I have an issue I would like to discuss, it's been bothering me for a long time.  When an assignment is posted for us ireporters, shouldn't there be a limit on how many individual posts we can make?  I mean some people make 5 to 10 reports on the same assignnment, where they could post all their pictures in one post (10), will this ever be changed?

Hello one and all :)

April 22, 2010

I do feel that facebook will be a vital tool to connect with the CNN Ireport community, especially during breaking news events like hurricanes and storms. As many storms as I film and chase, I always post constant updates on twitter and facebook, so just think if they are all linked together with Ireport?

April 22, 2010

@KCRep -- That's a good question. I would encourage people to post multiple photos of a subject as one submission instead of as 10 different iReport. We're more likely to be able to get a producer to use an iReport if it has richer content.

I don't know if we want to block people from posting more than one, but sometimes that might be interesting.

We're excited about the Facebook integration that CNN.com announced yesterday. Basically, it's now set up so that you can "recommend" stories you like on CNN iReport and they'll show up on your Facebook feed your friends will also see it. There's more to it than that, but that's the basics

April 22, 2010

@DaElmer Ouch..

April 22, 2010

I like it, another quick way to SPREAD my videos and other reports I think my friend might like... THUMBS UP!!

April 22, 2010

It also makes it easier for people to register with CNN and iReport, so hopefully more people will join the community.

@grummi68...not sure what you mean, but, what I'm talking about is posting 10 pictures about one assignment, say, big trees, where you could make one report with those same 10 pictures instead of 10 separate reports therefore clogging the system.

When you click the widget to Recommend an iReport on Facebook, it will give you the option to enter a comment.  If you don't enter a comment, a one-line item appears in your FB feed saying you recommend the story.  If you enter a comment, a full item appears in your FB feed with the thumbnail and summary of the iReport.

April 22, 2010

April 22, 2010

Hey there - sadly, I have to run to a meeting, but one thing I'd really like to know is what else you might like to see from the Facebook integration. Are there other parts of iReport that you'd like to connect to your FB profile? Ideas very welcome!

April 22, 2010

Groups withing facebook integrate with groups in iReport

April 22, 2010

I would like to see ALL vetted I-Reports go right to Face Book.. All of my friends go to CNN to see my reports anyways.. Why not load and allow commenting on both? Then CNN has 2 different places to get people comments:)

April 22, 2010

@ThinkWinWin -- We think of iReport as a social network. It gives people an opportunity to connect with each other as they share their stories with the world.

April 22, 2010

Normally I have to "Share" my video's to Face Book for my friends.. IF CNN put the vetted video's into face book, we could simply "Share" it right on face book.. Less work for me? lol

@Davidw - I understand that but it could be much more dynamic in teh way that other social networks can form groups of common interests, share resources and knowledge, and create conversations of like minded iReporters...

April 22, 2010

@DaElmer -- We do post some vetted iReports on our facebook page (facebook.com/ireport btw) but I think people would get really annoyed if we posted all of them.

I know I get aggravated when friends flood my facebook feed.

April 22, 2010

@DaElmer -- It seems like a lot of people would like a choice of what iReports are shared on Facebook with their friends, so if you just recommend the iReport or post it to your feed, you can share it with people that way pretty easily.

I believe CNN.com is missing a powerfull opportunity to build a 'true' News Social Network with the full functionality of a Facebook or Ning.

Imagine the number of people out there that are interested in news and journalism that are also interested in collaborating on stories with others...  that is what a social network can do... help to collaborate, share information, and in iReports case... report it...

CNN.com with iReprot truly has the ability to have the 'Facebook' of Social News Networking and could have literally 10's of millision of users around the world....

This is what I do professionally as a Knowledge Manager...I design these things....   CNN.com is sitting in the cat bird seat and not taking advantage of an unbelievable opportunity...

April 22, 2010

Hi all, sorry to be late.  I agree that we should choose who to share our vetted reports with, rather than have it automatic.

What I don't like about some other sites that use Facebook is that they automatically share what you've read or voted on or commented on with your friends on that site.  (Not on FB but on their own site.)

@ThinkWinWin there's plenty of room for serious reporting. There are countless examples of hoe iReports help CNN report the news every day. Some more recent examples include how travelers dealt with the massive flight cancellations caused by a volcano, the anti-government protests in Thailand, and stunning video from that oil rig explosion in the Gulf Coast. Dear Facebook:

   1. I understand your confidentiality issues.

   2. I do not wish to acquire any confidential information about the previously mentioned account (not to mention, said account is my legally minor daughter's, and she has 'friended' me, so there isn't anything being kept secret here)

   3. Your advice to contact Facebook from the email 'associated with the account' proved extremely ineffective and frustrating, as the message sent from MY ("the Mom's") account was responded to nearly immediately--letting me know that I was ineligible for a response, while the message sent directly from my daughter (the 'account holder') STILL has not received a response, approximately A WEEK later!)

   4. It seems to me an incredibly poor marketing (not to mention moral) move to habitually disable member accounts due to activity caused by legitimate member utilization of applications which Facebook ACTIVELY ENDORSES AND ENCOURAGES the use of.

I DO NOT WANT SOME GENERIC, WATERED-DOWN, QUASI-FRIENDLY RESPONSE LIKE LAST TIME!!!

I am normally a very reasonable person; in fact, I am slightly embarrassed to be on such a rampage.  But enough is enough!  Your team created a wonderful networking tool, made it invaluable to teenagers, and then put restrictions on it to prevent stalking and the like (granted a noble, worthy, and necessary cause).

BUT FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU PEOPLE MAKE APPLICATIONS ATTRACTIVE TO TEENAGERS WHICH WOULD WIND UP GETTING THEIR ACCOUNTS DISABLED?!?!?

Does the Facebook marketing team not understand the power of the "0 - 17" age demographic???  Or do you just not care because your fastest growing demo group is in the "35 - 54" age range?

I'VE GOT NEWS FOR YOU, FACEBOOK:  THAT 35 - 54 YEAR-OLD AGE GROUP IS GROWING BY 276.4% BECAUSE THEY ALL HAVE TEENAGERS WHO ARE USING YOUR ATTRACTIVE FRIEND-INFORMATION-REQUESTING-MORE-FREQUENTLY-THAN-FACEBOOK-RULES-ALLOW APPLICATIONS YOU PIMP OUT SO MUCH!!!  You stand to alienate your fastest-growing demographic group due to your lazily-programmed automatic restrictions!!!

Again, I apologize for being so "aggro" with my reply.  Please try to be compassionate:

HAVE ANY OF YOU FACEBOOK EMPLOYEES EVER TRIED TO LIVE WITH A TEENAGER WHO HAS HAD THEIR PRIMARY FORM OF COMMUNICATION WITH OTHERS THEIR OWN AGE RENDERED INACCESSIBLE BY THE VERY PEOPLE WHO CREATED IT???

I can tell you firsthand:  it's not pretty, and you folks will be very lucky if I don't wind up sending my substantial therapy bill to you for 'cruel and unusual punishment' resulting in subsequent PTSD.

I AM BEGGING YOU WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING:  PLEASE REACTIVATE MY DAUGHTER'S FACEBOOK ACCOUNT.

Yours Truly,

--Kiki Weller
