CNN iReport roundtable: Destination Adventure edition

Next week, we’ll be kicking off a summer travel special called Destination Adventure. The series will provide an in-depth look an interesting locations around the world, thanks to iReporters' photos, tips, videos and more.

Our first stop will be Pamplona, Spain, home of the famous San Fermin festival, which features the running of the bulls. (Check out yesterday's iReport blog post to read some tips for visiting Pamplona and to share your own.)

Today, we’ll give you a sneak peek of some of the future destinations we’ll visit and answer any questions you may have about travel reporting and photography. Comments will open at 3 p.m. ET. See you then!

PLEASE NOTE: Destination Adventure has been delayed until July 25. Please continue to tune in to the iReport blog for more announcements on the release of Destination Adventure.

Hello GHung! It should be fun. As you saw above, our first location is Pamplona. After that, we're looking for photos and videos from Alaska (http://ireport.cnn.com/topics/623426), Machu Picchu (http://ireport.cnn.com/topics/623429) and Hong Kong (http://ireport.cnn.com/topics/628866). Ever been to any of those locations?

Sunny Spain always welcomes tourists arriving to Madrid as a starting point for pilgrimages to UNESCO World Heritage Centers such as Seville, Andalucía, Córdoba, La Mancha, El Escorial, Salamanca, Toledo, and other historic sites in Spain.

So, just to give you guys the scoop: Destination Adventure is a 3-month special that will replace Travel Snapshots during that time. Just like Snapshots, we'll be focusing on a new location each week, but we'll also be looking for videos and tips from iReporters. We'll also focus on food and other aspects of each location.

@markpel - I hope you do find them! At the very least, you'll have to stop by and give us some tips when the time comes.

Starting today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be touring Canada from East to West. I remember visiting the Capillano Bridge in British Columbia, the Waterfall at Montmorency, Bay of Gaspé by the Hudson, Montréal, St. Lawrence River in Ville de Québec, Calgary and Banff by Lake Louise and the Canadian Rockies, Toronto, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and other Canadian provinces for wilderness experiences and mountain climbing.

In the U.S.A., well, since you are featuring Pamplona and San Fermín, I recall meeting Ernest Hemingway when he lived at La Vigía near La Habana, Cuba where he wrote The Old Man and the Sea.  Hemingway's family home is in Oak Park, Illinois featuring his journalistic life and adventure safari travel in Africa.

Katie, we should talk.  I've been doing a lot of research on Mount Kilimanjaro and the distinctly different climate levels up the mountain are very interesting.  Also, at the rate the glacier on the summit is melting now, it will be completely gone in the next 20 years?  I really want to see and experience that before I die. ;o)

Is anyone going to Turkey in the Middle East this summer?  When I visited Istanbul with Turkish-American friends, we visited the Bosphorus, the Blue Mosque Topkapi, and the Bizantine Church of Aya Sophia, the Open Market. Then we travelled along the Aegen to Antalya, Marmaris, and Side looking for historic and ancient sites with religious references to Biblical times.

We just played on 2 courses in Michigan.... 1 in Ohio and one in Tenn. You would be surprised how many courses there are up in New York, PA and New England!

We did some hiking and sailed the Great Lakes as well. That was one 2 week vacation where I actually lost weight and came back in better shape than when I left!

To answer Katie's question, the most adventurous trip I've ever been on was to South Africa.  What made it such an adventure is that I got to meet some very interesting people and experience some very different cultures, which gave me a better understanding of the society.  I also challenged myself physically and accomplished things I never thought I could.  I learned a lot about the country and about myself.

Climbing Mount Fugi and hiking the Arctic Circle (Alaska) was pretty cool, too.

June 30, 2011

I meant Mount Fuji (typo)

So one thing that we're really curious about is, what kind of information would be useful to you about an adventure destination? If you haven't been there, how would you like to participate or what would you like to see? If you have been to a place, what would you like to contribute?

June 30, 2011

Hi everyone! I really like this assignment! I have a lot of adventurous stories I could post. New Zealand would be great country assignment for sky diving, bungee jumping, and white water rafting. I agree with joyfulgypsy, south Africa is a great recommendation due to having great white shark cage diving and Kruger national park.

When you visit Cuba, there are always quaint and historic places to visit in La Habana...all the way through the island. Cuba is one of the oldest countries in the New World for the Americas discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492.

We're so sick of CNN's HLN night time "garbage TV" we wanna puke! CNN has sunken to new lows by this Inside Edition, TMZ, National Enquirer mentality. The Nancy Grace's and Jane Valez-Mitchells should be banned from anything resembling reporting. Their biased, prejudied inlamitory commentaries spewed nightly like pea soup from the Exorsist girl viewed by primarily fat welfare women has stirred up so much hate that the lives of the jurors in the Anthony case and Casey herself are in danger. These women and those shows are NOT responsible journalism, but garbage reporting aimed at ratings and cash. We're afraid this junk will go on for month's. CNN's reputation as a responsible news organization is forever trashed.

I do not know if others agree but I am tired of  hearing Mitch Mcconnell talk nonsense.   Public  Administration 101 is that Federal Government needs revenue and foreign investement.   Not raising revenue on the wealthy and taking entitlements aways from the elder is UnAmerican.  Shame on them!!! Not investing on student loans which is investing in education, or not investing in infrastructure is decimating the American Economy.   I am tired of having all our constitutional right hostage by the right wing.  NOthing that they are saying make sense.   Every billionair  pay their fare wage in taxes per capita instead of overcharging the middle class.   These guys are only of their pockets.  Because they are rich.

I watched a report on the ohio police officer who threatened someone with their life and it disturbed me. It brought to mind so many times that this has happened. It seem's like nothing ever happens to these officers except a paid vacation. I think if they had something to loose like their pay from being suspended it might change their minds a bit.Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against the police I just think that their athority as officers of the law goes to their head sometimes. They are ordinary citizens just like you and I.

Great story now on CNN regarding unemployment among Veterans. I would like to suggest a topic that so far no one is willing to deal with. Did you know that there are 1 million vets waiting on compensation for service connected dissability benifits that the VA is taking years to process? So, not only are we bringing the guys and gals home to no jobs, the VA is not able to handle the thousands of dissability claims it recieves weelkly. Please see: the VA's 'Monday Morning Report'

on line.
