The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
We hope you'll join us for our weekly roundtable discussion today in the blog. We'll be talking about a collaborative art project we're planning.
A lot of iReporters are already working together on their own collaborations, so we want to do something big that harnesses the power of our community to do something awesome.
This is a project we've wanted to do for a while and we're excited to hear your ideas.
If you think this is something you'd like to do you can sign up at project@iReport.com.
We'll open comments at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Hi everyone, hope you're all having a good week.
Hello fellow iReportarians! :) Happy Thursday!
Heya everyone!
Hello, what's the new project? :)
It's another hot Thursday in NYC. But hopefully no more storms.
such a slow start today....
@mcintron -- That's what we want to talk about. We've been wanting to do a big project that involves as many iReporters as possible to create something cool.
I wanted to get a feel for what sort of things the community would be interested in.
Where is everyone? Am i the only one here? If it wasn't for twitter reminder i would have missed this meeting.
@KyleHD -- I'm sure people will make it in due time. How did your iReport meetups go over the weekend?
It was good, a lot of people canceled last minute for both the city and suburb meetings, but they went good.
hello everyone
It is kind of weird that so many people aren't here yet. I even remembered to post a reminder post last night. Oh well, we can go ahead and get started.
One of our writers did a story on some really cool projects that we've been inspired by.
Here's the link if you haven't had a chance to check it out http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/08/19/online.collaborative.art/index.html
@Davidw, you mention that a lot of ireporters are working on their own collaborations, what are some of them?
Hi ky42!
Ha, ha, we posted at the same time...great minds think alike, @davidw.
Here's a couple of examples:
We had iReporters in Israel, Paris, New York and Los Angeles work together on a story about falafels http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-305886
Here's another example that came in yesterday
http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-315503
Those are just two that I could find really quickly, it's been really cool to see people working together
I like the second one's idea...'where i live' as a collaborative it would be amazing to get input from all around the world.
I suppose you'd want to limit the number of photos or video clip time to seconds each person contributes? I always find setting a limit helps me and besides with so many contributors...
@mcintron -- What would we ask people to do, or show?
We want to get everyone to do the same thing so we can see the differences between people.
For example each person contributes ONE picture that defines for them where they live... or a 15 second video clip. That would be quite a challenge.
what about cars,houses,trees
@mcintron -- I'm not sure that made sense, but to give an example: If we said show us your dinner, we would get different responses from someone in Tokyo than you would from a person in Des Moines
Hi, what about connecting iReporters in sister cities around the globe, have them explain how their cities are a like and also show through pictures or video how the cities are a like.
Or... you could decide to highlight almost anything, for instance, photo or video of a social problem where you live that defines it in one shot? I dunno...just thinking out loud.
we talked about it a little when i was down there but what if.........we all took the same object, or maybe we could print it out, and we hold it in front of us and say why we ireport and pass the object along and then someone else "grabs" it.
Maybe something light would be great, since all the news lately is so depressing.
excellent, thinking out loud is what we're going for.
@natashabisho -- That could be really cool. Maybe have them show something about their city?
Hello everyone how are you
KyleHD, the logistics of doing that seems daunting to me. But then again...how about each iReporter poses in front of an object where they live...
@KyleHD -- That would be fun.
Hi larena and natashahibosho.
Yeah, like for example I live in los angeles, apparently we have a ton of sister cities: http://www.lacity.org/sistercities/ So maybe I connect with someone in Busan, South Korea and we explore (together) how our cities are similar through pictures, words and video. It could also show how deeply connected we all really are.
davidw I want to collaborate as much as I can with the art project how is my question I posted one yesterday a collage and I guess it wan`t what you are looking for
Ky42's idea... photos of modes transportation in your city or town?
Hi mcintron
hi mcintron
I would love to do something with people from different parts of the world
Let each per show a few things they think the world show know about the city they live in. Every city has some sort of attraction that people are proud of..
Am i correct in assuming it would be better to make each contribution as short as possible in order to build a more viewable whole? Or it doesn't matter?
@larena -- We haven't settled on an idea yet. There are dozens of cool things that we could do so we're trying to come up with something that will be awesome.
david thanks please let me know I tried to registered on the link and no luck thanks again
@mcintron -- Once we get the idea firmed up we'll give specific instructions.Right now we're still brainstorming.
We have tons of street musicians in NYC, and i suppose there are performers of all kinds elsewhere. How about filming street performers around the world? With their permission, of course.
david I loved Marie Saeger posts art in the streets those are great to me
That would serve two purposes, give the performers exposure and create some cool art.
How about doing something with faces?
Each I reporter could make a 5 second or so video of their face, it could shoe going from a frown to a smile, or some thing like that. When you line them up and play them real fast... The Faces of I-Reporters.
well send you all kisses take care and have a great weekend larena and jeke
Hey everyone. Trevor Dougherty at your service!
@mcintron -- There's been a lot of interest in street performers. We're going to have to do that at some point.
Cute idea, DaElmer! lol
@maddogza - Hey Trevor, how's life in your part of the world? Where ever that is these days.
An I-Reporter "blowing" a kiss to the world..
daelmer that sounds great to me so everyone can share how they look like without avatars
Anyone else watching Obama's live forum?
http://www.barackobama.com/forum/live.html
Hi Trevor!
@everyone -- Trevor did a really cool project with about a dozen iReporters before the election. I just found the link http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-112972
They would play so fast you would be able to really make out a face, but you would see the different features of people from around the world.
Then again, many ireporters may prefer to remain anonymous so they couldn't participate...
@DaElmer -- I like that idea. that could be cool.
Davidw- something like that but I was thinking if there was a way for the I-Reporters to send you a picture or short vid, you could edit them into each other.
That election collaboration is really neat, Trevor. Nice work.
@DaElmer -- That's what we're planning to do. In fact one of our producers is just finishing up a musical tribute to Les Paul that edits a bunch of guitar players into one song.
It's awesome and is scheduled to publish tomorrow.
Was just reading the stuff you guys talked about before I got here...
KyleHD - your "object" idea sounds good. It is reminiscent of the big collaborative video which Gmail users created a while back.
Everyone check it out here: http://mail.google.com/mail/help/gmail_video.html
Howzabout this idea - let's do a collaborative video, including as many iReporters as possible, with the purpose of it being used in a new intro sequence for "iReport for CNN" on CNN International! No better way to make the show truly interactive.
@davidw - I'm in Albuquerque, NM, right now...back to Swaziland in a few weeks.
If you could separate 12 faces to one shot on the screen and keep switching faces making faces, that would really be cool.
hi all... i'm new-ish. and interested in collaborating always.
@maddogza that was cool
Hello vectorlyme, welcome!
@vectorlyme -- Welcome. I'm happy to see that there are a lot of new people here today.
As a bit of a side topic, how did y'all hear about today's meeting?
Twitter :)
Twitter reminded me. I always forget so this is only my 2nd meeting.
I just know that it is every thur day
Trevor! That's a really cool video! I like that. I'm down for it!
Twitter is the new party line. Gotta scram ya'll. Looking forward to seeing what the first colab project with be!
I heard about it via KyleHD twitter... been going to the local meetups he's been having. fun fun. can't wait to do more!
@KyleHD -- Thanks for spreading the word. I saw your tweet too.
Well, i have to run too. Places to go, groceries to buy. LOL
@davidw it's my job right now! haha. I really need more to do!
@everyone -- Before I forget -- here's the email address to sign up for this project@iReport.com
See y'all next week and i look forward to the project! :) Byeeeee!
I tweeted it too... lol
K' David, thanks! Bye for now!
Thanks mc, ky, and Kyle - it was fun to make that video.
So, @everyone, what do we think about giving this big collab project a purpose? David - do you think that the producers would be down to create a new title sequence...created by iReporters?
@everyone -- I'm going to make a list of all of your ideas and send it around to our producers so we can discuss them.
Thanks for your awesome suggestions.
My wife is always telling me I'm full of great idea's, just don't know what to do with them. Glad I could help brainstorming...
@DaElmer this is a great place to share your ideas.....lots of creative people to bounce ideas around with!
@maddogza -- It's a great idea, so I'll send it along to our producers. It would be great to do at some point even if we don't do it for this project.
@KyleHD Thanks.. I try, sometimes not my best, but I do try. CNN liked my last report for the soldiers so I'm doing something right.
