As you most know a 6.5 earthquake HIT the coast of VERACRUZ MEXICO and unfortunately there is a NUCLEAR PLANT in VERACRUZ very old, somebody most report that.
Thursday 7th April, 2011 - Time 10.00 p.m.
I am already nodding my sleepy head on the key board, but I want to leave this message, and say A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO TEAM ireport for my Spirit Honoree Award which I received this afternoon. Thank you too, to all my ireporter friends, for their help and support in everyway.
I wish when uploading video files it would upload sooner, is there someway that this could be speeded up? The file size that I upload are all small.
I think its awfully hypocratic for congress to cut federal jobs and services yet they still get paid. Maybe the congress should work pro bono until they can agree on a budget and see how they like it!
Here's an idea...How about every American sleeps late this Monday and doesn't show up to work. Then we can all pay $3.80 for a gallon of gas and fill up our cars. Then we can all drive down to Washington D.C. and see if the American people don't have some ideas for s.ome budget cuts. Yeah, I bet we could work it out.
How about we completely pull are armies out of the Middle East. You're telling me our billion dollar defense infrastructure and satellite capabilities can't keep tabs on terrorists. Why are we giving billions annually to the Department of homeland security? The American people don't consider Fusion Centers to be necassary. The U.S. Patriot Act is in total contradiction with the Bill of Rights. Get rid of homeland security! Budget cut #1!
Sorry I'm late.
I'm so glad your trophy got there sunethra. It was really well deserved.
I saw your dance video a few minutes ago. It was fun.
I'm curious, do they show Conan O'Brien in Sri Lanka?
Reform #1 Get rid of all current members of congress.
Reform #2 Repeal U.S. Patriot Act and all subsequent and related bills and executive orders pertaining to above amendment.
Reform #3 Get rid of Department of homeland security.
Reform #4 Pull back forces from Middle East and Make the Middle Eastern people aware that America is leaving the solution to their issues in their hands. we have a myriad of problems domestically to deal with.
Hi ricksho and clearinfo. It's nice to have you.
I would encourage you to file iReports about those stories.
I see you've both just joined our community, which is awesome. If you have any questions about how things work on the site feel free to ask away.
Discontinue grant funding to all 72 Fusion Centers statewide. There's a reasonable budget cut!!! Reduce Law enforcement, another cut! Have the National gaurd take over for F.E.M.A. and shut them down!
Hello... I just got up in time to be here, No they don't show Conon O Brian... but sometimes I have seen him on TV David
While we're waiting for folks to come by, I want to talk about something that comes up a lot with new iReporters.
We frequently have people ask what they should do if they don't see an assignment for a story they're working on.
In cases like that, feel free to post it with no category. Our assignments are suggestions and help us organize iReports for projects we're working on.
We check the feed of iReports all the time and are always delighted when we see stories on topics we hadn't heard about.
I was wondering. I thought your dance was really fun.
Thank you, I was just playing about. Hey where is everyone ?
Hi DaElmer -- I heard you were on air a little while ago.
Not sure where everyone is. I was running a bit late today. everyone else probably is too.
Everyone is too concerned about the shutdown..
My kids saw me on TV, I was on the phone.. Missed it.. lol
I didn't get to see it either. Henry told me about it. He sees all.
So is anyone out there working on anything interesting?
Hi Kevinp -- welcome. It's nice to have you.
Just current RIP Pages I have on FaceBook for fallen Police Officers..
I just droped in to say hi and say that I enjoy being an iReporter.
hi the pizzaman, glad you could drop by. nice to have you.
I saw that you've been posting those, DaElmer. Glad it's going well.
Hey KCRep. How's it going?
Hi Paul, how are you?
I have been doing more on facebook than CNN... I guess I could post Pictures with the RIP Page.. Hmm...
It's going great David. I just bought a new TV last night, I think my old was was wearing out
Thanks David not a whole lot to report from here in Vermont lately. Hi KC, Shari, DaElmer, and Kevinp.
Just in time for May sweeps and all the finales. Good timing KCRep
I haven't started anything yet but I had an idea about a story on citizen science and how the internet allows amature science buffs like myself contribute data to researchers in various fields like astronomy, weather, physics and such by deploying cameras and sensors around the world and sending that data back to centralized researchers who otherwise would wouldn't have access to such broad samples...... whew!
Hello Henry, Pizzaman, Shari and Jason
That sounds really cool Kevinp -- I just saw something a few minutes ago from some scientists who got their facebook friends to help them identify hundreds of fish. They said they were able to do weeks worth of work in just a day or two.
It helped that their facebook friends included some of the top icthyologists in the world, but it's still cool.
I also spelled icthyologist wrong.
Hi, I'm new to i-Reports. How do you first learn about assignments when they come out? Are all of them listed on the assignments page? Is there an announcement?
There are a couple of ways to find assignments.
First you can check out the assignment desk: http://ireport.cnn.com/community/assignment
We also feature four stories on the front page of the iReport section.
I've started shooting some video and I'm going to try to get some of the researchers I know to answer some questions.. record them and send me audio filesof their answers. We'll see what I can come up with! LOL!
I'm popping in and out- In the process of handing a RIP Page over to the Police Officers he worked with..
We do make site announcements on occasion, like with this roundtable.
Sounds fun Kevinp -- you might also try reaching them over skype. might be an easier way to record the conversation.
@Henry, I have this certain mother trying to figure out why it didn't get vetted.. she is on my back..
Funny how the only people we are hearing from concerning the possible budget stalemate and impending govt shutdown are our politicians. When will uniformed personnel and the 800,000 federal workers (myself included) hear from the myriad of creditors out there? What kind of provisions will they make for non payment of debts because of this? They know it's coming and we should be hearing from them as well. Pretty sad!
Should sports stories/more issue oriented sports stories be submitted under "Upload" with no topic selected?
I'm here. Sorry for being tardy!
hello, love ireport, but can we take off the not vetted label at the top of unvetted ireport photos...not move it get rid of it. thanks
@David - I sent you an email earlier this week. Did you get it? The corrections have not been made.
We've heard from a lot of military families on CNN iReport who share your concerns.
Here's a link to our assignment where you can share your thoughts, concerns and experience
Sorry to hear that JoyfulGypsy. I sent that on to the producer who handled that interactive. I'll check back with her.
Successfully added a 911 dispatcher to one of my RIP Pages just now, the family will get this page tonight.. FaceBook gives me a way to gift others who I don't know.. What a feeling..
Hi DavidFullard -- We aren't planning to get rid of the banner at this time.
It is very important that our audience can tell instantly that CNN either has verified an iReport and it's even more important for folks to be able to tell what isn't verified.
Thanks, David. Have a great day, everyone. :o)
None would probably be the best category.
Everything that is uploaded to iReport goes into this feed http://ireport.cnn.com/recent-updates.jspa
We are always checking it and looking for interesting new stories.
We can also move an iReport into a different category if we think it belongs there.
Welcome @ChrisKohatsu and @DavidFullard!
@dsashin - I really enjoyed doing the Royal Wedding Hat challenge. There is a beautiful Peacock/lampshade hat along with the owner is also very beautiful. I like that hat she has made
daphne had to run to a meeting, but we all loved your hats.
I'd like to encourage everyone to give it a try. We made some at work and it was a lot of fun.
Here's a link to the assignment http://ireport.cnn.com/ir-topic-stories.jspa?topicId=585048
Thinks I will load a few I-Reports of the RIP Pages out there right now, TOO MANY Police Officer deaths recently...
Thanks for the answers! The community is very welcoming and supportive. Lots of interesting journalism here, too. Got to run ...
Great DaElmer - we'll keep an eye out.
Thanks everyone. I've got to go too. We'll be back next week.
Thanks @all see you next week!
I think I am off to bed again, Time here is 1.35 a.m. Good night everyone or Good Morning.
hello everybody from Italy here it is midnight we are six hours ahead of youù
On CNNHD at approx 1930; I hate to tell CNN but there are more state with Federal Employees than they showed on the newscast. I be one; and the state where I live and am employed (for today) wasn't shown as having any federal employees.
If the government shuts down, we will die.
That is all
Good day to you all
As far as the budget is concerned. Maybe we should use just plain common sence. Everyone should understand. We are all the USA. If government would just get off that high horse. What benefits the USA as a whole right now? Prioratize...for now. Medicare and Vets and others should not be effected it's just where they put the most emphasis. What about those billions of dollars our taxes are paying for building Mosque in other countries? Americans can we afford to do that? We should also do some in dept investigating on SOME who get Medicaid and SOME who get Disability. Ask some of our retirees and students if they would voluteer a couple of hours to help uncover some of the fraud out there. Give students college credits. We love our Country but does our Country love us. If those who hold office owe someone who helped them get into office. Give them an IOU and tell them you'll get back to them later.
SOME of those earmarks can wait until we get things in order. Some are the most rediculous things I have ever heard of. Some Investigative Reporter should follow the trail, of some of those earmarks and see where they end. Why hasn't anyone done that.
We are paying out the ear not just to government but we the USA are also having to pay in our own individual states for their irrisponisbility. Rd taxes, land taxes, wheel taxes, the values of our homes are down but our taxes are still increasing. We should have a place where individuals from each state can go in and as taxes are added to your state you can put it on that page what the tax is for and what state and city it's applied to. So we can see how crazy out of hand this is getting and hopefully a way for us to come together and make a stand. We The People, all people all races, all, should come together not as dem or rep just as people who care and love the USA. It's time to get responsible people in office too. Oh, for the record, those who hold office should have a clear record and not owe. You should be held up to the same standard as the other citizens of the USA. Sorry about the spelling.
That was a really long post, and completely unnecessary. Make it short and sweet.
Thats really cool and i think that you should put more pic up there 4 people 2 c
Obama is disgusting
Where'd everybody goooo? Huhhhh?
We need to do a governemnt shut down. Drive your car to the highway. Turn off the car. Then sit in our lawn chairs...
You know I don't think our Military should be used in any way shape or form as a weapon in order for government to pass their own agendas. Leave our Military out of your, Lets Make A Deal escapades.
God Bless Our Military all over the world. USA.......
Yeah the post is kinda of long, but,I just had to write it. Have you ever felt like you just had to do something no matter what feed back you got?
Thanks for the input, and thanks for reading.
Hello, I am a government employee. I work for the IRS. I just heard that in case of a shut down, our area will be closed but we will continue to work without pay. In the last shut down in 1995 before I worked for the IRS they did get paid retro-active. My situation is different. On Monday I had surgery and have FMLA papers for 3 weeks of leave. This is leave that I saved up for such things as this! I was anticipating to be paid for the three weeks I will be off recovering. Now, I have been told that if I am not there working, I will be put into non-pay or furlough until the government re-opens and all return to work. Only advantage I see is, that I won't use as much of my time as anticipated. But, it is with-out pay. Congress doesn't get it. This is how the real world works and lives. They will still get their pay regardless!
I am a SSG in the Army and just to let everyone know my pay on my leave and earnings statement already reflects the shutdown
I'm currently a Commander in the United States Army with over a decade of service. I just received multiple emails from my Soldiers that they only received half pay this month!! I checked my paycheck and so did I. What in the world is this administration doing and what will the mortgage and rental agencies say when Soldiers can not pay their bills? When the families of deployed service members are left with next to nothing this month!!
@SSG11B....that is my point exactly!! If no resolution has happened "yet" why then do all military pay statements released today reflect a government shutdown more than 7 hours BEFORE the deadline?
if the government shutdown, the soldiers wont get pay. I have a solution. Let the congres not getting pay. You will see how fast they will come to a decision!!~
I have a solution to the budget problem. Let's propose an amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America that states the following:
1. No more career politicians
2. 2 year term limit for any office in the country
After their 2 year limit they get a job (like the rest of us)
3. No more medical
4. No more pension
5. No more secret service
I don't think it will take long to balance the budget, do you?
After watching the news footage from the Ivory Coast of UN helicopters reigning down fire on the presidential palace in the diplomatic & civilian residential area of the neighborhood of Cocody (I am an American who lived not far from there for 9 years) I just wonder if the UN will ever be able to recover and appear to be a neutral 'peacekeeping' force ever again. When you have the French with their own troops and equipment on the ground there coordinating with UN Undersecretary for Peacekeeping Mr. Alain Le Roy, also a Frenchman, one must wonder whose interests are really being served here. After all, keeping intact the Colonial Pact created in 1960 by Charles DeGaulle to retain control of the financial interests of France in their colonies who were just beginning to cry for independence is of greater benefit to the French than allowing a sovereign state to work out it's own problems within the framework of their own constitution. And for the UN to be manipulated like a puppet has to embarass the Secretary General. It infuriates me. After all, this is the same body that turned away Rwandans seeking asylum and protection at the UN compound in Kigali during the 100-day genocide, turning them out to be hacked to death. Obviously, it makes a big difference as to who it is that is asking for help from the UN.
Good evening everyone. I wanted to stop in earlier, however, situations are not always as we wish here in Bangor, Maine. I just wanted to let everyone know i enjoy the uploads, and the posts. I have been given a great deal of knowledge just being here, reinforcing the fact i do not know all the answers, and with the help of you all, i'm finally bridging that gap. Again, i thank you all.
For persons born between December 24, 1952 and November 14, 1986, a person is a U.S. citizen if all of the following are true (except if born out-of-wedlock):
1.The person's parents were married at the time of birth
2.One of the person's parents was a U.S. citizen when the person was born
3.The citizen parent lived at least ten years in the United States before the child's birth;
4.A minimum of 5 of these 10 years in the United States were after the citizen parent's 14th birthday.
In regards to one of Ali Velshi's stories this Sunday morning (during On the Money), I couldn't help but think of another cause for heart attacks other than 11+ hour work days. My experience when I have had to work consecutive long days, has been that I not only fail to exercise and eat right, but my stress and personal life are adversly affected by not having the time or energy to take care of my personal responsibilities. I become forgetful and unorganied. This has resulted in late payments and charges, creditor telephone calls, and my stress level shoots up. This all negatively impacts my physical and mental wellbeing. That's when I have to refocus on balance between my work and personal lives and get back on track. It is so easy to get into a tailspin before you know what's happening.
Cut coporate sponsership. That is the way to decrease the government. Which eats up a large amount of money. If political parties arent allowed donations, and only receive a limited/fixed set of money from the government for an election, or from fundraising. Unless the vote is passed to call an early election. Then a limited/fixed money supply would be available. But, otherwise, no sponsership money. Only those who are passionate, and truly care about the people will fundraise to stay in the game. Fundrasing requires tax receipts.
gulley 55 I like your solution to cut down the government deficit
It could be applied even in Europe
66% of people SUPPORT RAISING TAXES ON THE VERY WEALTHY TO FIX THE BUDGET -- WE NEED THIS MONEY LIKE WE HAD IN THE 1990's
BBC NEWS reported the on April 13th..
WHY ISN'T CNN REPORTING THIS?
Obama having to prove he was born in the united states? common when will this shit end. Just another example of how black people always have to go the extra mile just to be themselves. No other president has had this burden of proof put on them. Just another way of showing how certain ass holes in america are so racist.
