The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
Join us today at 3 p.m. for the CNN iReport roundtable. It’s your “monthly Merv!” CNN media producer Merv Teo is back to answer your video and editing questions.
Need help with lighting? Not sure how long to hold a shot? Wondering what kind of equipment is best? Merv is your man! (For example, you might ask for how best to compose a shot while asking a question of Amy Sedaris or the cast of “Harry Potter.”)
We would also like to thank everyone who took part in the “I voted” sticker project. Check out more on that here.
Also, we invite you to ask questions of the world's mayors gathering in Mexico City later this month for a summit on climate change. This is your chance to ask local leaders about the role cities are playing in the struggle against climate change, how they plan to act, or what they’re doing to make their cities more livable. The best questions will be asked at the conference, and the answers will be turned into highlights for CNN International TV and CNN.com/environment.
In the meantime, come prepared with your questions for Merv and the rest of the iReport team, and we’ll see you at 3 (noon PT)!
Welcome everyone! @OneMervOne is here - this roundtable starts.... now!
Hi!
FIRE Away guys!
I almost forgot.
hey all
Hi rachel
hola!
What do you guys have planned for us?
Hello from the Philippines!
Hey Sherbien!
Looks like everyone might be zonked out from the elections!
Welcome @Sherbien
@ireporttwo - What issues do you run into when iReporting on video? What questions do you have? @OneMervOne is here to answer!
I just have a problem with my camera. Need a better one. It doesn't give me a good picture. Sometimes I make my videos too long also and it exceeds the space allowed. Got to get to know my camera settings better.
what kind of camera do you have?
hey all
A sony cybershot. Not expensive. Maybe I can throw a hint for Christmas.
IReport Hi all, Misael Rincon Dominican Republic and I have a question: I would buy a semi-professional camera but not know which one if for a P2 200 or a Nikon that would use both to take pictures and make good video??
Hi dp. Awesome election video you did.
Welcome @misael and @dpkronmiller!
Can you recommend a affordable camera that works really well and is simple to use?
Hi everyone. What an election huh?
Got to go. Will check back.
Hey all!
I can still only view the first photo on everyone's post including my own. This has been going on 3 months now. It is so frustrating.I have reloaded flash over and over.
Henry and Tyson were helping research the problem for me but I have been in the middle of an out of state move. I do not have any problem viewing a video clip, if there is only one as well.
ireporttwo...I have a canon powershot and it couldn't be easier to use. :)
Hi henry, I have also problem with my camnera phone which is Vivaz that keeps on adjusting to the light and my shaky hands is always the problem that's why I bought a camera phone tripod days ago and I'm planning to buy pixon12 as replacement for my lost iphone4. Do you have any information if pixon 12 is good in video. I read good reviews about the crisp photos taken from pixon 12
@misael: are you refering to a Panasonic P2 handheld and one of the new Nikon DSLRs that shoot HD vido as well?
if your primary concern is to take good still photography and also be able to shoot good video then the new Nikon or Canon DSLRs do come with that funcationality, and shoot full HD video as well.
@ sherbien, one sec, im checking the tech specs of the pixon 12
Welcom @Ryn and @KCRep
thanks onemervone, i'm pressured because there are alot of Christmas events this November here in the Philippines and i should have a good video of those events. today i went to attend the event where the relic of St. Giulia was unveiled to the public, i went to the first science film festival presscon, i chance to meet a wwf staff doing advocacy and i hate the video quality of what i shoot.... keeps on adjusting to the light that's why i end up uploading pictures now.
@sherbien,
hi, looking at the tech specs it seems like it would take really great still photos, unfortunaltey i dont have enough experience with the phone to know how it reacts to video.
i would say if you've had an iphone 4 before, you'd have to try the pixon 12 and do a test and compare it, iphone 4's video capability comes pretty close to the flip and is pretty decent so it really is one of those situations where you have to go to the store and do a test recording and see the quality to make a decision.
thanks onemervone, makes me miss my iphone4, hopefully pixon 12 will be ok but do you know any other camera phone like htc or what.
@sherbien,
if you want an inexpensive solution, the flip video cameras usually do well in video situations you're talking about,
the other thing is you'd have to probably be mindful of where you are standing, ie having the sun behind you etc, would probably minimize your light changing situations, move yourself in a few spots till you find the right position so the light change doesnt pick up that much on the camera.
@Ryn - Have you tried a different browser?
Hey gang, sorry for being late. Can I jump in for a minute and tell you about a few new assignments?
@sherbien,
in all honesty i personally wouldn't use a camera phone as a primary camera for shooting video, simply because it generally is not designed for that, and most camera phones shoot video in 3GP which is really poor quality, which is why you get the changing lighting conditions etc amongst other issues. 3GP also does not handle audio well at all.
the iphone4 shoots in .H264, which is the same as the flip which, as far as inexpensive solutions go, i would recommend instead.
great round table
Welcome Johnny Colt!
hey Tyson!
Welcome @JOHNNYCOLT!
Just made here
Kodak playsport works great and is water proof... you can see it in action on many of my ireports
thanks onemervone, i think, i should buy flip.
Sure have Henry
Hi Hank ans Tyson
Hi @gregreesehd - We have a ghost on a stick here in the newsroom.
thanks johnnycolt. i'll look at it...
Welcome @JOHNNYCOLT!
testing
We see your posts, @gregreesehd - no worries! Got any video questions, by the way?
LOL
@JOHNNYCOLT
agreed, kodak playsports is a great one as well, and it takes external Sd/SDHC cards
@Ryn - See if it works for you on another computer when you get a chance... I would clear out my cache, and if necessary uninstall and re-install my browser as well.
The ghost on a stick photo is on its way to you!
@dpkronmiller sorry I missed you in DC. I was there (but at a conference)
I'm not sure of today subject matter just yet, but I would like to know how would you set up a video interview to interview Larry King?
if you buy extra card and extra battery - you can playsport cam all day - also easy to velcro to yourself so you are free to shoot stills
I can see everything on my husbands Mac
monopoly the great American game
great assignment
Also... we're right in the middle of planning our holiday coverage. (I know - it's still early) but would love your thoughts on it.
The general idea is a scavenger hunt around the 12 days of Christmas.
Funny you should ask such a question @gregreesehd - http://ireport.cnn.com/blogs/ireport-blog/2010/10/27/want-to-interview-larry-king
I would go the uninstall/reinstall route if you haven't tried that @Ryn
Ok then it has to be this computer and not the iReport site or my account. Will have my "teky" family check it out.
Thanks!!!!!
tyson, that's cool. here in the philippines, there are lots of xmas events and bazaars. this saturday, there will be the unveiling of a 25ft drummerboy, a grand carol.... etc...
i can't wait for that assignment.
More on the 12 Days of Christmas - our scavenger hunt will task iReporters with finding real life examples of the subjects in the classic holiday song. IE - A drummer drumming, a maid a milking, golden ring, etc.
Then we put them together for a master video.
We're pretty psyched about the possibilities.
We're even considering singing.
Another early holiday reminder - Black Friday is always a great occasion for iReports. Check out how @Asathecomic tackled it last year - http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-361810
Love the sound of the holiday assignment!
Anytime @Ryn
I just pulled my Disney Monopoly game out of the closet but it's never been opened is that ok or should I open it and set it up for a picture?
Hey guys just jumping in here -- working on the Monopoly assignment. Hey KCRep, how old is that Monopoly game? I would suggest not opening it yet. Is it wrapped or anything? It could be a collector's item. If you think it isn't then that's another story.
Maybe take a picture of a different board you have, or the unopened package? Let us know your situation and thanks for checking it out!
Yes, it's still wrapped up in original wrap. Definetly a collectors item. I will take pic of the box, but there's so much cute stuff in it I may open it
hey tyson - maybe next time! I doubt it's my last trip out there - esp with the new site now. (oh feel free to give me feedback on it www.themiddlenation.com )
