The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
Like many iReporters, Jason Rogers is concerned with the issue of health care.
It’s a personal issue for him because his father was diagnosed with brain cancer four years ago. His family decided to fight the disease with everything they had, and he’s concerned that such measures might not be possible under a public health care system.
CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta addressed Rogers’ question on “American Morning,” but he also took the extra step of bringing it to the attention of the White House. Watch Gupta’s response, as well as the one from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue here. Do you have a question or concern about health care reform? Post your video here. You never know who might respond to it.
great post thanks so much hhanks and Jason
Thank you, Jason, Henry Hanks, CNN and Dr.Sanjay Gupta for taking up this very important issue. We need this dialogue on a regular basis with those that make the decisions about health care's future!
This is despicable. I can't believe everyone who gets arrested thinks it because of their skin color. At Mr. Gates' arrest, there was a black cop there too. Does that mean the black sergeant who was there was racially profiling Mr. Gates???
Thanks Jason for the question and the post. The follow up that is needed is this. Can they guarantee this issue? It is very easy to say that there will be no rationing, but when costs continue to climb, then what will they do. We are suppose to trust them? And another point is who "they" are. By the time we really feel the impact of this reform, the current "they" will be long gone. And might I add that the current "they" will still have their government paid health insurance even if they are no longer in Congress.
I have just been watching the news this morning after few months out of the country. This is not really an answer to your post exactly, but the is only place I found to express the words that are caught up in my throat.
Lets, see… how can I start explaining how MAD I’m to the fact that people can be so selfish, and uneducated not to support public and universal health. They refer to it as if it is for the “poor,” who by the way do have the same right to health services than anyone else and those who have been more fortunate for whatever the reason are in the moral obligation to give a hand… and don’t forget you could always be in the other side of the coin. I think the crises have proven one more time this very simple truth: “everything changes.” However, I must say I’m not “poor;” I have 2 university degrees (US History and Journalism), and a career as an actress that has lasted a life-time. Unfortunately, I now find myself without insurance, because of two years of strikes and crisis in the entertainment business has left me without work even before the real crisis started, and is not the first time this happens to me, and many other union actors. I’m terrified of getting sick. Only a regular yearly gynecologist checkup cost me almost $200 dollars.
When I did had an “excellent” insurance coverage, one day I end up in the ER for two small cuts on my fingers, I just got 5 stitches on each finger and the accident cost $3000 dollars from which $700 came out of my pocket, even with my “wonderful” insurance. Can you call that logical or fair, or good??? $3000 dollars for 10 stitches, and 40 min of medical care? It is just RIDICULOUS!!!!!. Every time I tell the story to my European friends their eyes show so much disbelief that I feel embarrassed to what we have become. Is impossible, unbearable and unbelievable that in a country like ours people have to be worry about dying or going bankrupt because they have not insurance.
I was just in Spain for 3 months, and I got sick and had to go to the ER. I walked in afraid of what could that meant to my pocket. I was taken care of on less than 20 min. Within 40 min I was walking out of the hospital, asking what next?… thinking “where is the bill that will ruin my time in this wonderful country.” To my surprise they just said, “have they seen you already?” “Yes” I said, and that was followed up with, “then you are done.” Yes, I’m a foreigner, who walked into a great hospital, with not insurance and got medical treatment for FREE. That is what I call public and universal health. In Spain, like in many other countries in the world, people who can afforded a private insurance also have such, with the difference of course that if I wanted to have it, it’s also affordable -60 euros a month for full coverage-. Yet, those of us that for whatever the reason couldn’t afforded didn’t have to be worry that their lives and finances would be in danger if they got sick, or God forbid even pregnant. I think is time to stop believing we know it all and start learning from others.
Until the 70s’ California had free health and mental care, and free education all the way to college. The country has done it before, or at least California, but people are too afraid of a government doing its job. Health is our right, Doctors swore they would save lives, they didn’t swear they would only do it if the patient paid thousands of dollars. When I go to my Doctor in other countries they ask me how I’m doing, and my family, and take the time to know who I am, and what my needs are, here many Doctors have change or have been forced to change humanity for dollars, and to find one that really cares can be almost has difficult as to being able to afford health insurance unless the company you work for provides it… and all of us don’t live in the corporate world.
Wake-up, governments are here not only to fight wars, they are here to protect their people and provide them with basic needs like health and education, so step aside an let them do what we hire them for, stop trying to do their job. This government is not interested in killing their elderly; they are interested in saving people’s lives, not just your or my life, but also million of others. Or we just rather a government that is only interested in the growth of drug companies wealth like before. If you think that is only you that matters, well think it twice. Remember the only truth is that nothing last forever, and you as me could always be in the other side of the coin.
I retired in april and am now on medicare Blue Cross of Florida. I have been in Michigan this summer being with family. I was diognoised with a Severe Frozen Shoulder.I was OK'd by the insurance to have a procedure done to take care of it. At the last minute the insurance called and denied it saying it was not a emergency even though I was in severe pain. They did pay for the doctor to give me three drugs, rotobaxin, vicodin and valium. Is medical care about drugs or cure? I am taking these drugs and now have less pain but having side affects.I worry because I can not use my arm with out Pain.
I don't see why the healthcare issue is so hard to resolve. As a mom, I have my own ideas.

SUPPORT HEALTHCARE NOW OR BE VERY SORRY LATER:
The majority of American People want Healthcare for all Americans. It is imperative that you support the Presidents Healthcare Reform for the following reasons:
1. IN THE FUTURE MORE PEOPLE WILL LOSE JOBS AND NEED HEALTHCARE:
Many of the middle class Republicans who are not super wealthy will need public healthcare in six months; because they do not know it yet; but after Christmas or around Christmas they will be losing their jobs. In some families were this person is the bread winner for the entire family; that means entire families will lose healthcare as well. These Republicans in about 6-12 months will regret ever opposing public healthcare. We are in a depression; we have been in a depression since the last year Bush was in office. No one wants to use the D word (depression). The media says the economy is turning around only so that Americans do not go into a panic about the truth.
2. IF BABIES ARE REGISTERED IN PUBLIC HEALTHCARE; IT WILL HELP TRACK CHILD KILLERS:
In England some parents who have killed their children only got caught; because the government got suspicious that the children were not registered in any kind of health insurance anywhere. When the police came to investigate some cases like this; they discovered some of these parents had killed their children and buried them at various old addresses.
3. A GREATER WORK THAN JESUS:
The United States is a predominantly Christian Country. Jesus only healed a few people during his ministry. The Bible says that; we would be able to do greater works than Jesus. Well, I say this providing healthcare/healing to an entire nation is a much greater work than Jesus did; which makes that scripture 100% correct. Jesus would support healthcare for people. Jesus believed in healing and caring for people. Christians should be like Jesus or will they be hypocrites and not support healthcare for all Americans. Going to church every Sunday means nothing; when you are a political Judas Monday through Saturday!
4. HEALTHCARE IS A MATTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY:
Right now the Centers for Disease Control CDC (not the military) are the main force in charge of biohazard, chemical, and viral warfare response on American Soil and to American Citizens. According to a Centers for Disease Control Employee; whom I spoke with outside of The Georgia Perimeter College Town Hall Meeting on Healthcare Reform on 8/10/09 between the hours of 7:00pm to 9:00pm; the Centers for Disease Control can respond full force to any Biohazard, Chemical, and Viral Warfare Attack on American People/Land within 12 hours. Now as a Veteran/Ex-Soldier of the United States Navy, I learned that there are Biohazards, Chemicals, and Viral Warfare Elements that can kill between 1/3 to 1/4 of an entire city or a whole city in some smaller American cities in less than 3 hours. While the Centers for Disease Control is playing catch up and trying to get in position to decontaminate and treat people in the city hit with an attack; there is going to be a 9 hour difference in time that lives will be loss. None soldiers call this 9 Hour time difference "an acceptable level of loss." As a soldier, we were never taught, that before we can defend and protect the United States; we had to wait until an “acceptable" amount of citizens died. We were taught as soon as the enemy attacks; we start to defend, secure, and protect the country in fact the military never stops this. Defending the country is a 24 hour job to members of the military. Does anybody think that any of the relatives of the dead from the 9/11 Twin Towers incident feels that their loved one was an "acceptable level of loss"? If we have government healthcare; then we could have soldiers assigned to Hospitals and the Centers for Disease Control; so the terrorist would not have a 9 hour jump that translates into more dead Americans from Chemical, Biohazard, and Viral Warfare if an attack occurs.
5. SAY NO NOW AND NOT BE A SENATOR LATER:
Next Election Many Republican Senators who barely got in office this election. Will not be re-elected next election. This will cause the Senate to be over 70% Democratic. It can happen no one ever thought The United States would have a Black President; now that we do trust me anything is possible now. We will get the health build passed with or without the Republicans if; we have to vote the all out of office we will.
Respectfully,
Minister Libby Hodges
The current healthcare bills all have a sliding scale rule (see HR3200, all of page 5 emphasis on lines 9 and 10 "includes sliding scale affordability credits"), meaning some folks will pay more than others for their healthcare. This is Marxism. Are we headed for United Marxist States of America? It's beyond socialism.
Cash for Clunkers? Where's the cash coming from? From you, taxpayer! The government is stealing your money and giving it to someone else.
