There will be a rally in support of Sandy Kane (The Naked Cowgirl) in Times Square, NYC, this Saturday, July 3rd, at noon.  If you're in NYC, come on over and join in.

I can't post the link here, but if you look at my recent iReports you can find out more about her there.

Sent my Big Boi question! It won't be vetted, as it's not a softball. I have found that only the most lightweight of my questions make it to the subject. Why is that?

Hey! I actually made it to a roundtable. Quick comment/suggestion, can we please choose our video thumbnails (like on youtube), sometimes the one assigned doesn't really do justice for the story or capture people to check out the video.

Thanks! (ps- iReport Rocks)

July 1, 2010

Maybe they want the interview to be a pleasant one.. They aren't going to ask questions that might make them feel uncomfortable...

July 1, 2010

The iReport questions are usually picked by entertainment producers, very rarely by the iReport team, so unfortunately, that's not a question I can fully answer. For what it's worth, I thought you asked a good question @BrettBayne.

July 1, 2010

@Henry - Do celebs see our videos or just read the questions? What/Who determines what questions get picked?

July 1, 2010

I think you're right, DaElmer. That's a great summation of what has become of journalism in the last couple of decades. We used to ask burning questions—now all we do is kiss butt. Journalism should not be "pleasant."

@nsaidi

Actually the coverage is quite complete, from the visuals to how it affects common folk. Great work.

July 1, 2010

Gulf Coverage? What about BP covering up the oil with sand? IF the EPA caught a junkyard, gas station or a company doing that.. They would explode!! BP does it and it is OK?

July 1, 2010

(Of course, when we ask for questions for newsmakers such as President Obama, however, those are usually individual show producers, not entertainment.)

July 1, 2010

@Nicole - What's missing from the coverage? Ways for this country to eliminate its dependence on both imported oil and hazardous drilling.

July 1, 2010

Sometimes Obama is entertainment;)

July 1, 2010

In many cases lately, the celebrities do see your questions, thanks to the technological advances of iPhones and iPads.

July 1, 2010

I think CNN should interview people on the beach swimming in the gulf.. Like in Florida where they simply covered up the oil.. To see the look on these families faces when you dig a hole and find oil.....

July 1, 2010

@hhanks, like when Russell tried to kiss my picture when I asked him a question? lol

July 1, 2010

Eh, the celebrity iReport segments are always too short. Even if they don't use my question, I am always left feeling like I just ate a single potato chip. Perhaps the segment producers are too busy playing Angry Birds.

July 1, 2010

@mpgomatic -- That's an interesting angle to take, and a pretty big topic to explore. What could individuals contribute in that vein? Kind of a loaded question, no?

Check out the reactions from Russell Brand from "Get Him to the Greek" and the cast of "Twilight Saga: Eclipse". Russell's questions were shown to him on an iPhone, and the "Eclipse" questions featured the debut of the iPad in iReport interviews.
July 1, 2010

@Nicole - We are all upset about what's happening down in the Gulf but few seem to realize that we're all to blame for it. This country is addicted to "cheap" oil that is anything but cheap.

July 1, 2010

Plants are like children.. Treat them well and give them what they need and they will grow healthy..

July 1, 2010

@EWillies1961 Glad you think so! We really want to help folks tell their stories. Is there a next step at all? I'm pleased that people are able to show us what they're experiencing via their cameras.

July 1, 2010

@Nicole - Here's two examples of things that can be done immedately: 1) Are there public utility companies that are going out of their way to convert homes from heating oil to natural gas? 2) What about the vehicle fleets that are converting from diesel to natural gas?

July 1, 2010

I would like CNN to go into places where there are not people living.. Along the gulf coast to see IF they are cleaning the oil up.. Curious to see IF they are only cleaning for the camera's...

Also talking about how BP has blown over the EPA to believe the dispersant is safe- It has been outlawed in Great Britain..  More toxic than Battery Acid..

@mpgomatic When I took science classes back in the day we used to talk about how energy has to come from somewhere and that it's all gotta balance out equally, just like an equation. Even if it's the motion of a waterfall or turbine. So ... where was I? I'd love to see someone like you take on that issue. It's pretty complicated, but also not so much. Would you perchance have a little time to do an iReport?

July 1, 2010

How about having celebrities on with a broader fan appeal.  Most are targeted to a very young, limited audience and old folk, like me, have no interest in them or even know who they are.

July 1, 2010

Maybe if iReporters have friends being affected they can do Skype interviews and use product like Applian to record interviews and anything they can capture.

July 1, 2010

I don't watch TV or Movies.. But I do research celebs to see what the best question would be for them.. I might not know WHO they are but I can find questions to ask..

July 1, 2010

@DeElmer - Some people don't have as much free time to do that.

July 1, 2010

Unfortunately, we don't have full control over which celebrities or guests we have access to. In a lot of cases, it's based on which movies or albums are being released soon. We recently had questions for stars like Liam Neeson and Julie Andrews, so we try to have as much variety as possible.

July 1, 2010

If my kids were not home for the summer, I might not either.. I make time to do what I can..

July 1, 2010

@Nicole - I always make time. :) Lets come up with a handful of killer questions. Then I can hunt down an expert (or experts) to provide the answers.

July 1, 2010

@DaElmer - Good for you.

July 1, 2010

@DaElmer -- I like the idea of going up the beach and finding out how cleanup is dispersed, and if treatments are safe. Some of that probably falls in the territory of CNN investigation, in which case an iReporter could help tell that story and CNN could help look into and perhaps package it. Collaborative storytelling. I like it.

How can CNN and iReporters work together?

Hi Pixel!

July 1, 2010

@nsaidi, I wish I was on the coast to cover what isn't getting covered.. I want to interview these people who are letting their children swim in the water.. I want to ask them to make a sand castle and see their faces when they pull up oil that is buried below the surface..

What about the 1000's of gallons of the other dispersant sitting on a dock in Texas..

Also- Isn't it weird that a Former BP person now works for the company supplying dispersant to BP?

I will work to catch up on whats going on!!

July 1, 2010

There were ALL these idea's about how to clean up the oil from the surface of the water.. And the ONLY thing BP wants to use is a chemical that is outlawed all over the world.. The EPA tells them to stop, BP says no and the EPA walks away?????? NOW the EPA says it is safe???

I need to find my hip waders, it is getting deep..

July 1, 2010

One thing to note for everybody -- in the news business, every yin has a yang, and so goes opinions expressed. It's our duty to follow up on opinions and try to get a response or rebuttal somewhere if possible; the case of DaElmer and EWillies' debate was great because there was a back-and-forth. Ultimately, a mature and productive discussion (that could induce real change) might just come from that. We encourage you to express opinions and respond to others as you see fit. And we'll also seek replies and further context as needed.

July 1, 2010

@nsaidi, it makes it easier that we are friends on Face Book, I respect EWillies alot.. He has knowledge we can all learn from, we just don't see eye to eye on everything.. But we do it peacefully:)

All right everybody, time to wrap things up!

Tonight, there's concerts and other benefits going on, look for one around you.

Keep in mind the Jimmy Buffett concert on July 11, for those of you in the Gulf.

Be alert for stories around you, issues in the news, people you know affected by the Gulf. As far as Gulf coverage goes.

And if you have any assignment ideas, please post them here. Peace out!

July 1, 2010

Woods..lol That is funny.. I can drive 5 minutes in any direction and I WILL be in the woods.. Our city has 8,000 people only, not much for news around here..

If I dumped 1 gallon of oil onto the road, you will get the police and fire dept responding, then the EPA and others will fine you to death.. That would be news.. jk

@Nicole - Our family heads down the shore every week. Can't imagine how we would feel if it was our beach, our jobs, our ocean. But of course, it is. We all share in this.

FWIW, I was able to beat the EPA estimates in my test car today by better than 20%

Dear Cnn,

the debate on arizona reform with the rep from arizona, they talked about how the law helps the police with issue's resultig with illagal immagrints, now i saw them arguue, and there is a Big misunderstanding there, yes i believe EVERYONE has the civil right not to be jugded, now if there is a little jugding going on, and ALOT of kidnapping's, thieft's, job loss for Americans Not (just white's) going on i think to my self what is more of a issue, should we sue our self's and punish arizona crying for help becuase a little judging is going on? i think we should Help secure arizona, Punish the one's hiring illagals and OBAY THE LAW!

There Will Always Be A Bad Apple, FOOLSIH to think there isnt.
