So while everyone's working their way in for the discussion, I'll go ahead and start with the day's big question.
We're taking a look at the CNN iReport section design to see what we need to do to improve it now that we've been working with it for a few months.
We want to hear you're ideas on what works and what we could make better.
I wanted to comment on the the website change. I like most of it!!! The main thing I would change is to make embeded video/photos views count.
Yeah im with Chris. For the main CNN videos (on CNN.COM), it would be really cool to see how many views that video got to judge its popularity.

iReport page suggestion: I shoot HD 16:9 ratio video. I would love the option to have a 16:9 video larger video player rather than the standard 4:3 ratio.
@JoyfulGypsy -- Our awesome new food writers are going to be working on that story. I don't know what they have planned, but everything they've done so far has been awesome, so I'm looking forward to seeing it.

How about displayed submission deadlines for the Travel Section?
On the our iReport profile pages it would be nice to see more options for contact info. Social Networks like facebook and twitter to connect more with other iReporters. I see lots of iReporters putting 4-6 links that don't turn into hyperlinks in their bio. More Link/IM Options AIM/Skype.
@adriana71 -- It's not unhappiness on our part anyway, it's just been our experience that when you do a site redesign that things don't always work the way you expect them too. Sometimes that's a good thing, but sometimes not as good as you expected.

@JoyfulGypsy Yep, we're trying to put deadlines on all assignments. Photo of the Day is ongoing, but we'll ask the travel team to put deadlines on Travel Snapshots from now on.
davidw may I ask about facebook and the real name when we share something we like? I don`t like to see my real name when I share soemthing with these new changes with Facebook,

@Larena -- I don't know if it is possible to recommend something without it showing your real name. If there is a way, I think it would be in your facebook privacy settings.
You may want to check there.
I see the spamming issue. But what if only Superstars and other highly contributing iReporters got the link feature.

Hey everybody - just wanted to hop in and say hi. Love the ideas so far. Keep 'em coming. One thing we've thought a little about is making profile pages more flexible so that people can highlight their own best work. Does that feel like something you might use/enjoy?
One of the other things we're working on is the badge system we've been talking about for a while. So we can have different recognitions for different achievements instead of just superstar/not superstar.
I can recall "back in the day" there was a lot of complaining about the ireporter page not rotating enough, the same faces constantly. There are more than 30 "super stars" (still dislike that title) anyway the page was changed and was rotating nicely until the new site started up. Now we are back to the same thing, not that the ireporter's up there don't deserve it, but then so did those of us that were up there before it was changed and suddenly disappeared into oblivion.
This is a very old issue but still bugs many.

@Ryn -- We're hoping that once we get the badge system we'll be able to highlight different accomplishments and make that more dynamic.

@Ryn - I don't understand the whole "Super Star" thing.
I mean, look at the page... It makes no sense to me most of the time. Is it based on page views (again, galleries don't count views)? Number of vetted iReports? The number of comments an iReporter spends posting on their own reports all day? I don't get it and I don't understand what is considered of "value."
Would you please fill us in, staff?

HuffungtonPost just started a new badge system. It is pretty neat in that weights real participants and positive users from the flamers.
@adriana71 what we're hoping to do with the badges is put the emphasis on activities instead of just page views and comment counts.
I don't know if any of you use foursquare.com, or 12seconds.tv, but that's sort of the model.
Some badges would be easy to get "First post" "Added phone number" or something like that. Others, such as "participated in all weekend assignments," would be harder.
They'd also be permanent, so you wouldn't have the fickleness of the current superstar thing.
and @davidw I think all of us would really appreciate it if the badges could be more dynamic. Perhaps more like the "honors" system on YouTube for different regions/categories/achievements?

@davidw Well,I would like that kind of system.If it has a base in math. We should be good.
@JoyfulGypsy -- The short explanation of the Superstar thing was that it worked pretty well when we launched in 2008, but we've outgrown that system.
That's why we're working on the new system.

Hello, my name is Misael Dominican Republic, I love the new design of PAGI iReport, but I like that his team had one person contact us in Spanish, I explained, when I get news that matters to cnn and I telephone, the interview makes me in English but my English is not very good I always ask them to send to me my email and then a google translator is what you ask me. so if in our case would have someone who speaks Spanish is perhaps more fluid communication. you ask me, because those not sending news to CNN in Spanish?, but I did and nobody answered me in Spanish, but if you can is my humble suggestion.
Just to let everyone know. I don't have an ETA for any of these changes. It can take a while to get everything designed, approved and built.
@David - how come you cannot see all the people your following in your following list? When I go in there, I only see I think 10 of them. I want to remove the ones that are no longer here and cannot get to them or see who I am really following.

Hi @misael -- We do have Spanish-speaking contacts at CNNMexico.com and in the CNN newsroom. Sometimes they're not available though.
Most of the time, our conversations won't be used on TV, so if we have to stumble through each others' language it's no big deal.
It's preferable to have someone who speaks Spanish talking to you, but I can guarantee that your English is better than my Spanish

Why can't I see my "on CNN" iReports when I click on the "on CNN" tab in my account? It always just takes me back to the "My Stuff" page without any submissions (not the "view my profile the way others see it" page?

As I said, this is very much a work in progress, but some badges would be based on participating in an assignment others might be for number of assignments.

Jajajajajaja my English is better than your Spanish through google traslate and because I visited the United States several times to do work of a photojournalist and I had the problem of language especially when I have hunger, so I had to learn English to survive over jajajajajaja when I'm in danger.
but he is right when there is good news, the pictures speak for themselves.

Hey! First off, really liking CNN IReport! I'm getting way more into it.
I was wondering, can you make it so we can choose the thumbnail for our videos? I don't like it when the thumbnail is of my face talking when the story is about something else for instance.
Also, can a reporter ever delete a story off their "my stuff" page?
I would like to see a chat room with designated topics for varoius times so we can discuss issues in real time. That would also help us connect with other people that are intrested in writing a similar story so we could work together.

If any one comes back to read this, sorry I wasn't able to attend, but I also have some suggestions. I agree that it would be great to be able to pick a thumbnail for your video iReports. Usually, the photo that appears has nothing to do with the story. Also, would it be possible to give us the ability to remove iReports that failed to load and show up on our uploaded count? I looked at least 10 times at the surveillance video of a man taking his sweater off. I do not think his behavior is showing any rush to get away from the area, and after packing his clothing into the bag, he never looked back once. I think that this individual was too hot walking with the sweater on and decided to get rid of it.
