Rachel did a wonderful job with the treasured letters submissions.  I came very close to submitting a few very special letters my parents sent me while I was away in the military, but it was just too emotional for me, plus the letters are in Spanish.  There's truly nothing quite like receiving a heartfelt handwritten snail mail to treasure long after the writer is gone.  Thanks, Rachel.

I kinda feel sad knowing that I've never lived in an era where snail mail was an acceptable replacement for email. Personally I think a face to face meeting is better than any form of written communication, but I suppose if you're limited to writing then that's as good as you'll get.

About the sunburn assignment.  Good in theory, but....c'mon, you  have either had a sunburn in the past and maybe or maybe not taken a picture of it.  But, it's not like anyone is going to go out and get sunburned for the assignment.  Give us assignments we can actually DO.  ;o)  (Not complaining - trying to be funny - although I"m not very good at that most of the time.)

@KyleHD -- Cool, I haven't watched any of the videos yet, but we've been wanting to do this assignment for a long time. If you haven't seen the assignment, we're asking people to share the stories behind their name -- either how they got their name or interesting things that have happened in life because of their name.

Everybody we talked to has had at least one interesting name story, so we're looking forward to seeing it.

Here's a link to the assignment with all the details.

Whew! We've been really busy lately. Another huge project I wanted to make sure you all saw was our Home and Away war casualties project: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/war.casualties/index.html

It's a really powerful data visualization of all the troops who have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of my favorite features, of course, is the fact that loved ones can submit iReports to their loved ones on the soldier's individual pages. The tributes have been SO touching so far.

@misael Sorry you're having trouble. You can always e-mail individual images to ireport@cnn.com and then we can move them to your account, if need be. Is it the upload process itself or the conversion on our site, do you think? If you are able to get the links off your profile (any bad uploads will be visible only to you) and send them to us, we can take a look at what happened. I will follow up with an e-mail.

@KillerMike I'm not sure what the rule technically is on that, but we'd very much prefer if you didn't. There wouldn't be much point, anyway - iReport is for sharing images and stories with CNN, and there's no reason to share them with us if we already have them, you know? If you have some text that you want to send in and just need a photo, please just use a photo of yourself. That's much more useful to us than something we already have on CNN!

Yeah, I kind of agree with you, David. Commenting sections on sites like IGN are an absolute mess because they are constantly covered with link spam. questions, comments, concerns, i think BP should cap the well the steel box then use a sort a mixture with something heavy like part melted rubber , cement and granite then pump the steel cap with dry ice or maybe hot sand and cement tand granite  to a certian percenagete to harden fast and alsostay they long enough to pump new section to relieve more pressure the , fisrt idea would be easy and fast to calculate and come up with , enough should shut the  well down completely since they have access to pump into it , if the mixture is hot and heavy to sink at same time as the dry ice it should calm the pressure enough for higher dose of weight and more hot rubber and cement ,   just trying to be part of solution and not talk about them , even though they have ruined a great part of the country but they have huge concerns to fix it maybe nasa should be involved if thay want fast solutions!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure whether this is the right platform to raise this issue. I have been writingt letters to CNN but were never published. I am disappointed to see that the CNN is not giving enough coverage to the attrocities against minorities in Pakistan. We expect more from CNN.The latest incidents in Lahore against a minority are an example of it. Why CNN is silent although everybody know that they started building up the momentum much before the incident and both extremists and government are involved. I would request the reporters on this form to support us.

Why does CNN NOT report this kind of news involving Zionist atrocities?

Two people were killed and about 30 wounded as Israeli forces stormed a Turkish ship in the flotilla carrying aid to the Gaza Strip, a spokesman for a Turkish charity involved in the campaign says.

"Our friends on the ship told us that two people were killed and around 30 others were wounded on the Mavi Marmara ship," Serkan Nergis from the Foundation of Humanitarian Relief (IHH), an Istanbul-based Islamist charity, told AFP by telephone.

Hamas-run Al-Aqsa television showed footage of black-clad Israeli commandos descending from helicopters and clashing with activists, as well as several wounded people lying on the deck of the ship.

The television network said two activists had been killed and some 50 wounded. The Israeli military declined to comment on the report and organisers of the aid convoy said they were no longer in contact with the boats.

The ships, carrying more than 700 passengers, were on the last leg of a high-profile mission to deliver some 10,000 tonnes of building and other supplies to Gaza, which has been under a crippling Israeli blockade since 2007.

Huwaida Arraf, chairman of the Free Gaza Movement, had earlier told AFP by phone from the boat Challenger 1 that the ships had expected a confrontation with Israel late Monday morning or early afternoon.

The boats had started heading towards Gaza from international waters of Cyprus at 3pm local time (1200 GMT) Sunday, with organisers saying they hoped to enter Gaza waters during the daylight hours.

About six hours after their departure, three Israeli missile boats left their naval base in the northern coastal city of Haifa on a mission to intercept the flotilla, reporters on board one of the vessels said before being told to turn off their phones.

Israel has slammed as "illegal" the convoy's attempt to break the Gaza blockade and warned it would intercept the ships, tow them to the Ashdod port and detain the activists before seeking to deport them.

In Gaza, anti-siege activists on Sunday called on the international community to ensure the protection of the "Freedom Flotilla" which had been aiming to arrive on Saturday but was repeatedly delayed.

"I am asking the international community to protect these boats from the Israeli threat," independent Palestinian MP Jamal al-Khudari told a news conference on a boat anchored outside the Gaza port.

"If Israel blocks them, they have a strategy for getting here," said Khudari, who heads the Gaza-based Committee to Lift the Siege. He did not elaborate.

With the flotilla expected to approach at some stage over the next 24 hours, Gaza fishermen took to the sea flying Palestinian flags as well as those of Greece, Ireland, Sweden and Turkey -- all of which sent boats.

Demonstrators also released scores of balloons with pictures tied to them of children killed during Israel's massive 22-day offensive against Gaza that ended in January 2009.

Khudari said the convoy, which is carrying hundreds of civilians and a handful of European MPs, would stop outside Gaza territorial waters before attempting to make landfall.

It will travel "in two stages," he said: "First they will stop in international waters at 30 nautical miles (from Gaza), and tomorrow (Monday) they will reach the shore."

Audrey Bomse, legal adviser to the Free Gaza Movement, said the activists were considering sending "a second wave" of boats later this week.

Israel has called the convoy a media stunt, insisting the humanitarian situation is stable in Gaza despite reports to the contrary from aid agencies and offering to deliver the supplies through its own land crossings.

"This is a provocation intended to delegitimise Israel," Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said on Saturday.

"If the flotilla had a genuine humanitarian goal, then its organisers should have transferred something for the abducted soldier Gilad Shalit as well," he said of the Israeli snatched by militants in 2006 and held by the Hamas Islamist movement which runs the enclave.

The activists responded on their website that they had offered to take in a letter for Shalit from his family but received no response from their lawyer.

Hamas's refusal to release Shalit is cited by Israel as one of the main reasons for imposing the economic blockade on Gaza in the wake of the group's violent takeover of the territory.

Pro-Palestinian activists have landed in Gaza five times, with another three unsuccessful attempts since their first such voyage in August 2008. The latest is their biggest operation.

It is a very sad day for Humanity. Today, I don't want to be known as a Pakistani who condemns the Israeli attack on Flotilla but as a human, who have had enough of the political games of the leaders or the so called "world powers". Is it not what the world calls Terrorism. Israeli officials say that they reacted after they were attacked but, are they forgetting that, they were the ones who attacked with ammunition, not the people on the fleet. Whatever those innocent people did was in their defense. Today we have to think above everything. Wake up people, look how we are misled. The western world calls, us, the Muslims as terrorist but look around, who is actually crushed. In Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, all who die are Muslims. We wake up everyday and believe our leaders without looking at the facts. First you make people suffer for the mistakes they have not done, and then you give lectures on believing in humanity. Israeli's killed thousands and thousands of people, and World Powers are blind to that. EU and UN keep on telling the Muslims to do more but they themselves are not doing anything. Leaders of any country, except a few, all are after money, they all have lust for power. Think more about more than your race, culture, caste, religion. I am a proud Muslim, Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), gave the message of love, peace and care for all, and I follow my religion. I feel bad for all those who suffer, whether they are Muslims or not, and I request the World today the same. Raise your voices, before it's too late.

Live videos clearly show the Israeli officers who boarded the Flotilla were violently attacked before they reached the deck. Peace movment people don't engage in behavior such as this!! It looks like an intentional act to engae Isreal in war, they all had on black masks, were armed with pipes and knives. These people are known for stirring up the pot and believe their way is the only way, other than death rather it be the people of Israel, their own Women, Christians ect.. Israel should recieve our support to protect itself from haters and bitter war mongers such as this, had they followed policy and pulled into the designated port for inspection like they were instructed to do as well as warned many times Israel would not had to use such extreme measures!

The animation diagrams of the well head show six or eight large bolts holding a flange togeather just below where the clean cut is to be made. Why haven't they considered just disconnecting it there and hooking up a  new flange to capture all the oil flow? Please pass this idea along.

Don't Close the Beaches! Park tanker trucks as close as possible and declare them BP reclamation centers for oily water at

50 cents a gallon. They get their oil back and can then filter the water, sand, grasses, dead marine life and waterfowl out at a later date.

A win win attack. Employment rates go through the roof until the entire area is restored and BP recoups some of their losses with our oil. BP is supposed to pay for it all anyway, right?

Hi all and this is a suggestion for CNN to maybe take this topic into a TV discussion:

Why there is more greed in the US than other western countries?

If someone can research and talk about this that would open many eyes and make us understand more.

I can think of few things, well in the US, people have no secure future for retirement so they have to go and collect as much money as they can to feel secure about their future. They can’t rely on the government unlike in Europe where it is provided to them where they are more relaxed and less anxious.

Here in the US, some people are maybe sub consciously or consciously striving to get as much money as they can to live well once they retire, of course living well depends on people standards but, at least, the middle class or most of the population won’t have to worry about living in their homes, having a health insurance and having enough food which are the basic human needs. I am for capitalism but with conscience and why can’t we learn from Europe and pick the good things that work there and use them here? Nothing makes us less patriotic if we care about our citizens on the contrary.

I just wanted 2 say on the Oil spill disaster..

That i predicted from the begining that BP/oil comapany would make it appear that we cant stop the leak...so that we can slow it down just enoughf 2 remove what comes out by boat put in barrels... if they would of capped it off they would be told not 2 mess with it anymore and that would resualt in loss of income resourses for them. so they'll make it appear they cant stop it, but they can contain it, but it will fill up and they can say they need 2 release presure from it so it dont build up every week.. so they can keep getting oil from it. but didnt obama say that we cant get oil that far down anymore like a depth bann. but they will continue using this oil for years 2 come... hbecuase if its stopped and plugged do u think will want them 2 reopen it or make new pipe 2 same oil source.. no.. so they'll contain it so they can regulate it\collect

why dont they just put a super long very wide pipe all the way down and like a water tower in the oceanwith no top yet that will sit 8 feet above the water then work on capping that wich would be well in reach like take 1 of are freeways and roll it up into a wide straw put in around it. why work on plugging something so far down just redirect the leak then u would have a big pipe comming out of the water and overflowing with clean oil. picture it..

Bp only wants 2 keep collecting from this site. closing it would of stopped there money from this location.

No one would let them go anyware around it. if it was stopped..

it will be fixed in way they are still allowed 2 drain from it somehow.. thats there main goal.. cameras are there so u will believe that they are trying 2 stop it but in every diagram they show on tv on how they plan 2 stop it...always includes a way 2 rehook up anouther pipe 2 use it. always... no real intention of completely stoping it. but instaed of most of it going into the ocean. (like were used 2 seeing) they'll offer to remove the oil by the barrel on a ship as fast as the can lol.

BP is making a huge mistake in cutting the riser pipe.  The flow will increase 40-60 %.  The pressure pushing out of the well was strong enough to blow the mud back out of the kinks in the riser.  That little bottlecap with only 1" clearance will not work. It will most likely break off at the end.  I suggest running several 4" pipelines straight down into the cut riser and up to the surface.

A 21" pipe should hold a bundle of approx. 6 (4" pipes) Gaps in the fit can be filled with steel rods or smaller pipelines.

Once that riser is cut we are in a race for our lives.

I posted a video of the cluster pipe on my ireport page.

The NAACP is looking into this situation. please check this out, it's all over the news in Nashville Tn. This needs to be national. Beck is a Charlatan and a fraud. How could he encourage folks to buy overpriced gold coins from a questionable dealer? The tea party would vote against him, if he were a politician. At times, he acts like a buffoon>

Has anyone thought about sticking a "cork", for the lack of a better word, into that 22" oil pipe spewing oil? At least it would slow it down until they get a handle on it!

What is wrong with everyone.? Has HAARP up in Alaska really burned everybodies brains out?"The largest Enviromental disaster the US has ever faced" The Gulf spill is only the beginning, if we continue to drag our feet in the clean up of the oil floating in the Gulf right. If a hurricane of marginal to significant strength blows in it will pick up this floating oil and spread it up into the Mississippi, Tennessee and Ohio river valleys Poisoning our nations crop lands, water supplies spreading this disaster far further than blowing it ashore whereby assaulting the state of Louisiana from the North as this oil residue flows back down the rivers into the Gulf and Mobile Bay. 70 mph winds and 6 inches of rain in St Louis,Mo and Louisville,Ky are not uncommon from previous hurricanes. To think these hurricane remnants won't be carrying this oil along with it is not facing reality and completing the largest enviromental disaster the WORLD has seen and only due to inaction. 17 countries have offered assistance but only 2 have been ask to come. United Arab Emirates OIL SPILL CLEANUP crews are on STANDBY, Why!!! There should be every available means in the Gulf right now. What purpose does waiting serve.? Our government is failing us far beyond Katrina. One man does not run this country. Our elected officials in the Senate and House are responsible and must take action to get the cleaup underway NOW.! If they continue to take no action they all deserved to be impeached for malfeasance.
Lets get this 45 days of shame behind us before NOAA predictions of a very active Hurricane season spreads this disaster. Call your representaives everyday if necessary,Make some noise demand action lets get some clean up going !!!!
