I think its awfully hypocratic for congress to cut federal jobs and services yet they still get paid. Maybe the congress should work pro bono until they can agree on a budget and see how they like it!

Here's an idea...How about every American sleeps late this Monday and doesn't show up to work. Then we can all pay $3.80 for a gallon of gas and fill up our cars. Then we can all drive down to Washington D.C. and see if the American people don't have some ideas for s.ome budget cuts. Yeah, I bet we could work it out.

How about we completely pull are armies out of the Middle East. You're telling me our billion dollar defense infrastructure and satellite capabilities can't keep tabs on terrorists. Why are we giving billions annually to the Department of homeland security? The American people don't consider Fusion Centers to be necassary. The U.S. Patriot Act is in total contradiction with the Bill of Rights. Get rid of homeland security! Budget cut #1!

Reform #1 Get rid of all current members of congress.

Reform #2 Repeal U.S. Patriot Act and all subsequent and related bills and executive orders pertaining to above amendment.

Reform #3 Get rid of Department of homeland security.

Reform #4 Pull back forces from Middle East and Make the Middle Eastern people aware that America is leaving the solution to their issues in their hands. we have a myriad of problems domestically to deal with.

I see you've both just joined our community, which is awesome. If you have any questions about how things work on the site feel free to ask away.

Discontinue grant funding to all 72 Fusion Centers statewide. There's a reasonable budget cut!!! Reduce Law enforcement, another cut! Have the National gaurd take over for F.E.M.A. and shut them down!

While we're waiting for folks to come by, I want to talk about something that comes up a lot with new iReporters.

We frequently have people ask what they should do if they don't see an assignment for a story they're working on.

In cases like that, feel free to post it with no category. Our assignments are suggestions and help us organize iReports for projects we're working on.

We check the feed of iReports all the time and are always delighted when we see stories on topics we hadn't heard about.

I haven't started anything yet but I had an idea about a story on citizen science and how the internet allows amature science buffs like myself contribute data to researchers in various fields like astronomy, weather, physics and such by deploying cameras and sensors around the world and sending that data back to centralized researchers who otherwise would wouldn't have access to such broad samples...... whew!

Funny how the only people we are hearing from concerning the possible budget stalemate and impending govt shutdown are our politicians. When will uniformed personnel and the 800,000 federal workers (myself included) hear from the myriad of creditors out there? What kind of provisions will they make for non payment of debts because of this? They know it's coming and we should be hearing from them as well. Pretty sad!

None would probably be the best category.

Everything that is uploaded to iReport goes into this feed http://ireport.cnn.com/recent-updates.jspa

We are always checking it and looking for interesting new stories.

We can also move an iReport into a different category if we think it belongs there.

As far as the budget is concerned. Maybe we should use just plain common sence. Everyone should understand. We are all the USA. If government would just get off that high horse. What benefits the USA as a whole right now? Prioratize...for now. Medicare and Vets and others should not be effected it's just where they put the most emphasis. What about those billions of dollars our taxes are paying for building Mosque in other countries? Americans can we afford to do that? We should also do some in dept investigating on SOME who get Medicaid and SOME who get Disability. Ask some of our retirees and students if they would voluteer a couple of hours to help uncover some of the fraud out there. Give students college credits. We love our Country but does our Country love us. If those who hold office owe someone who helped them get into office. Give them an IOU and tell them you'll get back to them later.

SOME of those earmarks can wait until we get things in order. Some are the most rediculous things I have ever heard of. Some Investigative Reporter should follow the trail, of some of those earmarks and see where they end. Why hasn't anyone done that.

We are paying out the ear not just to government but we the USA are also having to pay in our own individual states for their irrisponisbility. Rd taxes, land taxes, wheel taxes, the values of our homes are down but our taxes are still increasing. We should have a place where individuals from each state can go in and as taxes are added to your state you can put it on that page what the tax is for and what state and city it's applied to. So we can see how crazy out of hand this is getting and hopefully a way for us to come together and make a stand. We The People, all people all races, all, should come together not as dem or rep just as people who care and love the USA.  It's time to get responsible people in office too. Oh, for the record, those who hold office should have a clear record and not owe. You should be held up to the same standard as the other citizens of the USA. Sorry about the spelling.

Hello,  I am a government employee.  I work for the IRS. I just heard that in case of a shut down, our area will be closed but we will continue to work without pay.  In the last shut down in 1995 before I worked for the IRS they did get paid retro-active.  My situation is different.  On Monday I had surgery and have FMLA papers for 3 weeks of leave.  This is leave that I saved up for such things as this!  I was anticipating to be paid for the three weeks I will be off recovering.  Now, I have been told that if I am not there working, I will be put into non-pay or furlough until the government re-opens and all return to work.  Only advantage I see is, that I won't use as much of my time as anticipated.  But, it is with-out pay.  Congress doesn't get it.  This is how the real world works and lives.  They will still get their pay regardless!

I'm currently a Commander in the United States Army with over a decade of service.  I just received multiple emails from my Soldiers that they only received half pay this month!! I checked my paycheck and so did I.  What in the world is this administration doing and what will the mortgage and rental agencies say when Soldiers can not pay their bills?  When the families of deployed service members are left with next to nothing this month!!

April 8, 2011

@SSG11B....that is my point exactly!! If no resolution has happened "yet" why then do all military pay statements released today reflect a government shutdown more than 7 hours BEFORE the deadline?

I have a solution to the budget problem.  Let's propose an amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America that states the following:

1.  No more career politicians

2.  2 year term limit for any office in the country

After their 2 year limit they get a job (like the rest of us)

3.  No more medical

4.  No more pension

5.  No more secret service

I don't think it will take long to balance the budget, do you?

After watching the news footage from the Ivory Coast of UN helicopters reigning down fire on the presidential palace in the diplomatic & civilian residential area of the neighborhood of Cocody (I am an American who lived not far from there for 9 years) I just wonder if the UN will ever be able to recover and appear to be a neutral 'peacekeeping' force ever again. When you have the French with their own troops and equipment on the ground there coordinating with UN Undersecretary for Peacekeeping Mr. Alain Le Roy, also a Frenchman, one must wonder whose interests are really being served here. After all, keeping intact the Colonial Pact created in 1960 by Charles DeGaulle to retain control of the financial interests of France in their colonies who were just beginning to cry for independence is of greater benefit to the French than allowing a sovereign state to work out it's own problems within the framework of their own constitution. And for the UN to be manipulated like a puppet has to embarass the Secretary General. It infuriates me. After all, this is the same body that turned away Rwandans seeking asylum and protection at the UN compound in Kigali during the 100-day genocide, turning them out to be hacked to death. Obviously, it makes a big difference as to who it is that is asking for help from the UN.

In regards to one of Ali Velshi's stories this Sunday morning (during On the Money), I couldn't help but think of another cause for heart attacks other than 11+ hour work days.  My experience when I have had to work consecutive long days, has been that I not only fail to exercise and eat right, but my stress and personal life are adversly affected by not having the time or energy to take care of my personal responsibilities.  I become forgetful and unorganied.  This has resulted in late payments and charges, creditor telephone calls, and my stress level shoots up.  This all negatively impacts my physical and mental wellbeing.  That's when I have to refocus on balance between my work and personal lives and get back on track.  It is so easy to get into a tailspin before you know what's happening.

Cut coporate sponsership. That is the way to decrease the government. Which eats up a large amount of money. If political parties arent allowed donations, and only receive a limited/fixed set of money from the government for an election, or from fundraising. Unless the vote is passed to call an early election. Then a limited/fixed money supply would be available. But, otherwise, no sponsership money. Only those who are passionate, and truly care about the people will fundraise to stay in the game. Fundrasing requires tax receipts.
