The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
Thanks for your patience this morning while we rolled out a handful of fixes and some shiny, new features on iReport.com. The highlights:
* (Drumroll, please ...) No more star ratings - It's no secret that the iReport community wasn't very fond of the star ratings on iReport stories, so for now we've disabled them altogether while we work on a better alternative.
* Profile stats - Take a look at anyone's profile page and you'll see some new info about a person's activity in the community.
* 'Tweet this' links - We added "Tweet" links on every story and assignment page that make it really simple to share an iReport through your Twitter account
* Staff badges - Starting today, iReport staffers get a special treatment around their screennames so you can tell who we are.
Hope you like the new stuff. As always, you can drop us a line at contact@ireport.com or leave a note in the comments to let us know what you think.
WOW!! Thanks! :-)
It's a miracle. I thought there was something wrong with my computer. I rebooted it twice. lol
I still can't believe it.
I liked the stars because I liked giving props!
Uploaded a report twice but failed, pics wont get uploaded gets stuck half way
Please put a limit to the number of posts that someone can do a day. Every thought that pops into someone's head does not a post make. If they just want to see their face, they can look in a mirror. Some are so mindless and just clutter up ireports. How about a limit of five?
I agree with AnnaBanana, who, I guess is gone? Wow. Clogging the air (screen) with one opinion after another is just, well, to be frank, adolescent. Sure, you can do it. But, you are just using iReport for talking to your friends, not for actually trying to do some decent attempt at journalism. I suppose if iReport wants to be used that way, they won't care. Certainly, I skip certain posters completely now due to their predictable opinionating and "in-crowd" navel gazing.
Great Job Ireport Staffers..the new stuff is great!! I especially love the new profile stats!
Profile stats a nice added feature. Good job.
Hi All: I love the upgrades on the profile stats.
I just wonder a bit about taking off the rating stars. Everyone uses them, youtube, you name it... They are particularly useful for people who do not want to leave comments. Comments are not necessarily a good way to measure position in a list as a way for users to get some idea of the quality of the content. They may be useful for assessing "controversial" content... not sure on that. So, like luvwilsaveus, I will miss being able to rate and have a way of generally assessing content quality quickly.
I am not sure what the criteria is for the CNN stamp of approval (how they vet the iReports), but a lot of the time, it does seem to not hinge on the quality of content, but some other factors that I don't really understand yet (I am kind of newbie and generally, I am just sharing my ducky world with everyone -- so who I am to quack about quality of content... I suppose)
Anyway, IMHO, it is a good sign that the CNN folks are always thinking about how to improve iReports. Kudos!
Super job! I like the profile upgrades!
sounds like some positive changes. thanks!
thanks i like this new non rating system keep the great changes thanks David and Cnn
Thank You....It's nice to be heard.....
I think comments are better than stars for props to me
I feel if you think someone is "clogging the airwaves", pass them by, ignore them, don't view or comment if you don't like it. Let people be as long as they are not violating anything.
If some one wants to rate they still can just by saying 5 stars..I tried to see if I could do it with this **** . But it didn't work! :)
I'm personally glad stars are not going to be an issue anymore.
I will be happy to see the problem of having comments deleted for no reason just because someone doesn't like something that is said..When that happens it changes the entire post and doesn't make sense to the person commenting next or just before.. I would also like to see that this little group that does this to not be able to do it anymore..including the removal of posts which has been happening over the past couple of weeks or so. If we cannot comment freely without the worry of our comment being removed then what is the point? People who have multiple ID's are a problem too as has been stated on this site for weeks now as well..One Id for each person..is that so difficult?
I like the changes so far. Noticed you have to give a REASON for reporting an iReporter. Cool!
gilldreams
I agree about the deleted comments.. And only being able to have one ID...
Oooo! The SuperStars just came back, and I see the new Staff badge! Nice!
Gilldreams Part of the revolving ID problem may be due to people logging on at public internet cafes with no fixed IP addresses. Let's hope CNN will be able to do something about that soon!
I lost mine..so I made my own! thats what sylvester is looking at now..! :)
Dreaming of what used to be~!! :)
superstars just came back??? those didn't go anywhere did they?? mmmmm
Hey Martot, did you report someone and see this new REASON for reporting an irepoter?? missed that one..how do you see that ??
Margot I must be from the dark ages..I had no idea that people logging on at public internet cafes etc could just log on under any old id they want..I thought if you are on this site under an ID then that is it no matter where you log on from..like on vacation or someone's else's house etc..wow..best I get with it lol thanks
Well there were comments made here and now they are gone along with the people who made them! That is rediculous..this is supposed to be a place to be open on everything...why would those comments be taken off??
What is "Report Violation" for??????
wonder how often stats update
I wonder that too ky42, because it's not current
I just went and viewed 5 post and went back and nothing
was added
Hey there - the stats don't update immediately, there's a bit of a lag.
I think the changes are fantastic..I do have one suggestion though, when anyone views your report, it counts as one view even if they view it several times, so, when someone comments on their own report, it only seems fair that only one of theire comments should count, some comment over and over and over again therefore upping the comment count.
Great stuff! Thanks!
All our comments are gone. Thanks for the new features.
Hmm ... something's not quite right. Investigating what happened to all the comments. Not sure why, but I find that I see them when I log in.
Keep up the good work Lila_Lou... :)
They are gone at our roundtable blog as well. Thanks lila
Maybe staff see them and ireporters don't??? why would the entire meeting be gone?? I hope it is all returned with ALL the comments made by everyone.
I love the stats on the profile page!
Thanks for taking our suggestions!
I <3 iReporting!
Nice work. After a week or so I can already see the difference around here. It will be nice to have a new rating system so we can find the more interesting reports without having to go through so many pages to find the diamonds in the rough.
Another nice addition would be the ability to block users from sending you a personal message. There are some people that really have a problem with this. Being harrassed through PM can be real annoying.
