It’s hard to imagine what an 8.8. magnitude earthquake feels like. But iReporters who experienced the massive quake shot photos and video of the aftermath that helped capture the situation. They shared stories of panic, confusion and chaos.
Marion Maillard, a French resident living in Chile, said the earthquake was "the most awful experience of my life." Melanie Kroeger described Santiago as "eerily quiet" the following morning.

Save our earth from pollution
EARTHQUAKE
Devastation in the land,
shattering sounds!
the people are intimidated,
hiding!
judgment day
is here to stay!
the earth is trembling…
awaking!
The humans should perceive
earth`s communiqué,
nature is talking,
the message is very obvious
twelve decades of abusing,
can no longer be ignored!
the signs are clear,
remember Chile in 1900!
You may question the acts
and orders from above?
don`t read the meaning,
just follow my advice,
remember 1960,
that was just the beginning!
people die indeed,
even that I determine the time!
Riots and destruction
to the region were to come!
excuses, reasons to abuse
the inhabitants and the nation
are always plenty and always
exceptionally unjustified!
nature is observing, absolution,
if you repent, may yet come!
The planet is trembling,
her soil spoiled!
how to clean, how to educate
the human parasite?
are the questions for nature
and for the Almighty?
selfishness can`t be tolerated
we are not alone!
I regret to see the suffering
of my people,
I resent to be forced
to create this destruction!
I realized the crying and the pain!
I however shall protect the weaker,
the defenseless!
Economical devastation
and more pain is to come!
I have said and repeat my message,
thousands of times!
show me that you CARE
and I shall help you in your repairs!
I shall allow you to grow
and to live in harmony!
I would like you to develop
more brotherhood and more love!
I would like to see less pollution
and clean air!
I would like you to stop the killing
of your own kind!
I would like you to respect
your country and your Lord!

I find it hypocritical that when an earthquake hits Haiti every celebrity and everyone they know jumps at the role of asking people to send money to help, but when an earthquake hits Chile there is relatively little outcry from Hollywood or the rest of the nation.
with all theses quakes going on in chile and the quake we just had in haiti is there a good chance with the earth going though theses tremendous shakes that the quakes will trigger bigger and more powerfull quakes around the world including the san andres fault,another question is what about volcanoes will the quakes also trigger volcanoes to explode just curious cause the earth is going though some changes and if we do have are own quake in the u.s how quick will our own government be able to help us out?
Earthquakes could be predicted hours,even days before their stroke. The tectonic plates movement is followed by a radiation cloud which we all can see it by our naked eyes as yellow-red shining lights on the nights`sky as my self I saw every night before and after every major earthquake for an entire month. Now,I`m sending you two of my 350 pictures (from my site blackholes-cropcircles.com on "Photo album" named "Earthquakes") I shot with my camera. The magnitude,the intensity of the phenomenon I have seen could be measured and establishing patterns that could let us know the precise time of their action we can save much more creatures than a doctor can save during his entire life. As I saw last night on the sky,others strong earthquakes are preparing to strike and all these are happening because an ancient continenet is rising from the ocean in a place we are seeing just islands (Japan,Indonesia,Malaysia,New Zealand, even Australia),in fact plates and tops of ancient mountains now sunk under the water. If my theory is right,both american continents are sinking into the ocean and in its place it will remains something like australian continent in the north and many islands in the rest,as plates and tops of the mountains. Not right now,but in a long time. I hope I`m wrong ,but unfortunately,I`m not. Thank you for your precious time.
