CNN iReport roundtable: Thursdays at 3 p.m. ET

Hi everybody. We've got a roundtable chat this afternoon and a whole lot of things to talk about.

We've already told you about the elimination of the 'Superstar' system and the new Twitter feature, but we'll be happy to answer any questions you have. We also want to let you know about the huge, new Census project that just launched.

The roundtable will start at 3 p.m. ET. We look forward to talking with you.

Another question for your David. :)

Please explain CNN's vision with taking away Superstar status. Thank you.

Hi Chris.

There are going to be iReport Award badges. They're designed (and cute) and there are just a couple of technical things we have to get done to make them active.

Hi nancysv -- first off congratulations on finishing your bike ride.

We're holding our first CNN iReport awards to recognize the amazing contributions iReporters made to our community in 2010.

You can check out all of the nominees here: http://ireportawards.cnn.com/

We've created badges for the nominees' profiles, but they're not linked up yet.

Let's try this again...I keep losing my internet here in Cairo. Anyways, all people have many reasons for 'motivation.' Some need to be heard, other need understand, maybe recognition. I for one do well with a 'good pat on the back.'

However, anyone who takes the time to take a snapshot, return home, upload his/her story, report on it,etc...is a SUPERSTAR to me.

I do believe that it's better to not take away and instead 'give-back'...however, rules will be rules.

We'll continue to highlight quality iReports on CNN.com, just like we always have. People got the stars because they were active on the site. They weren't featured on the site because they had the stars.

That's part of the confusion we wanted to elimniate.

We have the profile badges now, and we're planning to make them more visible in the future.

One thing the Superstar tells me is that the Ireporter has been around for a bit and not just logging in for the day. Is there any thought to adding a feature to show an Ireporter has been around for a specified period of time without having to go to their profile?

David!

iReporters tab would hightlight superstars.  People who where not members of cnn.com and/or ireport.com would find me there. I would easily tell people that they could find me there. :)

Any suggestions so I can plan better? :)

March 3, 2011

@changecairo -- That's a lovely way of putting it. I couldn't agree more.

The main reason that we retired the star is that it was based on numbers that reset every week. That meant that if someone went on vacation or took a little break, there was a good chance they would lose their star.

This upset people.

The best thing about the badges is that once you earn one, you've earned it and it will be there for good.

@JoyfulGypsy No hard deadline for cultural census yet. This is something we'll be working on until at least June or July, so you have awhile. :) Obviously we'd love to get stuff in sooner rather than later so we have ample time to analyze, promote on the CNN.com homepage, etc...but don't stress out about getting the iReports in, like, this weekend.

@NuYwk -- This isn't the last change we're going to make. We want to make the badges more visible and maybe attach them to the person's screen name around the site.

I'm not sure if we can do it, how we would do it or when, but I like the idea.

Hey everyone -- I'd like to mention a couple of things:

1. Thanks for sending all that #techlife stuff, those of you who participated. There was a big response from our friends on Instagram and that spilled over right here on CNN iReport. We have a post on the blog and there's a gallery posted on Mashable. Great feedback, and we're still wondering what can be done with that stuff.

2. There's another project right now that we're doing with Team Coco, interestingly. We're asking for videos of messy rooms. Check it out; it's called Team Coco Solvebusters:

@Chris Check out this blog post - http://ireport.cnn.com/blogs/ireport-blog/2011/03/01/defining-america - for more info. It pretty much spells it all out. There are five assignments that you can contribute to.

There will be more exciting news about cultural census to come (it's going to be awesome), but for now, start with the assignments.

Rachel - What is vetting based on in the Cultural Census project?  It all seems so subjective.

For example - accents, or lack of "accents" can be quite deceptive - especially for those of us who have moved around quite a bit and whose first language isn't English.

Hello everyone

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, MESSAGE FOR ALL THE JOUNALISTS,  COMMENTATORS AND AUDIENCES ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Subject :  "America" and "Americans"

Reason for message :  Let`s put things in their right place

Mainly, this is to correct everybody about an unfortunately much spread misconception among USA’s people of all walks of life concerning the denomination “America” and “American”  and also much spread among most people in the rest of the world.

For everybody's knowledge, America has never been a country ; there is no such country called America ; America is and has always been A CONTINENT, which goes from Alaska in the north  all the way down to the Patagonian region in southern Southamerica ; so, this means that Canadians are Americans, Mexicans are Americans, Cubans are Americans, Jamaicans are Americans and so are Colombians, Brazilians, Argentineans , Chileans, and all the nationalities found in the AMERICAN CONTINENT, including of course the USA ; hence the name of that nation, The United States OF America.

I hope  that everybody reading this truth will contribute to clarify this matter to their family members, friends, acquaintances and to other people in general so that the terms America and American are not wrongly used and monopolized for USA’s people.

Regards

José

JHutch...I would like to help you with your question.  The "onCNN" tag on your report means that CNN used your report somewhere on their site.  You submitted a great report from the "field" to CNN.  Congratulations, it's not easy to get, what they call, " vetted "... Your  report is exactly what CNN wants from iReporters like you.  I hope that helps.
