Let's face it: Golfers gotta eat, too. The customers and staff of a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop near Augusta National Golf Club got excited about the star golfer's visit -- wearing what appears to be his winning green jacket, or something like it -- on Monday morning after the Masters tournament. kevinbo uploaded the photo and got us in touch with the store, owned by his brother-in-law, and they filled us in on the details.
Customers went wild when Mickelson arrived with his family and store manager Greg Carswell rushed to take the money shot with a cell phone. Owner Walton Guthrie noted that Mickelson was probably making a quick stop before preparing to go to the airport. Mickelson apparently ordered several boxes of donuts in an attempt to abscond to California with the circular pastries. Guthrie tells us the photo just goes to show the "human-interest side" of the games and adds that the store is getting lots of attention from people who've seen the photo in various places.

I'm not sure that is 'the' green jacket. I thought those had to stay at Augusta. But a nice pic of Lefty and it shows what a true person he is.
I think the current year's champ gets to wear his for a year and then it stays in the champions locker room. If I'm not mistaken, it's the only green jacket allowed off of the property.

I don't think eating donuts makes him the 'true person', I think letting them take the picture and being cordial is what waterfool was getting at. Why don't you just enjoy the story and stop criticizing people...

"Near the conclusion of the Masters, several Jackets are selected which could fit the possible winner during the presentation ceremony. The winner will have his measurements taken at the Club's Golf Shop or may provide measurements so that a custom made Green Jacket can be tailored. Typically, a multiple winner will have only one Green Jacket unless his size drastically changes."
The real question is, are they real Krispie Kremes?
I don't believe this is the real green jacket. The real one has the Augusta National symbol on the left breast pocket. Not sure if it is just not visible, but seems like it would be if it was there.
Pribbb hit it on the nose. The new champion gets to take his jacket home for 1 year. Which, by the way, is the same jacket he was presented with the last two times...lol. They can wear it how they want for that year. After the year it stays at Augusta National, and they can wear it when on the grounds.
No it can't be the green jacket from Augusta because people wear hideous green sport coats ALL the time. Really?
That's not the real jacket. Why doesn't it have the Augusta emblem on it? Doesn't Phil get enough attention without needing his pic taken at a friggin krispy kream? Real humble guy........

What a goofball!!! The "green jacket" would be like your high school class ring or letter jacket....you get one but you dont ever actually wear it. I mean, I knew Phil was goofy, but this is over the top here.

The winner of the Masters (A tradition like none other) gets to take the Green Jacket home for one year. After that one year, he is presented the jacket everytime he visits Augusta National after that.

I guess a guy named MoeMoe typing anonymous posts at CNN is the arbiter of all that is cool. Maybe Phil was just kidding around with his daughter. Maybe he didn't want to pack the coat and wrinkle it. Who knows? I think it's a funny, human picture.
Good thing Tiger didn't swing by for donuts because he would have slapped the camera out of the guy's hands and then cussed him out!

Plus MoeMoe's analogy is not even close to accurate. Any bumbling idiot can graduate high school or get a letter jacket. Clearly that's his education level. How many people in the world have graduated high school or played a sport in high school? Millions. How many people have won the Masters? About 25 or so including repeat winners. Pretty exclusive. You don't go through days of stiff competition on a professional level to win a high school class ring or to wear a letter jacket.
I love it! He's human because he likes doughnuts. Helps the local economy. What a guy. And he is a great golfer. Fabulous role model at a time when kids need good role models.
Of course he could have gone to the waffle house like the clown king of golf. I think we know how that worked out.

I had my encounter with Phil in an Arby's a little over an hour after he suffered his loss to David Toms in the 2001 PGA Championship. I didn't know he could get away from the course that fast.
The man likes drive-thrus...so do I. That gives us something in common, I bet we could be buds.

As far as being the REAL jacket, the golfer can take the jacket and wear it in public for the first year and then it has to remain in the clubhouse.

Great story. Wouldn't you wear the green jacket too if you'd won it three times? Goofy or not I'd wear it if I played as well and was half the gentleman that Mr. Mickelson is.
Anyone who is a golfer would know why he's wearing the "real" green jacket out of the grounds of Augusta. It's the freakin Masters Champion!!! and you can't see the logo cause it's lower on the left side of the jacket and covered up. And really, you think he'd just be wearing a random green jacket that looks like the Masters Champion Jacket?!?!!
Should have had a picture of him hugging and kissing his wife after his win. A real man, Tiger will never have that respect from his wife. Anyhow this picture is classic, A dad taking his family to Krispy Kreme for a quick shot of sugar and carbs....the American way! Way to go Phil...your a man and a 3 time Masters champion, dont worry about these gimps slackin on the jacket, just dont hand over that large check, Krispe Kreme can't cash it!

I am guessing here. Kids where do you want to go to eat. Kid's reply Krispey Cremes. If a man is this great of a golfer that he wins the green jacket. That man can wear it where and when ever he wants.

MoeMoe24 are you serious, are going to compare what this guy did on Sunday with a class ring. I read a story that in 97 when Woods won he slept with the jacket that night, not trying to spin off any current events with Woods; he was still a kid in 97 and was proud of what he accomplished.
You know what, Phil Mickelson is a class act and it was sad and a shame that Woods did what he did to himself, just the opposite of Mickelson. Phil Mickelson has everything; forget about golf, this guy has an adoring family. Woods has nothing.
One more thing that shot on I believe it was the 13 hole by Mickelson on Sunday was probably the best golf shot I have ever seen.
Realdoughnut, yes, Krispy Kreme was born in Winston Salem but they do franchise you know? And my wife's grandfather started the Krispy Kreme here in Augusta well over 50 years ago. He was one of the first franchisees and has done well with it. Krispy Kreme is Krispy Kreme wherever you are. And yes, the HOT DOUGHNUT sign was ON!
funny how they are trying to paint Phil a a family man. The same guy most tour players hate playing with and the person Vijay called phony in front of the cameras is the same person who got a stripper pregnant and had a child with her. What a family man. This is of course don to make Tiger look bad. Is it a racial thing? maybe or maybe not. There is also a story about another woman in Canada. At least Tiger is the same person on and off the camera.

This guy turned me into a fan this weekend. Anybody with a Mom, sister or daughter will understand why Tiger is really a TIGGER! Phil Mickelson"gets it". In life there is one tried and true recipe for success: Keep it simple. Complicated is always complicated and simple is always simple. Tiger has been exposed for who he REALLY is and, thankfully, so has Phil. I am not a golf fan but I am a fan of people who work hard, persevere and are true to the people they claim to love. Hey, the story of the weekend started out focusing on a Tiger who was a Cheatah and ended with the spotlight on a great PHILanderer!! Kudos Phil, donuts for two days and then back tot he diet...... ME TOO!

marcphila - It's easy not to like Phil. He has constantly whinned on the course and is very fake to the public. I walked with him a few weeks ago in a tournament hoping to change my perception of him and it didn't. He was very pleaseant with the fans but with the people in side the ropes he wasn't as pleasant.
Hockeyskunk........and I can bet that "between the ropes" Joe Frazier was a bear too. Come on his business is between the ropes, I would expect nothing less than total concentration on his game and a little anxiety.
