control offensive content without sacrificing good content.

This has probably been addressed already. But here goes anyway.
Any solution to the "word mush" that I see in longer reports and responses? Wereall thewords seemto runtogether. It seems to smooth out once I toggle between "more" and "less." It is annoying nontheless. Thank you!!

Besides it makes it look like an elementary school project or a joke..and it's not funny
@davidjw -- It takes multiple flags to make it harder to abuse the system. I go through every morning and look at the flagged comments. I don't always pull them, in some cases because they don't violate the guidelines and other times because it is really labor intensive.
I prefer to deal with the person who is making the comment.
That's why you'll sometimes see a really bad comment and see that the commenter has been banned.

@DTOM1975 -- I'm not sure if that's one of the bugs that was fixed in this round. If not, it will be taken care of soon. We all agree that that's annoying and appreciate everyone's patience.
davidw I had a strange thing happen earlier tonight too. I posted comments and suddenly there appeared a scroll bar going from left to right taking out a portion of my comments! First time I've seen that..do you know what that is about?
There still seem to be some ID's out there with multiple users. like a kid is using the parent's ID. Has CNN considered having a separate area for teens? Or raising the age from 13 to 18? Sometimes the personalities really seem to change.

@AlunHill -- basically what has been happening is that people are giving low ratings to people's iReports because they don't like them. It's upsetting for a lot of folks to do a lot of work on an iReport and then instantly get one star.
We're working on replacing that system.

The 1 star comment refers to an individual or individuals, who enter a post just to give it a 1 star rating. They don't bother reading the post. Their only mission is to denegrade the post!
I think that CNN should have iReporter night. Where superstar iReporters get invited and have open discussions on national TV about issues, somewhat like youtube live.
Alun - "one star bandit" is slang for a person who goes to your post and gives you a rating of only one star instead of properly rating the story simply because they don't like you.

The person committing this malevolent act is an irrational agitator that for now cannot be controlled. I for one like countless others have been victimized by this person or persons. There is no way to ascertain who it is.
@Spontanous "Newsiest" is determined by a combination of factors, including "on CNN" status, number of views, number of comments, etc. So it's frequently filled with "on CNN" posts because they tend to fit those requirements, but there's no requirement that posts be on CNN to be considered "newsiest."
@DodgerManny Interesting idea! Would it be like a live Skype chat? Or get everyone together in person? What do you have in mind?

@larena -- We won't be asking for passports to participate in iReport. If you get a private message that seems suspicious or makes you uncomfortable then let us know.
It's also a good idea to not open links sent to you by people you don't know.

David as this is an open website and people are basically free to say what they like on here, does that include endless advertising of promotions for anything from care products to deals on restaurant discounts etc? I am only asking because I was under the impression this was a place to report news, events, community affairs, international and current affairs, personal experiences etc. Those topics deserve to be at the top of the lists of On CNN and Newsiest and for the people posting reports to have the chance at being one of your superstars if that is still going to stay on here..I kind of hope the superstar thing disappears..keep it real..

@zdan. I was thinking everyone in person. Many of us, are outspoken on the web and it will be interesting, if we were all together in one room at the same time, about what we had to say....
@DodgerManny -- I love that idea and have absolutely no idea how it would work (which makes it even cooler). We would love to encourage iReporters to connect both online and in real life. I know one iReporter who is starting up a citizen journalist/iReporter meetup group in Denver, Colorado, and I hope he's the first of many.
Other, more high-tech ways like Skype chats could also be cool.

@gilldreams -- there's a very fine line between promotion and advertising spam. If someone is making a product that they're really excited about, I don't want them to feel like they can't share it with the world because they're also selling that product.
On the other hand, posting links to get-rich-quick Web sites or other things posted in the comments of unrelated stories is spam.

@Spontaneous Like David said, it's a fine line. If it's a link to their blog or something they've created and want to share, it's generally fine. We want people to be able to show off their work. But if they're posting multiple times, or it's clearly a scam or "get rich quick" scheme, that qualifies as spam.
Hi everyone, just getting in. Sorry if someone else posted this problem but I am having so much trouble uploading a report that I have given up. In Internet Explorer the "Submit" button is greyed out. If I switch to Mozilla, 4 times out of 5 it crashes before uploading. If it does upload, it usually won't process. Arghhh! I've reported it to tech support, but no response. Thank you. I'll catch up on the comments now.
A person was banned and came back to say goodbye recently.
@Ryn -- It's something we're looking at, but it will probably be a while because there's just a lot of things to figure out. Unfortunately they didn't have party planning classes in journalism school :)

I tried uploading a post from about 4:00 yesterday afternoon until well after midnight (off and on)
I used mozilla and finally tried Explorer. It finally decided to upload all the way, sometime in the wee hours.
So frustrating!
As soon at it posted it was hit with the one star.

Rachel8 I am talking about endless numbers of posts full of websites promoting nonsense like a giant internet billboard..It is nuts..there is no substance or reporting on there at all..just advertising and it's absolutely nothing like I have ever seen before. One person is so obsessed they have posted well over a thousand posts in a short period of time with nothing of interest at all..nothing personal, rarely any news, mostly just this endless obsession of posting crap..Sorry but it's true..I don't go there at all The titles used to draw me in..but I know better now..I am not giving them an up on their count as that seems to be the plan..get as many hits or views then that boosts up the rating for the person..silliness
I think if it is a live get together on the CNN set then it should be the best of the best representing and not a free for all...maybe have contests that encourage good behavior for instance.

One thing people might want to consider is hosting your own meetup in your community.

Then you can find people in your area who have the same interests.

@gilldreams Yeah, unfortunately, it's a fact of life that any social media website is going to have spam. You can always hit the "report violation" button to let us know about it, but other than that, it's best to just ignore it (and never click on the links, of course!)

Gulp - I'll do that then - I'm in Singapore and Indonesia this weekend, so will do it on my return. @italco..LOL I have disagreed with a few folks on here but the ones that are "real ireporters" and have stuck around..I would enjoy meeting them regardless.
Have the 3 best debating conservatives going up against the 3 best liberals or moderates who can argue either side...all ireporters....amature hour on CNN...reality Television at its best.
Thanks rachel8 that is what I do..after getting drawn in like I said a few comments ago..I do not venture there at all. Made the mistake of going to a post after I think it was the first roundtable as it was referring to a topic on here..BIG MISTAKE.. the attack was in progress and the little click of elementary school behavior ran rampit it was disgusting!! All I had done was to comment on here and there was such a time delay my comments got lost amoung all the others so I never did get to answer back to the person who was so rude and nasty to me for no justifiable reason! name calling etc..very childish like a 10 year old would do..

@DodgerManny -- we've also done things where we had people discuss/debate issues over their Web cams and it's turned into some really interesting discussions.

@everyone if you are having problems in IE it could be worth experimenting with Firefox for informational purposes if nothing else. In any case, we'll be rolling out a fix tomorrow and it should alleviate some issues. I hope this helps the uploads, too. Let me know if you have trouble uploading videos.
@Ryn -- Another thing we'd like to do is use these sessions to do some brainstorming to come up with ideas for creating story assignments and covering major news events.
We've got a ton of talented people in our community with countless different points of view, so I'm sure we can come up with some great ideas together.

Good question Margot. I don't mind that I am not in the top 30 as I see posts all the time that generate hundreds of thousands of hits and those ireporters never semm to make it up there..but is total number of posts an ireporter has placed a factor in who is on the board and who is not?
@ireporttwo David does his best to make sure users only have one account. It's a lot of work, but he's always trying to work on it.
@italco -- We'll have to see if she's available sometime. No promises though. Our anchors do have to juggle a lot of things and deal with a lot of information on the fly without losing their cool, they would be good people to learn from.
@nsaidi Firefox is all I use and I haven't really experienced any issues uploading with it.

@Margot707 -- That's a great question. The reason we changed the system was that there were people who hadn't posted in months who were still at the top of the list.
We didn't want the Superstars to turn into the iReport Hall of Fame.
Basically, the new formula is a little more dynamic, so people can move up the list easier, but people who may have been less active or had a burst of activity and then stopped posting would slide down the list.

I'm 52 years old, or will be on 27 mar 09. I've been off from work since July 08. I've been watching CNN everyday since everything fell apart in august. My mother once told me if you can't find a job in the field u went to school for it's time to find another field. It looks to me most of the unemployed are in computers graphic design and admin. Maybe, these folf should look for something in skill labor. there are lots of them out. Stop crying about want the president ain't doing & want he should be doing. And start doing for yourself. Did, say I had a total need replacement, so I may have to consider a nother feild of work since I'm a mechanic & stand up all day. I Put My Life In God's Hand Not The President.
