The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
Six lean, mean, competing iReporters are embarking on ultimate fitness challenge – they’re participating in a triathalon with CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
The Fit Nation Triathlon Challenge is a six-month journey that culminates in the Nautica New York City Triathlon on July 18, 2010. These brave iReporters will tackle this Olympic Distance race consisting of a 1500m swim, a 40k bike ride, and a 10k run.
Please welcome the list of the lucky six:
All six competitors met up with Dr. Gupta in Central Park in New York to kick off their training. Watch their appearances on CNN’s “American Morning” -- meet the first three and the others -- to learn more about their stories.
Check back here to see how these iReporters are keeping up with training and to follow along with their progress. And, if you are embarking on a fit challenge of your own, we’d love to hear your story too.
What are your thoughts on salt intake as it relates to high blood pressure. Also what is the best source for medical research and news other than your show.
Come to St.Croix in the US Virgin Islands in May, we have the 1/2 ironman triathlon which qualifies for the Ironman triathlon in Hawaii!
Welcome the Lucky (6) Six -- The Fit Nation Triathlon Challenge! Will check you guys out on CNN. Thanks Nate
Looking forward to watching :)
The people who slaughter animals to eat meat for sense gratification shouldn't become fit. They should die of obesity. The vegans are the most kind hearted people in the world. When people fight against racism why can't they give their voice for Animals? This is a cruel place. Let people learn fitness through vegan-ism.
First Off the notion that the current health care is a "Right" (a just claim or title, whether legal, prescriptive, or moral) that all people deserve is incorrect. Health care today was developed from people who spent years of their life studying and doing research in each of the individual medications people get everyday; medical imaging that help doctors better diagnosis problems, and the operations that all their hard work deserves to be rewarded. People before our current time did not have access to health care and many of them had long healthy lives without the current advances in medicine. The current advances in medicine may add 1-2 years or more to a person’s life or improve the quality of their life after an accident or unlucky break (cancer). However, these current advances are an additional luxury we have today. This luxury is not free and it is not necessary for everyone to have it (is it necessary for someone who is 72 y/o with cancer to live to 75?). It may be desirable to live to 75 or longer, but not necessary or a right. Therefore, this expensive luxury should be purchased, the people who can afford can, those who can't can't. The people who can and choose to either worked hard for their money or got lucky, those who can't either didn't work for their money or were unlucky.
It is NOT the "secular" responsibility of the richest Americans to pay for everyone's health care just because they can. It may morally be their responsibility, but that is not for a "secular" government to decide. So if the richest American's decide that they want to help people get health care, than great they can help, but if they don't then they shouldn't have too, it's the United States home of freedom. Since health care is far from a "Right" than the government has no secular or even moral obligation to make sure everyone in the country has great health care.
Health Insurance companies have a right to charge people what they want to do. That's why other insurance companies come around to compete with them. Now people should be allowed to purchase insurance from any health insurance company they want too, states should not limit that. Opening the market should encourage health insurance companies to compete with each other and lower prices to level which they can afford and still develop a profit. If people don't want to buy health care than they can role the dice and hope not to end up in the hospital or be willing to pay the bill themselves. A change in health-care that allows people to have a larger variety in health care choices (not at the expense of the taxpayer) is needed. Tort reform is also needed, because the increased in waste of spending due to legal issues for doctors is staggering. Of the entire expensive tests doctor's order only 10% of them are actually used to make a diagnosis (a very common test "complete blood count" CBC can cost may range from $100-$200 per test).
- Health care is not a right
- The richest Americans should not be forced to pay for everyone's health care
- People who want to contribute money for other's who don't have health care is a great and noble quality and they should do that, allow people to add their money to a tax pool used for health care for people who don't have it (donations not mandates)
- Buying insurance across state lines
- Even tort reform is not necessary, but would help to reduce wasteful spending in health care
