Thank you to everyone who participated in this week's roundtable
We're working with CNN.com's entertainment section to come up with ways to get iReporters more involved in our showbiz coverage. Obviously, we'll be talking about "Star Trek", the new Harry Potter and other highly anticipated movies, but what else is going on? We want to know what's on your radar, whether it's a big concert or music festival, an album release, or any other entertainment anniversary or event.
Our goal is to come up some new ways to talk about the entertainment world that are fun to watch, and fun for you to produce.

Katie...I have alot of stories with pictures, of big celebrites that happened with me many years ago, are you only interested in new stories or also older stories?
@dpkronmiller he's not "klingy" is he? rimshot.... so I think I speak for everyone on the team by saying we would love to see something about that. Could he even walk us through his outfit and all that stuff? That's the good thing about LA... you never know what you're going to see.

Of course, being a bit biased here, is iReport interested in highlighting the growing online entertainment options? Like the series my wife and I started doing or even the ones that the studios are behind like the "Other Side" or "Harpers Globe" series?

Maybe - they did finish shooting - his name is TJ Storm - he's a martial artists, my former sensai, - not sure how big of a klingon part he has but I know he'd probably agree to an interview (trying to get him on and Boris soon too - he's an amazing martial artist but I digress)

Hello All! Question regarding entertainment assignments, can we interview celebrities and do we need a different release form for them to sign since they are SAG?
@TheDimmitt We thought it was really funny and creative! I moved it out of the "Have you been judged on looks?" assignment since it wasn't necessarily on topic ;) But you didn't upset us, no worries ;)
I would try reviewing TV shows I do watch one a week
tyson - music reviews are the most subjective. i can't play audio at work, and you from what someone has written you can't ever tell if the music is any good or not. career retrospectives of great musicians might be nice, but i would find reviews of new music difficult
@Salsteels -- That could be really interesting. Or the opposite, bands that are amazing live but their CDs are meh.

All of it really. I think public opinion is often more important then a critical studies film reviewer sometimes - we like movies and entertainment for different reasons - not always because of the need to see "high art" - whatever that might be... :)

@iReport Team what about shows that have been on for a long time, like Law and Order, Simpsons, etc. Talk about which season was the best or should they just stop.
david...I know this is off the entertainment topic...however, I am still unclear as to what constitutes an act than can cause one to get banned...notwithstanding the obvious...
How about having weekly photography themes to contribute to and not just for travel? For example, not everyone has been to India (yet). And, how about adjusting the picture orientation to accomoodate vertical and horizontal photos without compromising the image dimensions?

there is an extremely offensive user name out there. I hit the violation and also sent an email earlier today, but nothing has been done. why?
@iReport Team, what about Jay Leno taking prime time in a new direction. One hour now is lost, and that is when shows that are a little more dramatic run since they are not for the whole family.
@everyone -- One thing that I'd like to see is more localized entertainment news i.e. something that's huge in your community that might unknown everywhere else.
Is that something that y'all would be interested in doing?

good idea - an opportunity to keep it topical would be when bands appear on live or semi-live programs like SNL or The Tonight Show - not to mention some of those bands are often very obscure (or am I just starting to get old?)

How and why are normal comments being removed. example "thanks for your comments" or I am so happy you commented on this post it is special and means alot to me, or just any other comments that are not heated or debating anyone?? what is going on please?
@AlunHill those sound like great film ideas! What about international films in general? What is your opinion of the scene in Britain? Also, are there things that go on in London that you would see going on, or is there something specific to where you live? Just curious. I bet the Darwin film wold get some attention.

good topic idea - my wife and I are addicted to most food reality shows - top chef - heck even Alton Brown's Good Eats really influenced how I do my iReports so there the addiction moved to inspiration.
Also what about the impact of reality tv - there's a lot in that discussion that could be fun.

About that pesky one star bandit (with multiple personalities). There are times that some of my best posts have been slammed by multiple one star ratings in just one minute. I can see that my post has only been viewed 2 times, yet it has already been rated 5 or 6 times with one star. How is that possible? Does that mean someone is logging into different accounts from the same location (IP address) and rating multiple times? How can we stop this?
hi all my fello ireporters and david how are you when are the bullies going to stop they are here to stay and attack me and i am tired i keep placing violation and they are still here david i know its imposible to control them but they are the ones that doesn´t have any ireport and keep with the bullies, to a lot of ireporters and the good ones are banned i don´t understand the system now

salsteels - i'm not sure i would regard variety or talk shows to be "reviewable" since they have an ever changing guest list. you either grock the host(ess) or you don't. and my favorite TV show of all time was the HBO mini-series "rome", but if you find out about it after the first few episodes its difficult to pick up in the middle of it.

@JoyfulGypsy -- We're close to a resolution on the rating system. In the meantime, it may be some comfort to know that stories that have one star rank higher than stories with no stars in the newsiest rankings.

@David - To stop the revolving door, isn't there someway to require complete profiles with verified addresses or phone #'s before allowing someone to make comments and reports? Trolls keep on popping up time and again.

Cinema in London is particularly expensive, starting at around $USD20 minimum - and popcorn costs the same!
That said, we have some great "art" cinemas - and some great "huge" cinemas showing the latest films in great comfort.
It's very annoying to see films ages after their US launch - but there's talk of digital transmission via satellite, so the costs and time should come down, allowing us to see films earlier.
Just realised I have a 3d camera - I should do the first 3d iReport, shouldn't I!

I've always thought a festivals web site would be great something to cater to just about any fringe group. I used to hit all the kite festivals in the US. But any activity or festival that is a weekend long or like Fiesta would be nice. I could make travel plans.
@tyson. Photography themes are endless. Pick one and we're bound to get a lot of fabulous and inspird submissions.

@David- i ahve noticed the star rating does not seem to effect the newsiest- I like thjat. however, there are soe tings that wind up in "newsiest" that I would not consider news - like "Why is so ans so banned?"

since iReport is an online thing - what about my idea of reviewing or reporting on online entertainment options? The rise of HULU, youtube, and of course iReport - it would be nice to start to see some topics about this phenom. In researching for our thing I've come across a lot of online shows both fiction and non-fiction - some good, some bad (many not so good yet). But it's a growing industry and speaking as an insider here in the entertainment industry it is the direction we've been going for some time now. Thoughts?

Lette I agree. There is a concerted effort going on to get specific iReporters banned by being antagonizing and baiting them until they blow up and say things they don't really mean. Auntiebjw and Emuu were the latest in this game.

I apologize for my language. I am taking a lot of flack for this in the newsroom.
dpk it happened to me and a few other ireporter this past week..one minute the comments are there the next they were gone..Lucky for me I started copying all my comments kind of a drag to have to do that! Who is deleting the comments?? and why are they doing this continuously??? It's bad enough people are getting removed and set up by others but the comments too? come on! this is not right at all.
@ group- I hear folks complain about ireports on other blogs but I think it is unique and appreciate that it is connected to a legit news media site. Otherwise it is just a blog.

i can see where david is going with local entertainment reviews - it would help drive up "traffic" to this site, but only if you could review stuff BEFORE it happened. not too many people are going to care about a one time event thats already over. but i would like to read about stuff that i could still attend, or watch. a museum exhibit, for example.

About "Newsiest" ... too many times it's nothing more than people having a conversation about something totally not "news worthy" and yet those posts override more important posts just because they get more comments. Seems like a waste of space.

we have a music type festival here and if I get my digitel I will be able to film it ..until then I can only do stills..It is similar to Carnival! Costumes, dancing in the streets, music lots of fun ...will try to get some pics..it's in August..

Ignore them -you've made your point, your post / pic / video is at the top. You win.

They have said they're looking at the star system and clearly lots of idiots have been removed - but these things take time and there's no full cure.

Say, I can chat for about five min, so I'll throw out some red meat. 1) Star Trek will make $400 million in two weeks. 2) IT DOES MESS UP San Francisco's Skyline. 3) The story will be a good one from what I read. Reviews are all over. Would be great to get iReporters in various cities pooled together per city.

The problem has escalated beyond hurt little feelings as you put it!
I take offense to your attitude and unless you have been stalked on here, had nasty threats made against you via email on ireports, had several people gather as a particular group and flag your posts, comments and spread that all around the site I suggest you be a little bit tolerant of people who have had really nasty things go on here! thanks.

David this is a roundtable discussion with time delays here so please forgive me if I am not up to par with the conversation ok..We should be able to discuss all that is going on so we can as ireporters continue to enjoy this site without threats of being kicked off. It has been said there is a 3 time warning system..I don't know about that ..I have not been told by anyone who got removed that they recieved any warnings at all..but that is not up to me to be involved in. I do however think that when ireporters get a second id that is against the rules here, for the sole purpose of causing problems for others ..why are they exempt from either getting warned or removed from this site? just had to vent..sorry if I have offended anyone..

gilldreams - stalkers lose interest if you ignore them. and hate emails are like spam - i delete 100 pieces of spam a day. this is why i don't go for margots sugggestion to have our phone numbers or other "verified" information on our private profiles. i suspect some of these ax-grinders work as iReport violations monitors.

david - for "local entertainment" i'd suggest categories like museums, local theater (the kind with multiple performances), maybe even public gardens (longwood gardens about an hour from here are fantastic)

Not sure what you're concern is - I've been honestly very surprised about how patient and open CNN's been with us all - let's face it this a risky thing this iReport for CNN to some degree - the volume they have to contend with alone is impressive.
And there have been a lot of very abusive folks and odd propaganda from other countries - I remember seeing a rash of pro-Georgian and pro-Russian posts when that conflict arose that had nothing to do with iReport or citizen journalism.
By the by someone asked about clearance issues with celebrities - if they know they are going to be on something and are speaking on camera you should be fine - especially if they are a public person. I haven't had any trouble with the folks I've interviewed - the problem would more be if your posting someone's image without them knowing you even took the image. I try to only have faces in my reports from folks I know understand that they might end up here. If you notice a lot of my B-Roll is of neckless people lol

@David - regarding the star rating system, it was said by someone previously that some people go around hitting various people with 1 star regardless of the content because they have it in for the poster. many of us feel that the system should be changed to an 1 star or nothing system. If you like the post, give it a thumbs up or a star. If you don't like it, there's no way to mess up the rating.
@adriana71 we're going to be looking at late night when Conan comes up in June and then again when Leno comes up in September. What could we do to explore that? Should we go head to head? Ideas?

Unfortunately (fortunately) I'm at work and having a hard time keeping up.
Is there a way to limit the number of posts a person can submit on a daily basis? I find that there are some that post endlessly on nothing of importance or interest and their posts keep pushing the more important posts down the pile and make them harder to find. (Especially with the one star bandit lurking around with their finger on the trigger.)

@someone, what about the use of foreign language. There have been times I've used a translator and found it to be so offensive, clearly they person(s) used it to avoid being disciplined? Just a simple question.

Good point. Currently I embed some videos in one of my websites. Specifically there are great poster who have shared their medical and insurance experiences that I have used. This place is full of great material.
I am not a movie buff... Got any other ideas? However, I do not want to ruin the assignment for others so have at it.

If people treat each other with respect they won't have to worry about being banned.
hairy otter they do not lose interest at all. they pass on info to others and it becomes a group effort to attempt to drive people from the website..That has been the experience of many on this site. I don't know how long you have been on here and if you delete 100 spams that is mind boggling to me.

"Behind the scenes" is always interesting - where the film / tv show was made, for example, what is there now (cafe / hotel / castle / street), what changes did the TV crew make (covering up parking meters / changing shop signs / station / street names).

eliminating stars won't change the nature of how people debate. i'm not sure who's been banned in the past, but the current level of angst demonstrates thats not working either. people say its worse than ever. how do people live day to day in the real world if they feel they must inevitable respond to every "bait" remarks in a safe forum like iReports. do we need CNN moles to watch our every movement?
@larena -- Please do not make a CNN iReport ID. That could give people the impression that you worked for CNN.

Well I have no idea what the star thing means and I really don't care how people view my posts. There is too much of the star thing going on for me to worry about. I personally like the idea that people can post things and I like the local entertainment idea. I don't post to get 200 responses. I post because something interests me so I post it. You want to comment on it fine you want to rate me one start fine too. I really don't know who rates or how you rate or even care if that means I live or die. I'm just here for fun.
@Tyson, what about iReports submitting video of "Hi I'm JonDoe and iReport for CNN." Have the editing department put all the iReporters that read a specific script together and put it on iReport.com. Shows the community that we have here. Like that Weezer video Pork and Beans.

@ireporter. I read an article from Salon, that a Texas Educational board is going to determine what type of science book that is going to be chosen. In turn this will force many other district to chose the same science book. Adding creationism to Darwin's theory. We could do an ireport on that.
@JoyfulGypsy story limits is certainly something we've considered, but since iReport is also an important newsgathering tool, we wary of creating any kind of limits.
A couple weeks ago, it was suggested user's most-recent story shows up under assignments. Do you think that would be a good solution?

I like the idea of an HTML code "college" where others can share what works and what is and is not allowed?
a tactic I like to use is when someone is being directly abusive or just mean spirited in their comments I send them an email on iRepot - I try to reach out to them. It's actually been a really interesting way of handling conflict.
Can we do a review of any dvd's we watch? using still pictures ?? We only have one movie theatre here and it's at the other end of the Island LOL so we love to get dvd's and watch those..
lette - anyone who demands personal phone numbers and wants 24/7 patrols to keep out viewpoints they object to is an info nazi. thats what we objected to with the excesses of homeland security. we don't want it in our government, but we insist on it here? cognitive dissonance. whats really being requested ideological purity and elimination of viewpoints we disagree with.

Also what about art? At my site we're starting to feature artists soon - it be a good assignment I think here. Not much attention gets placed on some more traditional forms of art nd literature.
@Salsteels just want to say, when you mentioned the ticket stubs I got to thinking about all these weird things I've saved... old photos, plane tickets, candy wrappers, Disneyland admission passes, old subway passes, etc., that make up a memory record. The kinds of things you might be putting in a scrapbook.. a digital scrapbook. Just a thought.
@nsaidi ok. I don't have any "Saw the Beatles in 68" tickets but I have some concerts and movies that I went to. What I would do is take some pictures using the macro setting on my camera and edit them together. Probably talk about the memories I have since some are 10 years old.

Photography is one of my favorite hobbies. I use a 35 mm Nikon, scan the pics, copy to my pc, and then upload. However, I just got a brand new digital camera for my 50th birthday from my son and am learning how to use it and the video function. I would love to see a photography section. That would be boss!! As for my favorite and addictive show, "Ghost Hunters" on SCI FI channel, Wednesday nights. It is the only show I really never miss.
The only thing the star thing accomplishes is getting your post pushed into oblivion, if the bandit or bandits with multiple accounts hit you.
You post a report to get your view or share something with the readers. If it is pushed back because of one star ratings it will not be seen period.
It will not stop being on newsiest or stop CNN from attaching the logo, but it will bury your post.
I still say one star rating only or no star.
margot - nobody can 'get you banned' - its what we write that gets us banned. take responsibility for what WE write, if we're objecting to others opinions.

@gilldreams As long as that still photo belongs to you, it's fine. Try and get creative with your iReports! If you watched a movie that inspired you to go out and try something new, etc. then we'd love to hear your story. We also may revisit some classic movies that have upcoming anniversaries, so keep an eye out for those!

The star rating system is abused by childish adults,on the basis of intolerance no competition... I have gotten to the point where I have nothing but disdain for the rating system. As long as the message is conveyed, the one star rater has done nothing but make the system a joke...

please someone ask: Once a report is stamped CNN, does that mean it is vetted and the said reporter contacted either by phone or e-mail?...and if the reporter is not contacted and the report keeps its stamp over time...then what?...Isn't it a question of ethics and honesty to vet reports that have been stamped CNN?...thanks...Larry

you wanted to know creative ways to post less journalistic content right?
Something like an "Expression Corner" or some such named section of the site to encourage individual art and well, expression. I think it would be a mistake to turn any of this into a youtube thing but if it's focused then perhaps it can be successful. I think citizen journalism has been helpful in finding the common voice, the lay opinion outside of the media or political bubble - but there's also something to be said about individuals out there who might want to show people their art - be it photography, painting, or for nut jobs like me - narrative webseries.
So maybe a focused and filtered section for non-news stuff would be fun. Users can read about a celebrity's or studio's latest thing and then see someone in the iReport community doing something similar.

I have some absolutely awesome nature pics that I have taken over the years that I would love to post. Praying mantis eating, birds, raccoons, flowers, deer, you name it. Your question about education goes to root of our kids problems most just need help I'm asking my Senators to look at no child left behind, to include tutoring hours at school, I would like to see our schools extented an hour a day which would accomadate working families, to have an hour dedicated to being broken up into four main groups,math, reading, science etc. If you as a student don't have an A gradepoint you can't get out of it.
