The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
This year in iReport, we've received submissions from every continent. The new CNN app for the iPhone has encouraged even more international submissions, making it easier than ever for iReporters around the world to upload on the go.
It got us to wondering: Could we get an iReport from every single country? We looked at the countries we had so far (plotted in red on the above map), and discovered we were missing fewer than 50.
So here's the challenge: We want to approve an iReport from all of them.
We're calling it the iReport Global Challenge. For the purposes of the challenge, we're using the 194 independent states recognized by the U.S. State Department as our guide. Will you help spread the word? If you know anyone from any of these places, send them to the Global Challenge assignment and encourage your friends to upload an iReport.
Let's get started!
I don't see Sri Lanka on the map !! :(
ALLAH.............. THE QURAN..........WORLD
look closer its there, lil spec below India
Sunethra, the reason Sri Lanka isn't on the list is because we've gotten iReports from there (thanks to you!). If you have friends in any of these remaining countries, please feel free to spread the word!
Even from N. Korea? I would like to read the iReport from there!
Do you have special categories for iReporting from in the air, under water, under ground, or outer space??
@Ldopa Hah! Never thought about that. When we get our first iReport from outer space, you can bet we'll make a big deal about it!
Speaking of underground, why not ask the Chilean miners to submit iReports???
very cool!!!!
Is it me or does everyone else see it... so much of less presence of dots in China!
Oh! thanks Katie.
Katie, why not encourage space station astronauts to create an iReport?
Hi everyone. And welcome to Azerbaijan! My name's Rebecca. I live in Andorra (one of the missing countries), and have just posted a few stories to the ireport global challenge. Let's hope they get approved soon. Go have a look, if you'd like to learn about Europe's sixth smallest nation.
i haven't seen ireports from north korea. north korea is my dream destination, as a matter of fact, my phone's ringtone is a north korean song entitled "spring in my hometown"
i think, i'm complete if i visited north korea someday!!!!
@akalukas - Good eye! We have approved an iReport from North Korea, but unfortunately for security reasons, we had to remove it from the site.
@Sherbien - If you ever do make it to North Korea, let us know! We'd love to see photos and video from there.
I visited Benin, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast earlier this year.. didn't get much video but I have plenty of photos.
Yemen????
@Zanooba, yep, we've got Yemen: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-517514 (as one example)
Why was Grenada listed under South America? Really, the continent is America, and it includes counrties from Canada to Chile, including all island nations...
Hi @Karl2010, thanks for your question. We went back and did some more research, and the CIA World Factbook categorizes Grenada under Central America/Caribbean. So, for the purposes of the challenge, we changed the heading to Americas. To your second point, the most common classification of continents includes North and South America as separate continents, though you are right that North and South America are sometimes grouped as simply the Americas. Thanks for pointing this out.
My brother Lee was noted today as the one to complete the Global Challenge with his trip to Nauru but it was actually he who pointed out to me that the person who reported from North Korea actually never went there. So I sent in an iReport about my actual trip to North Korea to complete the challenge.
