The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
It's Thursday, so that means it's time for our weekly iReport roundtable discussion.
We love talking to you about the great things that are going on in the community, so if you're working on a cool project, tell us about it. The meeting also is a chance for you to ask any questions you might have and to discuss your concerns.
We'll open comments today at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Hi everyone,
Hope you're having a good week.
hello :)
hola
Hi Davidw!!! Hi Kyle!!!
what's going on?
Nice to see our favorite news rapper
How are y'all doing?
Don't have much to update on my situation as of yet, but remaining very positive through my whole experience AND exactlly one year ago today, I retired from trucking officially.
Glad to see you staying positive Millis
While we're waiting for crowd to gather, how's everyone doing?
I hope to be able to continue on with my ireports but seems there a bit of a concern.
@Millis Like Henry said, glad you're keeping your head up.
Kind of boring and depressing weather going on here in Chicago. And i'm having a creativity block, i need some help to kick something up!
@KyleHD sorry to hear that. Got any meetups scheduled?
am I also the ONLY news rapper?
Hello all, great weather in NYC. Hope it lasts!
My concern is, that it seems like lately that a couple of reports didn't make it to the main portion of the site, might be my end too but just wondered should I go through the main portion of Ireport, or try sending them through our Second Life link???
@davidw i'm working on it, hopefully i'll have something planned by next week
Hey guys, how are you?
hehehehe, Kyle, partly sunny, humid here in Tennessee!!!
Hey Nicole! I haven't called you in over 2 days.... are you going through withdrawl?
@mcintron -- glad to hear someone's having good weather. welcome
@ Nicole, I could tell there was some tension at the slireport meeting yesterday.
@davidw Well, it's quite a change for us. It's been a summer of thunder and lightning. lol
@Nicole again, for that I do apologize.
Hi all
these meetings seem to be getting smaller and smaller....
Afternoon all!
Any news on the project?
@Millis I hope you're doing well. I know things have been a little tough for you. Just wanted to let you know, I wrote up a blog post which I'll be posting later this afternoon to thank everyone for their great responses and hard work. I think we're still working out some kinks and trying to get things figured out. I'm really proud of what everyone has done. The content is better than ever.
@everyone -- I guess we can go ahead and open things up. Looks like we're getting a pretty good crowd.
I guess my first question would be, do y'all still find these meetings useful?
Are there things we could do to make these meetings more valuable to you?
Hi Ryn, EWillies, nasaidi, Asiegel...
@Asiegel202 -- shoutout, homie g. I thought your news rap was pretty cool. You should do more, maybe once a week or something. If you want. Maybe we can find a way to show it off.
But, good things must always keep on rollin', and I gotta go get ready for then next couple hours of "virtual dancing at a club"...shortly, LOL!!!!
I think the meetings are important if even to listen for direction and what others are doing. Sometimes just listening is enough.
@mcintron are you talking about street art?
Yes I feel the meetings are most useful.
It is good to touch base.
@David, I enjoy them, gives a fresh insite to what everybody is reporting elsewhere.
@Nicole, where will it be at so I can look??
is there a specific topic you'd like to discuss?
@davidw This is only my 3rd meeting so i don't have much in the way of suggestions. Just wondering if there is a 'topic' every week or if it's always an open forum type thing?
@davidw I enjoy them. I think it would be cool if we could talk with more producers, photographers, reporters, anchors, and anyone else really. I think we all enjoyed talking with Jessica Ellis a few weeks ago.
hello i made it
@nsaidi... Sweet.. i will start doing it once a week... you can call it The Weekly "Rap" Up (creative huh)summarizing the weeks top stories...
@naidi, yes, i was referring to the street art project.
@Nicole, who???
@Millis the blog entry will be at the top of the iReport blog -- which is what you're reading an entry from right now.
@Ryn, EWillies -- Cool, we plan to keep doing the meetings, but as Kyle mentioned, the group is getting smaller.
Would another time or day be better? Or more advanced notice?
hi ekk
Hi ekkekkorecor.
Hi ekkekkorecor
Hiya ky42 =)
@zdan....hmm interesting. thanks!
My last question about topics to discuss was a general call for everyone.
hey Ryn mcintron and everybody!
@Nicole ah ok!!! I'll check it after I get done with my virtual dancing in a couple hours, keep those reports coming!!! See ya next week!!!
@ davidw I think puting ireport roundtable meeting on the ireport page would be better than blog
Street art project, wondering if there's any news on that one?
A lot of folks especially newbies don't know about the community blog. Maybe advanced notice on front ireport page the evening before and day of the roundtable.
@davidw i think right now, everyone is just busy maybe with the ending of summer and people starting school. it might be better if they were later in the day. I was actually thinking about that yesterday and was thinking about all the people that have work during the day that might not be able to participate.
I think it may be the summer doldrums. The time is fine but it does not matter to me as I am in front of a computer 12-16 hours a day. Quite a few just listen I've been told.
Hey Hank you there?? Hope you are well
@ky42 -- that would be good, but we don't currently have a way to do that. That might have given me an idea though. I'll have to do some thinking on it.
Posting it on twitter is what reminds me. But i always wonder if the middle of the day is good for everyone. I'm not working now, but i could not attend these meetings when i was working.
@nsaidi yea, did you guys figure out the collaboration project yet? or are you still figuring everything out?
@Ryn that's a good idea as I have been here for a while and I emailed everybody because I did not kow how it worked
Yes thank you, ekkekkorecor.
Hi sorry I am late how are you all
@mcintron -- I usually do a twitter reminder on Wednesday night and then another one Thursday around noonish when the blog post is ready.
Would it be helpful to do it more often, or would that be annoying?
@ david you could put it on the assignment page also
@Larena Hey friend, yw @Hank
I didn't notice a reminder up top ireports today.
that really helps.
@nsaidi, i like that direction a lot. :)
street art is a great idea
I wanted to know about about registration. I sent an email but there was no response. How do we know we're registered?
@Ryn -- That's a good suggestion. I'll try to start posting a site announcement at the top of the page on Wednesday nights
hi Ryn ekke and all the great staff of cnn
hi david w hhanks nsaid kathie and more
@mcintron -- do you mean for the collaborative project?
and zdan
G'Day Larena
@davidw, i think you're doing it just right on twitter. More would be annoying. :)
do you have any fun assignments that you'll be posting soon?
nsaidi
Exactly what type of street art are you loking for?
David W how can I delete a video I was crying after Senator Kennedy died and my mom fell down and broke her ankle and I would like to take it of is their a way can you tell me please how to delete a post thanks larena
I have a suggestion for an assignment, it has to do with cultures as Ireport is worldwide we can learn more about the diversity of the people that post on Ireport, just a suggestion
@davidw, yes, i registered but didn't get any confirmation.
@KyleHD -- We've always got assignments in the works. You caught me a little unprepared, but we try to keep having fun stuff
Any thoughts on next photo club assignment so we can get started?
@larena -- send me the link and I'll take care of it.
@larena -- PM me the link and I'll take care of it
1. What about the talent show idea. We haven't talked about that in awhile. 2. As a group what if we did some sort of volunteer work obviously nationwide, and try to make a difference somehow and that could bring attention to iReport.
@mcintron -- we haven't sent any confirmation emails on the project yet. I need to figure out how to do that tomorrow.
Sorry for the confusion - there is a street art project and a collaborative art project. These are separate things.
@nsaidi, i was referring to the collaborative project. What is the street project and how do you get involved?
@davidw, thanks, i'll wait to hear.
@KyleHD -- I love the talent show idea. Thanks for reminder.
The volunteer project is something I'm dying to do.
David w thanks I will I really appreciate It thanks so much I really want it off the air thanks david
Sorry nsaidi
Senior moment
@mcintron -- Just to give a bit of an update on the collaborative project. We're meeting about it next week to try to firm up the plan. I'm sending all of the ideas we collected last week for us to talk about.
That is a great idea, not only a good community service, like KyleHD says good PR for Ireport
@KyleHD
Love that idea. Specific?
@davidw, great, thanks for the update. Can't wait to see what y'all come up with.
@Ryn -- zdan has been working on a story today, so we haven't firmed up the photo club assignment. We'll have it soon.
Thanks davidw
Love that photo club!
What other assignment ideas are you interested in trying or can you think of, everyone?
@ekkekkorecor, KyleHD -- I love the idea of harnessing the power of our community to do something good. We've got 355,000 people, who've registered so that's a huge opportunity.
@Ryn - do you have any suggestions for the next Photo Club assignment?
I suggested one about the diversity of Ireport, like sharing our cultures, foods, traditions etc. i don't maybe it sucks lol nobody commented before =P
@EWillies1961 i'm not sure.....i guess it would depend on whatever wants to do. And I think it would depends on where everyone is as well. But we could do something similar. I just thought of the idea 5 minutes ago, so I have no specifics. haha
@davidw, wow you guys do a great job keeping up with us all!!!
@everyone -- What sort of volunteer projects would you be interested in doing?
What would make you say "I'm going to take part of my valuable time and do _____."?
Also, how would we show it?
@zdan, what about doors for the next photo assignment. People's front doors can tell a lot about a person.
Hello All :)
@KyleHD, i have always loved doors as a subject. Great idea.
Hey Chris!
Kyle I like that idea.
@ekkekkorecor -- That idea doesn't suck at all. In fact it's probably one our favorite things to explore.
Do you have any specific suggestions?
Hi Chris..@davidw, there are always food banks, salvation army has many volunteer services, there's nursing homes, kids in hospitals
@davidw i would say doing something green and cleaning a park, or maybe going to a homeless shelter and helping out there.
@nsaidi
Having an iReport week in review hour show 15min politics, 15 min general interest, 15 minutes world, 15 min anything goes. Producer selects up to 12 iReporters per week to interview over skype in up to 5 min segments about some of their iReporting that week and put together as a web show. I think it will make the site more dynamic as many would jump to get their two cents in.
@davidw, i think everyone volunteering for different things may be the way to go on that one, because each city/town/country has unique needs and opportunities.
@ChrisMorrow - Hi, good to hear from you.
zdan You know I love animals
How about silly pet photos?
@davidw Well like Larana is Latin, I am German, I would like to know more about her culture, foods, art, places, traditions you stuff like that
@EWillies -- That would be a heck of a good show. We'll probably have to work up to that, but I would love it.
Yes and we have Shari (sunethra) in Sri Lanka and ander in Iceland. There are so many.
That is a great idea Ryn, we all love our pets! Mine have been Ireported already, including the invading pet Mr spider lol
@Ryn, zdan. I was thinking about 'pets' but didn't want to say it. lol Glad you mentioned it, if not now for future photo club.
photo idea - recipes
a photo of your favorite dish and then tell us how to make it.
something similar to this...
http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-230438
What do you think?
Doesn't even have to be pets, but maybe funny photos we have taken of animals during travels.
@chris that could go with the culture idea i had
Maybe it doesn't have to be 'pets' specifically, but 'animal' which would open it up to people who don't own pets.
@Ryn, 'great minds think alike'. ;)
yes Ekkekkorecor!
and it could be a fun promo for the holiday season by turning all the reports into a digital iReporter cookbook. :)
@ChrisMorrow -- That's another of our favorite ideas. The cheap and tasty meals thing we did was a lot of fun.
We also had a guy in the early days of iReport.com who would send a photo of his lunch along with the recipe.
I learned how to make a killer fried rice.
lol mcintron
Great minds!
@everyone - What about something a little more challenging? Like take a photo that represents something. Don't know what that something is just yet. Ideas?
@Ryn Budget Travel had silly pet photo's on vacation in their magazine this month. it was pretty funny!
@zdan
I like word association:
Love
Hate
Racist
fun
etc.
Would be a nifty collage of them together.
i don't know if you guys saw my twitter post earlier, but i posted a link from this blog i read, and it had there crazy pictures of food made into something else. Very creative. You should look! http://www.likecool.com/Bento_Box
FoodBody.htmlChris
What a wonderful idea.
I love the holiday idea, for fall, Halloween, Thanks giving, and Christmas , International holidays.
@zdan, well, in light of Senator Kennedy's death, maybe a photo that represents 'service' to our country or to others?
Thanks Ryn. :)
Give us an example zdan
Labor Day is coming up.
Maybe something to tie in with that.
Love the bento boxed @kylehd :)
@davidw, is there any way to change screen names?? Mine is cut off actually it's supposed to say records not recor
@Ryn -- zdan stepped away, but i think she was thinking about something along the lines of what ChrisMorrow was thinking -- hope, comfort, despair -- or something like that.
I think ideally, the assignment would encourage folks to go out and flex creative muscles -- so it would be great to try something people probably wouldn't already have in their photo album
@zdan...or how about 'concert' photos? It's a challange to get good concert pictures. I'm an avid concert goer myself. lol
You would have to create a new account.
@ChrisMorrow aren't those super cool!?
I'd love to see many iReports at one event and see how each one reports it.
Would be FANTASTIC :)
Oh ok David. I like that too!
@ekkekkorecor -- unfortunately we don't have a way to change account names without creating a new account.
I wondered what your user name meant. It is fun to say though.
ok thanks davidw
iReporters (oops typo)
Let me know what I can do to help out with organizing that! :)
LOL @davidw, it is my record label cut short =P
@davidw and zdan, Chris. Gotcha. Those are really good photo ideas. I love those kinds of photo assignments.
Peace to all I have to run, will read rest of the posts later..you all have a blessed day!!!!!
Thanks everyone. I've got to run to another meeting, so take care.
bye david!
'K, have a great day everyone!
ciao all!
Bye y'all!
hope everyone has a great week! :)
Hello everyone. Sorry I missed the meeting again. It's just very hard for me to attend in the middle of the day when I'm busy at work.
As for the Photo Club...more challenging assignments that actually focus on the technical aspect of photography, including photo editing, would be great, in my opinion. There's no challenge to setting a camera to automatic and snapping off a picture of a pretty subject. yawn How about experimenting with various settings and techniques, i.e., motion blur, night photography, neon signs, infrared, panoramic, high speed, macro, shadows, black and white, ambient light, smoke, etc.
sorry I missed too.
I like joyful's idea.
telephoto, fisheye, motion shots.
the technical aspect brings up a cool angle that is possibly educational/informative?
double exposures? experimental photos,..
break out those old film SLRs?
black and white?
anyhow, I will do my best to be here next week.
P E A C E !
@macintron - concert photos sound great, in theory, however, any concert I've gone to allows only simple point and shoot cameras. My Nikon D90 would never make it in the theater. Lets try to make the Photo Club more challenging, technically, and a learning experience...
EWillies1961 I like your idea about a skype I-Reporter show. Very cool
facebook virud video starts with "WOW" don't open this thing.here is the unpublished customer service number 8004699689
Is this archived somewhere? I'd like to view it if possible.
thx
