You probably noticed that iReport looks a lot different this morning. We're pretty tickled. Lots more to come about what it means and how it works, but for now please take a look around and let us know what you think in the comments!
i like the red banner but I still love the older way. now no one knows who has got a cnn logo as it has been changed to just a red 'i' and the not vetted on cnn seems to be a little embarrasing to me. when the ON CNN logo came on reports that were vetted on before there was some kind of status symbol in it evven those who did not watch cnn TV here knew what the lgo meant. oh well I guess I will get used to it anyway. and i must not grmble
I guess ky42 means the links you click do not show up in a different color when you go back to the page. So, if you're in the iReports page and click a link to open a story, then you hit back on your browser to go back to the iReports page. The link you clicked does not display different than the others.
and I just noticed the banner where you are telling about changes and join the blog for discussion well I closed it and then map it came up but there was no way to change it back to the banner message
Maybe my problem is Firefox, but I can't find my way around at all -- well, somewhat, but haven't figured how to access the areas I used to find. Guess I'm just old and resistant to change, but I prefer the old. Really don't like the 'not vetted' banner on top of the photos.
1) "not vetted by CNN"... yeah that can be humbling on the face value... Negative energy to say the least....I recommend getting rid of that one.Just say nothing unless it's vetted.
2) Once you log-in..at times I have to refresh the browser to see my profile..Is that a technical issue on my end?
3) Like the BOLD RED color.I think the contents are better organized. At the iReport Home Page, how often do you plan to rotate featured iReports?
4) What happened to the "Most Popular iReports' section that was simply based on a certain calculation??
It looks great but I been tying to upload an iReport for over 40 minutes and it doesn't seem to be working. 40 minutes and it's still telling me it's "uploading file 1 of 10".
1) The link for 'punjabiPower's profile'(UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER) that leads me to some kinda of personal homepage, can easily be confused with my iReport profile.
2) So the iReport section from CNN.COM has been totally eliminated in the new page? BAD MOVE... Without even having the click through stats, i would imagine that iReport grew in recognition and popularity because CNN.COM viewers were able to notice it on the home page. I am referring to the rotating window and the iReport section.
3) Now that I think about it, the new iReport home page is little too busy...
It´s appears brighter and clearer. It definitely grafts the subgroup iReport into CNN mainstream almost as a semi-official division of the CNN News Organization, hence the CNN disclaimer.
I much prefer the old personal IP toolbar that showed my stuff, inbox mail notification etc. It´s all there, but you have to look for it. It is less user friendly than the convenience of just clicking the link.
If the re-design is finished, I expect the preview link here may be the realization of the long wished for edit button for comments in any iReport. I don´t know. I haven´t found a report to comment on this morning except for this. It will be very good if this new preview function has been added.
I've been on automatic pilot with iReport for over a year now, so just a little turned around. Love the Red, the full video option and the CNN video archives of our iReport's (that's real cool).
A few things regarding navigation: I would just enter iReport on Google and that's how I would direct friends as well and iReport does not come up right away, it takes me to the CNN page where there is only a "tiny" logo that says iReport. Hard to locate.
The black bar, "not vetted for CNN" cuts into the picture, distorting the image. It's almost yelling out "Don't look at this iReport". Maybe something a little more subtle. I can understand the "not vetted" but maybe a translucent tag on the bottom.
So many great additions and it will take awhile to look at them all.
I would like to see it easier to find an iReporter. In the old version, I could type in an iReporter´s name in the search box and a message ´no such iReport exists´ would come up. Then I had to click on iReporters, search again, and the person showed up.
No so with this new format. The search bar in the CNN red does not bring me to the option described above but to a totally irrelevant page.
Thanks for great feedback, all. We're collecting and prioritizing everything along with our own list from testing this morning and should have some updates shortly.
Been on the phone this morning with Sjunat55 and Marie Sager...sent off a PM to DavidW with lots of feed-back// recommendations..please check with him...here's a few points we were all in agreement about...
great...full screen option...however all the old visuals pix and videos suffer...too low resolution...so a new challenge for all of us to improve our skills...
also...new & larger maximum file size...I posted a photo today 1.5 MO...no problem...looks pretty good on the full screen...question..what's the max size for an individual photo?
things I/we didn't like...the new "I" logo...the black bar which appears above the posted photo..all the white empty space which appears on the "My Stuff" page..the photos which appear on "My Stuff" page are too small...
The report violation is to close to the read more. I have almost hit it three times already. I think the report violation would be better on the right side so people are not accidently reporting comments by mistake.
After many failed attempts and after over an hour, I was able to post my pictures. However, if I try to link my report to Facebook, the corresponding thumbnail is not available.
Please get rid of the "not vetted by CNN" bar on top.
Two concerns: In the old portal page, Cnn.com, i-reports had a definite presence both on the left tags and the right i-report square. That attarcted people to i-report. This is missing on the new page and it's needed.
I -reports should have an area, just like entertainment, politics, money, health, etc- You can still see the i-report presence on the international version of the page but not on the US. Another concern is the excess of empty white space.
What's with the grid of old stories on the iReport homepage? Where are the new/current stories?
I'm disappointed that iReport has been virtually eliminated from the CNN homepage. If I wasn't an iReporter and didn't know about iReport, I'd never even notice it.
Hi ...I'm on CNN. com international...no problem finding/accessing iReports...seems to be the same format as before...however it is different more difficult to locate on the U.S. CNN. com...home page...
The multi-tasking iReporters may be active in many different iReports. It would be good if we could keep track of the reports we are interested in, and comment on, rather than just recently viewed. And it should be expanded over a longer period of time for the those iReports iReporters wish to continue with their additional comments.
I´ve often thought the initial 24 hour period for new reports is much like the 24 hour gourd for the relief of Jonah, and then it disappears. A function to keep track of those reports of interest to iReporters beyond the 24 hour period would be great, especially with a notification system of additional comments.
lila..;question...why didn't you all do a test run with this using a dozen or so iReporters?
we're doing the kind of work here that people usually get paid good money for..and yes, it's clear that we like iReports but there's nothing wrong with getting paid for work you enjoy..
i like it in ways....im glad that ireport staff is trying to improve...when i first pulled it up...thought my comp was messed up. lol...but having trouble finding everything...and i really dont like the not vetted for cnn part. just a few glitches, other than that, THANKS!
This is not working out for me. I don't know if it's because of the browser I'm using (Safari) or what, but I'm having a very hard time uploading pictures and publishing.
It took me over an hour to upload and publish one story this morning and now, after the 5th failed attempt at uploading a new story, I'm going to have to leave, as I'm pressed for time. Perhaps I'll try again tomorrow, if I find some time.
Also, has anyone else noticed how few views iReport is getting today.
Again, why the grid old stories on the iReport Home Page? What's the point in that?
lila, if CNN does anything, please, please, include the preview function of this blog in all iReports for editing comments. This would be the best improvement that could be made.
all I can say is that I have been on here about 5 hrs now and I can say my viewing pleasure has diminished not happy at all not having as much fun viewing others post does not feel right I think I am done for awhile I may come back later don't know
Overall I think the format with the comments on the left of the screen rather than further to the right was better when it was on the right. The larger boxes and open white space to the right of the comments is also not a comfortable look for me, I liked them smaller so I could view more per screen. So far there are too many things I don't like to list them all.
If iReports already had a disclaimer at the top of the page letting everybody know CNN did not verify or endorse the contents of any report, why mar the images with an additional superimposed disclaimer? From CNN´s perspective, what purpose does it serve?
Update: we hear you on the concern about the iReport box missing from the CNN.com homepage. So you know, our plan is to feature iReports throughout the new CNN.com, but we've encountered a technical glitch that's keeping us from doing it. Not to worry, it will resolve itself, but wanted to let you know.
When I look at a post from my profile it shows as still loading. When I tried to send a private to someone who commented on my whale article to ask them if they were able to see the picture, I couldn't send it, because the body part of the message wasn't clickable and I got a message telling me I couldn't send a message to someone without a message in the body. I also got resent to the top of the messages about five times while viewing messages that were lower. Geez, get the kinks out of a system before you throw it out for the public, this is highly annoying. Hate change, wonder why you guys messed with something that was working really well.
It's confusing. Is the top ribbon merged with CNN now? What's with the "Not Vetted" tag? All it does on every single report, is give negative feedback.
When I go to my profile and look at my own reports, the pic of the whale shows, when I click the link to view the report it shows the pic as still loading, the pic was loaded two hours ago.
What happened to "Newsiet" Most Commented" Etc. Are they still there but in disguise? We've been asking for a few tweaks, not an entire system re-write that apparently still has some major problems to work out.
I finally found some of the old features on the 'iReports' home page. What happened to the topic cloud? Will I find that after another hour of digging? Very frustrating.
When viewing the "editor's choice" section, the titles and descriptions fade out and overlap the next (or previous?) report making them totally unreadable.
Exciting times for CNN iReport! :) Happy to be a part of it. Thank you!
I love the full screen option for the videos. Will there be a way to see where the iReport was used on CNN? And, will we be able to upload larger videos?
Overall nice changes. But I do agree with many- that "not vetted....." on top of all posts that are not, is first, unneccesary, and just sends off a negative vibe. We all know what posts are vetted, and it would really be better to omit that one.
hello and thanks with this new cnn we can have a great chance to be heard, and we can see who place the violation button wow this is great news to me now we can know who likes our posts thank you
Even with the old format, clicking the link ´how others see my profile,´ the page is partially hidden from my IP address. From another computer, it shows the full page.
after a few weeks away...i come and see all the changes...wow that was fast.... ''the banner not vetted for cnn'' is not a very nice thing to see ... but hey i am glad i am back...
Lots of nitches to be worked out. Having to sign in over an over again. PM messages not working. The "not vetted for CNN takes away from the reports. maybe a NV logo to relay the same. Looks good!
The "not vetted by CNN" label is a horrible idea. Why include it? What's the reason? It makes me not want to post anything else. And what happened to the iReport logo on the posts? Why was that change? I rather go back to the old page... The new look is not as inviting. I miss the old page... please bring it back! Peace! cookie
It's likely all the 'glitches' with upload times and other issues are related to the fact this is the beta version. I suspect these things will go away when it's officially up and running, so i'm not too concerned about that stuff right now.
But, aside from the video being able to be viewed full screen which is a great option, are the pictures and video screens smaller now, or is that my imagination? Seems to me they shrunk. I expected to see large video screens with letter box format like YouTube's recent upgrade. Video that is not in letter box format still can be viewed within that screen. Disappointing as lower resolution video does not look that great full screen.
Although, i realize from viewing the pages that a lot of these changes related to size have to do with advertising content and the ability of CNN to put ads where over there >>> where all this 'white space' is now, and that is the same with the video. Smaller screen, with ads next to the video. Commercials on internet content are more and more taking over but someone has to pay for what we get for 'free', and i understand that. :)
PS I don't mind the 'not vetted by CNN' logo at all. Considering some of the stuff that i see uploaded on this 24 hour cycle, i don't blame CNN for wanting to make it clear it's not their content. After all, this is a news site not a 'vanity site'. We have MySpace, YouTube and Facebook for that.
I just want to say I like the new format. It seems to respond quicker. It's taking me some time to find all the features but that's to be expected until I get used to it. I also posted a report on the issue of the report violation button being too close to the more button. I didn't realize yet that there was this entire blog dedicated to talking about the new format. Good reporting to all!
mcintron we agree but it maybe could be positioned where its not cutting so much into the layout. Maybe something above the post that plainly says that its unvetted. The way it appears now blocks too much. We personally think all counts of "views should not show". We have raised too much hell lately and are on a "time-out".
@WausauFamily. LOL You are kidding, i hope. About the 'time out' that is. ;) I don't believe one can ever raise too much hell. And i agree, it would be nice to have the 'not vetted' tag on top of the photo or video as opposed to ON the video or photo. Maybe they can do that. Sounds like a fair compromise to me. :) If you ever visit iReport in the wee hours EST, the way i do regularly, you'll see why i made that comment. There is some freaky stuff uploaded to iReports.
100% agreed. Was pushing to get more information out about medicine and probably came across to strong. So be it. Features are nice but we enjoy all the reports that are in hiding. Discovery new reporters we have described to one new friend that its like finding a new great book!
The "On CNN" Tag was much better. The "Not Vetted" is not good - but it probably came from the legal department. The red "Superstar I" Should be changed to a "S" instead.
I can not reply to any PM's at all - The screen suddenly goes blank. I love the larger file size..."Lets Pray" lol
Sunday morning ...after having downloaded a report including 10 photos...that new full-screen photo option is going to be quite a challenge/adjustment...I could use some tech support/advice...Y
Oh,my! I just uploaded a report with video and I think I'm going to cry! I don't have the best photography equipment in the world, but when on the full screen it's a total disaster! Wish we would of had some type of warning before posting. Feeling pretty embarrassed at the moment. Does this mean I have to invest in better camera equipment to stay on iReport?
Lila please consider this...that full-screen is /// is going to be a major challenge for anyone doing video or still photography unless one has the steadiest of hands and some pretty nifty photo gadgets..with the full-screen every flaw is magnified at least 5X...take a look Pixel's videos//and she's one our best//bigger yes...but better,...I'd say not at all.....hand-held video is shaky..is half screen a possibility?.....
The viewership seems to be down considerably, and one of the reasons is the I-Report box that used to appear on the cnn.com portal page is no longer there- The only presence i-report has on the portal page, is on the red strip on top.
Why not add an i-report block in the center of the page, just like money. entertainment, politics, opinion, tech...etc, That would also give 7 chances to feature i-reports at one time by using each line under the block heading. The problem is very few people are finding i-report since yesterday. You can tell by the viewership.I think that will bring the traffic to i-report.
@Lila..I have the same problem TJCII mentioned about the pop up about the vetting on my iPhone and I can't check mark it to get rid of. I also agree the "Not Vetted" banner above the iReports is a negative conantation and legal should realize they have already covered themselves with the pop up and the exclaimer on top of the pages.
The stars with the i in them seem distored.
But overall it seems a lot cleaner and crisper.
One more thing, I know that the iReporter rankings are based on hits, comments, shares, number of contributions, how many times you comment, and of course being vetted, but it looks like with the new set up that the algorithm needs to be changed. Are they working on that? Maybe giving the most emphasis on being vetted and less of the other stuff?
The ranking realy doesn't matter any more since the top 30 are not visible on the viewing pages any way to see the ranking or superstars you have to click on ireporters so realy makes no difference any more
@MarieSager I share your concern about 'full screen' being the only good option for viewing video. As i said in another post, the screen on our iReports is so small now. I had expected a wide-screen format like YouTube is using. It's a great way to go because it bridges the gap between showing video full screen and too small to appreciate. I have to render my higher quality video twice in order to shrink the file size. Otherwise, i'd never be able to upload a 3-4 minute video - it would be way too big. Doing that brings the video quality way down. Allowing you to upload files up to 1g or more would be great but that's a pain too because a 4 minute unrendered video can take hours to load.
Still not working for me. I find my way around more, but without the old box on the CNN home page, I agree that it's unlikely that anyone other than iReporters will ever find the iReport page, and once you find it, there isn't much to see. If it's that frustrating and difficult for me, as an interested party, how likely is a newcomer to stick around and look for things? The banner across the top is annoying not because it's negative, but because it hides a portion of a photograph and thus ruins the looks of that photograph.
I'm outta here for awhile -- it's not fun any longer. Maybe I'll get over it-- or maybe not.

Hi i'm Just new Here but i don't know how to create my own topic here so i will just post here to share this shocking event.
The Mangundadatus were long-time allies of the Ampatuans, whose patriarch, Andal Ampatuan is governor of the province of Maguindanao.
Police say Andal is known to control his own private army.
However, the fact that the senior Ampatuan is no longer running for governor in 2010 has opened the field for other contendersincluding Mangudadatuto contest the top post in the province.
Brawner said there were about 100 gunmen, most of whom were militiamen deputised as government guards by Ampatuan's family.
Brawner said the leader of the militiamen who staged the kidnapping was one of Ampatuan's sons. Ampatuan was not immediately reachable for comment.
Revenge killings and clashes among rival political families are common in Maguindanao and other parts of Mindanao island, where unlicensed firearms proliferate and parts of which are lawless.
Islamic militants on Mindanao have also been waging a separatist rebellion for decades.
MANILA (Philippines) - Bodies of 21 of the 44 beheaded kidnap victims, including the wife and relatives of Buluan town's vice mayor, were recovered by government troops in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao province Monday afternoon.
AFP spokesman Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner Jr. confirmed that 13 female and 8 male bodies were found by members of the 601st Infrantry Brigade of the AFP around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Buluan vice mayor Esmael "Toto" Mangudadatu told ANC that his wife, Genalyn, his sister, and some relatives were on their way to file a certificate of candidacy on his behalf when a group of about 100 armed men abducted them.
Mangudadatu, who is running for governor of Maguindanao, said some 30 media men who went to cover the event were also seized.
Mangudadatu believes the abduction was politically motivated. He told ANC that he sent his wife and female relatives to file his certificate of candidacy in the hope that his political rivals would spare them.
He said his wife called him at around 9:30 in the morning to say an armed group, supposedly of the Ampatuan clan, a political rival, flagged down their convoy on their way to Shariff Aguak town, where the election office of the province is located.
He said his wife's parting words over the phone was about the armed men slapping them around and commanding them to swallow the certificate of candidacy forms.
He told ANC it was the Ampatuans who beheaded and mutilated the bodies of his wife, his youngest sister, a lawyer, various relatives, supporters and other civilians, after robbing them.

This is so nice I can't stay away, I keep coming back, thanks lila
can no longer tell what I have already viewed don't like that part.
Hey, thanks for the comments everybody! ky42, tell me more about what you mean. Can you descibe the issue more fully?
I guess ky42 means the links you click do not show up in a different color when you go back to the page. So, if you're in the iReports page and click a link to open a story, then you hit back on your browser to go back to the iReports page. The link you clicked does not display different than the others.
I like it!
Yes so do I, a little tricky on Firefox but that just may need a few tweeks. I'll try Safari and IE next
yes before once you had viewed something the name of the report would lighten so you knew you had alread viewed it once
and I just noticed the banner where you are telling about changes and join the blog for discussion well I closed it and then map it came up but there was no way to change it back to the banner message

A function to keep track of those reports of interest to iReporters beyond the 24 hour period would be great, especially with a notification system of additional comments.
Ahh! Here I am dreaming of a perfect world again!
In the tab ´iReporters´ all that is missing is a search bar to type in the name of the person. It is done!
I don't like change lol
This looks great but the old version was better in my opinion...
lila..;question...why didn't you all do a test run with this using a dozen or so iReporters?
we're doing the kind of work here that people usually get paid good money for..and yes, it's clear that we like iReports but there's nothing wrong with getting paid for work you enjoy..
K disregard my last comment lol
I'm liking this now!!!
i like it in ways....im glad that ireport staff is trying to improve...when i first pulled it up...thought my comp was messed up. lol...but having trouble finding everything...and i really dont like the not vetted for cnn part. just a few glitches, other than that, THANKS!
Its ok.
but I think I like the old version too..
The print is not very clear or is it just me?
Also, when reading a post, there is to much space on the right side of the screen. Maybe fill this iReports?
Suggestion:
Including a Blog, maybe we should have a chat room for instant feedback, rather than, refreshing every so often.
This would be the best improvement that could be made.
all I can say is that I have been on here about 5 hrs now and I can say my viewing pleasure has diminished not happy at all not having as much fun viewing others post does not feel right I think I am done for awhile I may come back later don't know
Hi Lila. I'm getting use to it. When I first logged on to cnn.com I couldn't figure out where to get to the ireports section. But it's gettin better.
ireport loads are far too slow, mine has been trying for over 45 minutes.
However I did have one video that does not work now.
Hi JoyfulGypsy - I'm so sorry to hear you're having trouble uploading. I'm asking our engineers to investigate.
From the CNN home page how do I find ireports?
Hello Lila,
Exciting times for CNN iReport! :) Happy to be a part of it. Thank you!
I love the full screen option for the videos. Will there be a way to see where the iReport was used on CNN? And, will we be able to upload larger videos?
Oh, looks good on Windows 7 :)
Hello Lila!
Overall nice changes. But I do agree with many- that "not vetted....." on top of all posts that are not, is first, unneccesary, and just sends off a negative vibe. We all know what posts are vetted, and it would really be better to omit that one.
Other than that- so far- looks great! Good job!
WOW I was confused at first. It looks really nice though. More newsier I think. Great job!
It took two hours before I could access my latest post from my profile and see the picture I had posted. Two hours, really?
hello and thanks with this new cnn we can have a great chance to be heard, and we can see who place the violation button wow this is great news to me now we can know who likes our posts thank you
lila thanks
question the pm I am trying to send one and I can´t is the pm not working yet? thanks lila
Welcome the new CNN great challenges greater oportunities greater images greater posts I like they new CNN thanks so much
Like all new changes, it takes time. I have my bearings now and am able to navigate around, actually very easily.
Even with the old format, clicking the link ´how others see my profile,´ the page is partially hidden from my IP address. From another computer, it shows the full page.
Do not like the 'Not vetted for CNN" on the top of the posts.
It is like saying Not good enough, do not view.
Agree too much white out on right side of the page.
Gypsy I have most certainly noticed the lack of views
lately and seems to me less posts as well.
We're still kicking the tires so keep the comments coming. We appreciate the feedback.
ChrisMorrow - we've doubled our upload size capability - now 200MB.
Many more updates to announce - hope you all can join us for our roundtable Monday 12:30pm - right here on the iReport blog
after a few weeks away...i come and see all the changes...wow that was fast.... ''the banner not vetted for cnn'' is not a very nice thing to see ... but hey i am glad i am back...
The more I cruise around, the better I like!
And KUDOS for doubling the upload size to 200MB!
We're still kicking the tires so keep the comments coming. We appreciate the feedback.
ChrisMorrow - we've doubled our upload size capability - now 200MB.
===================
Tyson this is very good news!!! 100MB was just not enough room! That should help a lot.
Having problems with the pm's. Can't reply back to someone who sends me a pm.
i say to remove the Not vetted for CNN and have the ON CNN logo instead of the red 'i'
I can no longer link my posts to Facebook or Digg, as the corresponding thumbnail image is not available.
I cannot get rid of the pop up on the iPhone. No box is showing up to check and keep it from coming back
100% agreed. Was pushing to get more information out about medicine and probably came across to strong. So be it. Features are nice but we enjoy all the reports that are in hiding. Discovery new reporters we have described to one new friend that its like finding a new great book!
Thanks!
Is it too late to add 'spell check'? Just sayin'... ;)
New: The red star - mixed in with the ireporter name - please change ASAP. The Star should be to the left or the right of the name. Thanks
It looks great!
lila, again, the best improvement that can be made to iReports is to incorporate this preview function for comments.
I spent another unsuccessful half hour trying to upload pix this morning before I had to stop and move on. Not working for me.
You can tell by the viewership.I think that will bring the traffic to i-report.
.
The ranking realy doesn't matter any more since the top 30 are not visible on the viewing pages any way to see the ranking or superstars you have to click on ireporters so realy makes no difference any more
and with out the most used tags It is hard to find what you want to view
I'm being asked to log in everytime i visit cnn.com. No option to 'remember me' comes up. Anyone else having this problem?
no but I still can't pm anyone thanks
It seems I'm back in business. I just uploaded two new iReports. Woo-hoo!
Maybe I'll get over it-- or maybe not.
i believe in cnn-ireports.i love it.
they shows us the real world.

i think i report is a great thing fun to get a real story going here cheers john
However, the fact that the senior Ampatuan is no longer running for governor in 2010 has opened the field for other contenders
including Mangudadatuto contest the top post in the province.Brawner said there were about 100 gunmen, most of whom were militiamen deputised as government guards by Ampatuan's family.
Sorry I'm just new here
MANILA (Philippines) - Bodies of 21 of the 44 beheaded kidnap victims, including the wife and relatives of Buluan town's vice mayor, were recovered by government troops in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao province Monday afternoon.
Considerably, the post is actually the best on this notable topic. I harmonize with your conclusions and will thirstily look forward to your future updates. I will at once grab your rss feed to stay privy of any updates. Authentic work and much success in your business endeavors!
