Overheard on Advertising the Apocalypse

Comment of the day: "I guess heaven needs to be dusted and vacuumed, what with all of those guests arriving so soon.” --DoctorOD

Road trip to the end of the world

If you were thinking you’ve got plenty of time before the end of the world, you apparently haven’t heard what’s going to happen on May 21, according to Christian broadcasting ministry Family Radio. Our story about a caravan trip advertising the imminent day of doom brought almost 10,000 comments, and readers are still writing. ChitownJason said, “Oh, take that, Mayans! You've been one-upped!”

Many wrote to request a follow-up story after the predicted date of Judgment Day. psmail2 asked, “Is there an app available so we can see what happens to this group on May 21 and May 22?”

Others were deeply concerned for the children involved. 2Buddesatva said, “These folks are mentally unbalanced. The kindest thing that we can do for them is get all of them into a program and I would strongly advise taking the children away. This thing smacks of a suicide cult. The state needs to intervene now before people, specifically children end up getting hurt.”

grafixer123 agreed. “Has anyone considered that these people believe strongly in this, or they would not dump their possessions and join a caravan to tell the world about it? It is likely that they have an ‘exit plan’ of their own. This smacks of a KoolAid ending to me. I hope the authorities are ready at least to save the children that are with them.”

Others were not so worried.  Wzrd1 said, “I'd think it's hilarious, save for the children being dragged around and programmed. Still, a great educational lesson will be given those children on May 22nd.” KritterKat said, “What are the addresses of these people who left behind valuable antique collections with their doors unlocked? Sounds like a great investment idea!”

Oh, and speaking of children, takingsides said, “Hey, that's around the time my baby is due. Ultrasounds haven't told us whether or not he/she is Jesus Christ yet. But we were stuck on coming up with a boy name.” KritterKat responded, “Are you a virgin?”

Modern-day slavery: A problem that can’t be ignored

On a much darker note, the launching of a series on human trafficking is bringing out readers’ suggestions, stories and offers of help.  Mountainmamajo said, “I applaud your effort. This is sorely needed. I would ask that you include child brides in your definition of slavery.”

Diana Lynn Ellinghouse said, “I am grateful to see news coverage of this. Fifty-five years after the experience, I am forced to relive violent prostitution in flashbacks of early childhood. My mind was shattered along with my bones. Seeing video of men my age sobbing with similar memories helped me to speak out. CNN's work will give voice to others.”

Elsie said, “When I was seven I was forced to work. I had to clean floors from 3 am to 6 pm; the days I refused to do it, I had no food. Now I live in America, I have two little girls, and I still don’t understand how in this century there are too many children enduring all kind of pain and sorrow. I cry every time I read this kind of news. Those years left a deep mark in my heart.”

Patrick Dunn said, “In Ottawa, a Canadian student (adult at the time) told me she and a friend were duped into getting jobs in Europe while they were teenagers. They were then forced into prostitution, kept under 24-hour watch, and moved from place to place throughout Germany for four years before they escaped. They had no idea where they were (Frankfurt, as it turned out) but found the police and returned to Canada. CNN, with its worldwide resources, can be this catalyst for long-overdue change And please don't let this be a ratings, flash-in-the-pan operation. Please tell me how I can help. There are, I am sure, many out here who feel as I do and are ready to do our part. Thank you, CNN, for this. I'm ready!!!”

Capt. Kirk wakes up shuttle crew

The crew of the space shuttle Discovery might have thought they were on a very different starship this morning. The voice of fictional Capt. James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise awoke them with the well-known words, “Space, the final frontier.” Tcmlee said, "Discovery to Earth, seven to beam down." cerulamania said, “So much for the non-interference directive.”

Many were shocked to realize how much time had passed since the glory days of the “Star Trek” TV series.  ObvUsername said, “Holy cow! Shatner is almost 80?” sthbdr said, “Could have fooled me. He has the energy of one half his age and looks about 20 years younger than his age. Long Live Captain Kirk!” beachreport! said, “Live long and prosper, my friend.”

Others lauded “Star Trek” for inspiring some advances in technology.  fleetingfree said, “As we walk around with communicators in our pocket it is good to remember that we can make our dreams real. We may not be able to bend time yet but we have an idea.” Anolderguy said, “Excellent! Science fiction feeds the hunger for science research and real research feeds good science fiction! Good job, Mr. Shatner!”

Cricket0228 said, “Many people became interested in the space program because of "Star Trek." We have flip-phones, Bluetooth, computers on desktops, and even Kindle because the ideas for these now-common devices came from the various Trek series. The US Navy restructured the bridges on ships to the round design of the Enterprise because it was more efficient. Maybe you don't like Shatner or Trek, but the various incarnations of the show have certainly impacted our lives.“

rain4st said, “Shatner’s inclusion this morning was a sweet reminder of an earlier time in our nation when programs like "Star Trek" inspired millions to believe there was something more to the universe than empty blackness and burning balls of hot gas.“ newsound said, “I'll never forget the first shuttle launch. It was the Columbia, 1981. I was glued to the TV and my heart was racing as the countdown progressed. That was a very proud day for America. My, how things have changed.”

Judgement day.

This is what will happen.

True believers in Jesus will be raptured.  Then the seven year period will begin with a great leader makes peace with Israel.  After 3 1/2 years, he will break the peace agreement and begin killing the people of Israel.  At the end of the seven years, the battle of Armageddon will happen.  Jesus will then return in glory and put an end to all fighting and set up his 1000 year kingdom.  At the end of the 1000 years, Satan will arise and lead mankind against those that were saved during the 1000 years.  After all that, God will destroy heaven and earth and make a new heaven and earth.

No one knows when Jesus will return only God. Read the of Matthew, Luke, Thessalonians, and Mark. It says that no one will know the day or the hour that our Savior shall return but He is returning soon. Everyone confess your sins, turn from your wicked ways. Ask Jesus Christ to come into your hearts. Accept Him as your Savior before it is too late. Jesus is the only way to life. John 6 47-48.

Stock market crashes, recessions, terrorism, end of the world. All mechanisms of distraction while government(s) do whatever it is they are up to. My guess, the middle east will be taken over via a collective effort by the US, China, Russia, and some others. Those countries will fight over control, China or the US obviously winning which will lead to a global dictatorship as China / US enables a global Oil embargo.

For years people have been predicting the rapture.

Harold Camping, the guy behind this prediction, has been wrong before in 1988 and 1994. A whole lot of other people made fools of themselves around the year 2000.

If you actually bother to read the bible, it says that Jesus will come like a thief in the night and no man will know the day or the hour of his coming.

STLCards, this is what will happen

Judgement day

1) a bunch of gullible idiots will give away all their belongings because they are sure of the day of the rapture, and the date of the day of rapture.

2)  The day after the day of rapture, the gullible idiots will still be on earth, minus their belongs, and the rest of us will point and laugh.

3)  The easter bunny isn't real either, loser.

May 21st 2011 will come and go just like any other day. People have been predicting the end of the world for centuries. How many predictions will it take for people to realize that these people are just a bunch of crazy loonitics that believe in fairy tales. May 21st 2011 will come and go just like any other day. People have been predicting the end of the world for centuries. How many predictions will it take for people to realize that these people are just a bunch of crazy lunatics that believe in fairytales?  Here is a list of failed end of the world predictions…

2nd Century CE: Prophets and Prophetesses of the Montanist movement predicted that Jesus would return sometime during their lifetime and establish the New Jerusalem in the city of Pepuza in Asia Minor.

90 CE: Saint Clement 1 predicted that the world end would occur at any moment.

365 CE: A man by the name of Hilary of Poitiers, announced that the end would happen that year. It didn't.

375 to 400 CE: Saint Martin of Tours, a student of Hilary, was convinced that the end would happen sometime before 400 CE.

500 CE: This was the first year-with-a-nice-round-number-panic.   The antipope Hippolytus and an earlier Christian academic Sextus Julius Africanus had predicted Armageddon at about this year.

968 CE: An eclipse was interpreted as a prelude to the end of the world by the army of the German emperor Otto III.

1000-JAN-1: Many Christians in Europe had predicted the end of the world on this date. As the date approached, Christian armies waged war against some of the Pagan countries in Northern Europe. The motivation was to convert them all to Christianity, by force if necessary, before Christ returned in the year 1000. Meanwhile, some Christians had given their possessions to the Church in anticipation of the end. Fortunately, the level of education was so low that many citizens were unaware of the year. They did not know enough to be afraid. Otherwise, the panic might have been far worse than it was. Unfortunately, when Jesus did not appear, the church did not return the gifts. Serious criticism of the Church followed. The Church reacted by exterminating some heretics. Agitation settled down quickly, as it later did in the year 2000.

1033: Some believed this to be the 1000th anniversary of the death and resurrection of Jesus. His second coming was anticipated. Jesus' actual date of execution is unknown, but is believed to be in the range of 27 to 33 CE.

1147: Gerard of Poehlde decided that the millennium had actually started in 306 CE during Constantine's reign. Thus, the world end was expected in 1306 CE.

1179: John of Toledo predicted the end of the world during 1186. This estimate was based on the alignment of many planets.

1205: Joachim of Fiore predicted in 1190 that the Antichrist was already in the world, and that King Richard of England would defeat him. The Millennium would then begin, sometime before 1205

1669: The Old Believers in Russia believed that the end of the world would occur in this year. 20 thousand burned themselves to death between 1669 and 1690 to protect themselves from the Antichrist.

1689: Benjamin Keach, a 17th century Baptist, predicted the end of the world for this year.

1736: British theologian and mathematician William Whitson predicted a great flood similar to Noah's for OCT-13 of this year.

1792: This was the date of the end of the world calculated by some believers in the Shaker movement.

1794: Charles Wesley, one of the founders of Methodism, thought Doomsday would be in this year.

1832?: Joseph Smith (1805-1844) was the founder of the Church of Christ, “I prophesy in the name of the Lord God, and let it be written--the Son of Man will not come in the clouds of heaven till I am eighty-five years old." 17

1843-MAR-21: William Miller, founder of the Millerite movement, predicted that Jesus would come on this date. A very large number of Christians accepted his prophecy.

1844-OCT-22: When Jesus did not return, Miller predicted this new date. In an event which is now called "The Great Disappointment," many Christians sold their property and possessions, quit their jobs and prepared themselves for the second coming. Nothing happened; the day came and went without incident.

1850: Ellen White, founder of the Seven Day Adventists movement, made many predictions of the timing of the end of the world. All failed. On 1850-JUN-27 she prophesied that only a few months remained before the end. She wrote: "My accompanying angel said, 'Time is almost finished. Get ready, get ready, get ready.' time is almost finished...and what we have been years learning, they will have to learn in a few months." 10

1881: Mother Shipton, (1488 - 1561), a 16th century mystic predicted the end of the world: "...The world to an end shall come; in eighteen hundred and eighty-one."

1891 or before: On 1835-FEB-14, Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon church, attended a meeting of church leaders. He said that the meeting had been called

Continued...because God had commanded it. He announced that Jesus would return within 56 years -- i.e. before 1891-FEB-15. (History of the Church 2:182)

1914 was one of the more important estimates of the start of the war of Armageddon by the Jehovah's Witnesses (Watchtower Bible and Tract Society). They based their prophecy of 1914 from prophecy in the book of Daniel, Chapter 4. The writings referred to "seven times". The WTS interpreted each "time" as equal to 360 days, giving a total of 2520 days. This was further interpreted as representing 2520 years, measured from the starting date of 607 BCE. This gave 1914 as the target date. When 1914 passed, they changed their prediction; 1914 became the year that Jesus invisibly began his rule.

Actually it was 1918 when Christ Ahnsahnhong was born, he was baptized 1948. That very year, Isreal and Korea became a country again and declared independence this was a prophecy after Isreal not being a country for almost 2000 years. He reigned for 37 years  to fulfill Prophetical King David. Jesus reigned on Davids throne(Isaiah 9:6) King David was annointed at age 30, reigned 40 years(2 Sam 5:4). Jesus, annointed(baptized at age 30, reigned only 3 years.(Remaining 37). But he will return a 2nd time(Heb 9:28). Christ Ahnsahnhong reined 37 years. He is Prophetical David, and we can show you through many other Prophecies and undoubtable truth that he is 2nd Coming Christ. And brought our Heavenly Mother Jerusalem. How can there be a Father(God) without a Mother(God) Gen 1:26. LISTEN TO WHOEVER SPEAKS TO YOU ABOUT HEAVENLY MOTHER BECAUSE ONLY SHE CAN GIVE US ETERNAL LIFE.

gishane38, you were close on the Daniel prophecy about 2nd coming. The book of Daniel was written 605 B.C, but Daniel began to have dreams 2 years after his reign(Dan 2:1) were at 603 B.C. 7 Times/years(Dan 4:16 times has a footnote, or years) so 7 Years x 360 days=2520. 603 B.C. plus 2520=1917. But Year 0 doesn't count so its 1918! TRUST ME CHRIST AHNSAHNHONG is 2nd Coming Christ, people may think World Mission Society Church of God is a cult, but its ok because thats what they thought about Jesus and his disciples calling them a sect. So AGAIN I EMPHASIZE, LISTEN TO WHOEVER SPEAKS ABOUT GOD THE MOTHER AND YOU WILL FIND ALL TRUTHS AND TRUE SALVATION BEFORE DESTRUCTION COMES......

Those that have blind faith are just that, blind, in allowing those who can use this faith to convince them about anything they want them to believe. These fanatics forget that all life is short sacred and it does not matter when the end will come. We human beings can not truly predict the end and if God wants to end it then it will end and there nothing we can do about it . It could end with an impact, a massive volcano, or the sun going out. It could end with a nice walk or when sitting down to eat. It is unpredictable, so live your lives in Jesus name and do just that, LIVE. Enjoy you family, your children, the sunrise, the sunset. Love your wife and kids and stop being such downers. If the message was to get people to repent then they picked the wrong way to deliver their message. We have witnessed it before how these fanatics see life. It isn't precious and to them life is so scary to live in. I fear for the children of these adults because they are innocent.

To live life in blind faith is to go through life looking one direction and ignoring the view around us, if we look around we can see his wonders and his hand at work, it could be something as simple as an outstretched hand offering it to you for comfort. Those that use the Bible for their own gains are false prophets in my world.

You are Right Fgarza, people walk blind not know anything. living life and loving and doing good deeds is very good. But what happens when we die? How can you be so sure that you will enter the better life and not the worse life(HEAVEN OR HELL). Think about it, why are humans here? Why no matter what we have money, cars, etc. we will never be fully  happy, and then face death. What happens then. In order to know were we are going, we have to know why we are here. And World Mission Society Church of God will show you why are we all here and no matter what face death. Think about it, we only have physical life because of our mother, even plants and animals. And God is Father, but no one knows about God the Mother, only can Mother give life. Passover is the only way. And the bible is like a map to salvation(B asic I nstructions B efore L eaving E arth=BIBLE) but the world uses it with there own mind, guiding themselves to destruction. Only the Root of David can unseal the Scroll(Bible) Rev 5:5). GOD THE MOTHER IS HERE, 2nd Coming Christ already Came, FOLLOW who speaks about God the Mother and Keep PASSOVER!!!!!

I think Family Radio's claim is MISLEADING for two reasons:

1. If you read the Holy Bible and trust its contents, then refer to:

Matthew 24:36

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, (nor the Son) but only the Father.

Mark 13:32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

2. Family Radio's website has a DISCLAIMER (for their safety "in case" their "prediction" fails:

"But MAYBE, there was hope that Holy God might change His mind and instead have mercy on them. The Bible tells us in Jonah 3:6-9:"

Family Radio's predictions are not inspired by the Holy Spirit and is clearly meant to MISLEAD us. I am even surprised that it was published on CNN and elsewhere.
