Hi everyone and welcome.
Hi David, how are you?
hi alison, I'm good. How have you been?
Hello All :)
Hello from backstage at BB Kings in Times Square, NYC, where I am sitting with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, preparing for tonight's show.
Hi everyone.
Sounds like an exciting evening.
Welcome back, Chris. :o)
Hello David, New here and in Romania Peace Corps. Have been in service for 8 months in a rural village. Any questions would be welcome...Natalie
Actually, I've been sick, so not very present lately. I had a bad case of the flu for nearly 4 weeks and still not fully over it! So I've not been on CNN much. Hope to be back soon!
@ChrisMorrow Welcome back. I hope you're doing well after trip.
Hope you feel better soon, alisonv.
@RomaniaScene -- It's nice to have you here. I just took a quick look at your iReports and they look interesting. Thank you for sharing them.
Feel free to jump in if you have any questions
Thanks Joyful
@davidw
Thank you David :) visited my doctor today and he gave me malaria pills and antibiotics. Doing good :)
Anything in particular on the agenda today?
@JoyfulGypsy -- Not really. I'm open to suggestions.
Malaria, where are you?
BTW, Julio (sjunat55) will be attending the show here tonight. Should be fun. :o)
Thanks David...it's always something new here. And I find it fascinating to be able to live in the old world now.
@Romaniascene
I was in Haiti. In San Diego now.
I do want to point out a couple of cool CNN.com stories that came from stories you've seen on CNN iReport.
zdan put together this piece on what cars say about their drivers http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/02/04/what.cars.say.irpt/index.html
@Chris, Do hope you are feeling better.
she also did another story about Toyota owner's reactions to the recalls. http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/02/04/toyota.loyal.irpt/index.html?hpt=C2
Hi everyone! Sorry for jumping in late -- we've got a ton of new exciting projects in the works.
Heya everyone!
@Katie - Cool. Can't wait to hear about them.
Tomorrow we'll be launching our Valentine's Day assignment. It's been 20 years since "When Harry Met Sally," so we're asking couples to share the story of how they met on video while sitting on a couch -- just like the older couples in the movie! It should be sweet :)
My husband and I are recording our story tonight. Hope you guys are game for sharing yours!
@katie - nice.
Also, here's a fun video nicole put together on Saints fans gearing up for the Super Bowl.

Very nice, Katie. I always loved those scenes. I use them with my students teaching ESL.
Any plans on bringing back the Photo Club?
@alisonv That's a great idea! I came across a couple translated versions on YouTube when I was working on the assignment.
@Romania, welcome to the old world! (I'm in Italy.) I'll have to take a look at your reports to see what you are doing.
@Joyful @everyone - No new plans for Photo Club at the moment, but there's something else on the horizon! We're bringing back weekend assignments soon. Anyone have any ideas for fun weekend assignments they'd like to share?
Any weekend assignments involving photography sound great to me. :oD
The basic idea for the weekend assignment is that we would send out the project on Friday and the iReports would need to be done by Monday.
Then we would take those iReports and do something cool with them before the next assignment comes out.
Chris, how did it go in Haiti?
We want the projects to be a bit of a challenge and for them to encourage people to try something new. But it would need to be something that could be done in a weekend.
I just asked my husband about making a video about how we met and he thinks it would be fun. That will be our weekend assignment. :o)
Weekend assignments are generally fun, creative and not necessarily tied to the news. Some past ideas have been: View outside your window, celebrity look-alikes, and what political color are you?
Any creative ideas on what we could ask folks to do? What kinds of photography challenges would you like, Joyful?
@alisonv
My Haiti experience was an eye-opener. They need so much help.
David - That sounds great. I love a challenge.
@JoyfulGypsy Yay! I'm so glad to hear that. The how-we-met videos will be short and sweet -- just like in the movie -- under 2 minutes, if possible. We'll get the assignment up first thing tomorrow.
Chris, I'll go back and take a look at your reports.
@alisonv
Thanks for checking my stuff out Alison. Lots more videos coming from Haiti this week.
@katie - Valentine's Day is right around the corner. How about a photo challenge pertaining to that - like symbols of love? That could be interpreted so many ways.
Chris also talked to HLN, while she was over there. Here's a link to the video. http://us.cnn.com/video/#/video/ireports/2010/01/26/morrow.haiti.irpt.sot.cnn
@alison, yes, I was in Italy for half a year once long ago and am Italian so viva Italia! But Romania is pretty nice, too!
@ChrisMorrow We can't wait to see the rest of your videos! They've been fascinating to watch.
@ChrisMorrow - Great job in Haiti. Thank you.
@Katie, I like Joyful's idea!
I've done a little bit of self potraiture with mirror images...kind of fun...weird but fun...now my friends are picking up the habit...
Thanks Katie and Joy :)
Haiti was a life changing experience - for sure!
@JoyfulGypsy That's a great idea, but we generally try to stick with one assignment per holiday or news event. So how we met is covering that base ;) It cuts down on the amount of work for us significantly.
But that's not to say that you can't put together a gallery of love photos on your own! I'm sure we'd love to feature something like that on CNN.com on Valentine's Day.
@Chris, yes, bless you for the work there...people need to see the truth.
In Romania, there are two traditions that revolve around the theme of Valentine's Day...One is Dragubete, and the other is Martisor...
@everyone Sorry for coming in late and leaving early, but I have to run. David and Christina are around to answer any questions.
I can't wait to see your Harry Met Sally videos this weekend! Keep an eye out for the assignment.
See you next week.
Thanks Romania. Its the least I could do.
@Katie - Have a great weekend. Adios.
Ciao Katie :)
@katie - BTW - I caved and re-read the Catcher in the Rye. Changed my original opinion. :o)
I made the changes on my original Catcher in the Rye post.
@Romania, I teach English, too! Isn't it a great job? (Other than the pay, of course!)
Hey guys sorry I'm late, had to make a milk run
@RomaniaScene -- What do they do on Dragubet and Martisor?
I'm being pulled away now so I'd better go. I love the Valentine's Day assignment and I'm looking forward to watching the videos.
Have a great week everyone. Ciao. :o)
I have thought about doing an ireport: What was the take way on the White House Briefing.
@JoyfulGypsy -- Have a good week. Say hi to Julio for me.
Have a great show Joy :)
@adriana71 -- That could be interesting, I would encourage you to start doing it if you want. It could go in our Sound off category. http://www.ireport.com/ir-topic-stories.jspa?topicId=7233
@davidw Thank you. I would try 2 make it less then 30 seconds
I must go offline a bit but will check back with you all in a few...thanks for letting me stop by and look forward to hearing what the assignments might be.
Gotta go, lots and lots to do before I leave for the Olympics.
Have a great day everyone!
@RomaniaScene You can see all of our active assignments here http://www.ireport.com/community/assignment
Bye, Chris and RS
@alison, yes it is such a great job since we can teach history, art, music, geography, theatre, science, or whatever through the language. Talk to you all soon...
Neat @ChrisMorrow gets to go to the Olympics.
Has it escaped CNN's attention that Toyota has been lying about accelerator pedals getting stuck first on aftermarket floor mats then on vendor optional mats. If that had been an American car company, I think you and the other news networks would have crucified them.
@ChrisMorrow That's pretty exciting. Are you going for the whole three weeks?
@everyone -- I've got to run too. I hope you all have a great week.
Ok. Have a great week all.
@David...yes, I will keep searching for something to contribute to...right now winter is hot! Must get going...1130 pm here. Good night all. And hope to talk to you again.
Oh, @David...really quickly...Dragubete is a holiday on 24 February where they celebrate love much like here in the US on Valentine's Day. Dragubete is a spirit of sorts that visits to make the union of two. There is a love potion involved that is mixed from rose water and other events. And on Martisor, March 1, the girls pin the boys that they are interested in with red and white ribbons, the Martisoara, and a week later, on March 8th, they wait for and expect gifts of flowers, candy, etc. It is more involved than all that, but there is dancing, singing, folk tradition, etc.
Sorry I was late with the answer, I didn't see...send me a message if need be and I will elaborate with a link. Have a good night.
Thanks for showing my car piece on HLN today ZDAN. Several of my employees at work saw it on our flat screen in our cafeteria!
I am very upset that The Tea Party is gaining the interest of the media when there is nothing more to this group than another KKK situation. I for the last couple of weeks watched any and everything associated with them and as a person of interest, I was offended that nobody is willing to say what this group is really about. The very nerve to have posters of Obama that look real close to black face from those other racist KKK members from back in the day....and this group says they are organizers for change....oh...hell no.
Hi, David. I just uploaded an extraordinary and fully-documented story about a new form of energy from the fractional state of hydrogen that can fuel power plants with no other fuel. The science has been validated in part or whole in 83 peer-reviewed journal articles and five utilities and another group have signed contracts worth up to $500 million to implement it in power plants. The company has received $61 million in investment from some of th buiggest names in the Fortune 500. Before we build 200 new nuclear plants, as envisioned by DOE, we need to take a look at realistic, existing technology like these hydrino reactrs and save our country and our economy form endless billions in unnecessary power costs. I hope someone will vet the story and take it from there! It's called "Hydrino are fiuel for the world's low-cost power plants" and is available now on CNN iReport section. Thanks!
