The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
We'll be holding our weekly iReport roundtable at a new time starting today, so we hope you'll join us here at 3 p.m. ET.
One of the things I'd like to talk about today is what can we do to help new users feel welcomed in the community. We'll also be happy to discuss any questions or concerns you have.
We will open comments at 3 p.m. ET.
Hi everyone,
Hope you're doing well today.
Are you seeing the video with kid floating in the ballon?
@adriana71 yes, we're watching it now. very odd.
Oh by the way Hi, how is everyone doing?
@adriana71 -- It's busy, but things are going great. How about yourself.
That kids if he's in there is having the ride of his life. I hope he lands ok.
Hi everyone! Happy Thursday!
It's scary.
I'm doing well, by husband Andy just had sinus surgery. He is currently in recovery nauseus
Good afternoon everyone
Hey Kyle,
How's new job treating you. We're so happy for you.
Welcome Jeff, glad you could make it.
hey everyone
Thanks David. What's on the agenda today?
@Asiegel1202 -- Good to see you. Loved the dancercize video.
Hi all
So what's new in the wonderful world of iReports?
thanks! I think i speak for all of us in saying we would love to see the "i-report" team attempt dancersizing on video.....
So does anyone have anything they want to talk about while everyone's making their way in?
@davidw thanks! Work is good. Working on the company's first video blog at this very moment!
@Asiegel202 Everyone does one dance move and then merge them together.
The "graveyard" assignment came in at the right time. I took my son to Arlington last Saturday. My story will not have a Halloween theme obviously, but I have some good pictures and I hope an intersting story to write.
Have you seen TheWarden's IReport awards?
I think it is a great idea.
@Ryn: No, I haven't. What is TheWarden up to?
@everyone -- So one of the things that I wanted to ask y'all about is what sort of things should we be doing to welcome new iReporters and encourage them to do quality, original work.
I guess my question is what has encouraged all of you to stay with iReport and what do you think we could have done better?
@Ryn -- I have seen the awards. I think the clear winner is iReport, because we have so many talented people participating in our community.
@jeffpickens -- I'll look forward to seeing your story. I'm sure it will be very moving.
I think TheWarden has an idea. Maybe monthly awards in different areas will allow folks to put some umf in the reports with a yearly online blast...
@davidw: I think the best thing is to comment. Positive feedback is a great motivator.

Hope these are the right ones
@EWillies1961 -- We're working on some new ways to recognize iReporters' outstanding work. It's near the top of the list of things we want to tackle.
And maybe give mention of the awards on CNN/HLN which may encourage more to report.
@Ryn: thanks for posting. I will have to nominate myself LOL
I noticed that my videos lose sound quality once they are uploaded. Has anyone else experienced such?
@ChrisKohatsu -- I thought the audio sounded pretty good when we listened to it this morning. I loved your bakery video, though it made me hungry. Welcome to iReport
BTW, David, Henry has been such a fast and responsive producer! That's really encouraging to me, who just joined yesterday.
Maybe rotating front ireporter page more often and giving all superstars a chance, regardless of hits or CNN logos.
I thought that was the point of changing it way back when. There were complants about same faces continuously in the same spots, when oldtimers held the same positions forever.
@ChrisKohatsu -- Henry's a treasure. We're lucky to have him. I'll make sure he sees that.
@Ryn -- Thanks for the suggestion. We'll look at that again.
@DavidW - thanks so much! What a wonderful site... I have many friends and colleagues who will now be joining in... So, as far as feedback on improving the community experience... do you offer paid assignments? I think lots of people would be interested in that! :)
David
What about Halloween posts that were submitted before
Extreme Halloween was assigned?
Many of us already posted our best Halloween during the signs of fall assignment, or under offbeat.
Can these be moved under Extreme Halloween, less they are lost forever?
@ChrisKohatsu -- We don't offer paid assignments, but I have heard of people who have been able to leverage their iReport experiences into paid gigs or better freelance rates.
@ChrisKohatsu: It's always exciting to get that call from CNN! Welcome to the iReport community
Hello everyone! I love being able to report on newsworthy events. Living in the D.C. area can certainly provide plenty of opportunities to do so. I felt welcome right from the start. Having email replies following an upload, or follow-up questions and invitations to come back after some absence certainly have helped.
@sckales -- I'm glad to hear it. Those flu shot lines were amazing. Were you able to get the vaccine?
WHOA! did you all just see that balloon landing?
@KyleHD -- Hope the kid's okay
Thanks David, thanks Jeff! :) My only other suggestion is perhaps to get iReport on Google Wave.
@ChrisKohatsu -- We'll have to get a beta invite first. But that might be a brilliant idea.
I don't fully understand what all the Google Wave can do, but it could be a good collaborative tool.
alrighty guys, i'm head back to work! talk to you guys later! have a great week!
Hi davidw, I didn't plan on getting it, but since I am in close proximity to infants at my wife's daycare and patients at my own work, I was given the mist. My daughter was braver and chose the needle. I'm at work now, so I'll catch up with your posts later. Thanks for the warm welcome and all the good stories. Cheers!
I read that Google Wave is like instant messaging but in real time, as in you see the message as it's being typed
@sckales -- We're glad to have you. We usually meet every week to talk about what's going on.
You can also follow us on twitter at twitter.com/cnnireport or on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ireport
@jeffpickens -- I'll have to play with that.
@everyone -- It's nice talking to everyone. We'll talk to you next week.
Hi Everyone, just got home from a statewide Earthquake drill... how is it going?
Opps, its over... thought there was going to be another hour.
Hello everyone
dang I missed it
hello I am late opps enjoy your weekened
Hi David w I answered your pm did you read it?
can you let me know please? thanks best wishes
A good idea will only last a few months in its original form if consumed by a marketplace. To go the distance, it must be innovated well and often, and by those not instituted by it.
DEEP THOUGHTS...
...lol...
After reading this whole thing it came to me that I have no idea how this "roundtable" could have been of any help to anyone in any way?
Help new users feel welcomed?
Here's my advice on that. It's your house right? So, shouldn't someone from your house i.e. editors/producers be the ones that welcome new users?
This could in no way be put on the shoulder's of the members who have no authority, no real ability to know who is brand new and won't welcome anyone really until they get to know them.
This is the job of the "owners" of the house. If I go to your home for an event, I don't think the neighbor kid doing the welcoming is any good sign of the people I'm coming to see, or want o be envolved with.
Have one of your people say hello on a personal level would be my advice.
I keep missing these!! I think Warden's idea of a personal "Hello" would be a nice touch for new members.
How about highlighting a new member every day? Choose one that submits a post, not just comments.
Maybe ask them 2 or 3 questions about how they got involved, what motivated them to place their first report.
Great ideas Warden and Belly!
Nice to see you here.
Just trying to comment on the boy who was possibly in a balloon in Co. This family has been on the show Wife Swap do you think this was a publicity stunt they were trying to do to get on T.V. again?
