Hello iReporters!
Hi everyone, and welcome to the roundtable. It's been a few weeks since we've done this, so let me explain how it works.
You can just leave your questions and comments here in the comments and we'll answer as quickly as possible.
Hello Hello from San Diego!
Hey Chris! Glad to see you at the roundtable!
hello from the UK
Greetings during Summer 2011 to Everyone!
Thanks CCOSTELO3 - I was lucky to be editing when I got the invite. Happy to see you!
What is New for CNN iReporters?
The next two weeks are going to be really big for iReport. As you probably know by now, iReport turns 5 on Tuesday! And we plan on celebrating all month long with iReport birthday meeting around the world. The week after next, Aug.8, we will kick off our boot camp again, which will run through August and into the end of September.
Hello from SoCal
Would it be possible to vet more ireports.
This year's boot camp is going to be a lot different from the previous one, so please tune in on August 8 for all the special details!
We're working on a bunch of stories to show off the amazing content we've gotten over the past 5 years, and we're also working with iReporters to plan a series of parties, all over the world.
The list is getting pretty amazing.

CNN iReport Boot Camp? How Do You Participate?
Hi DavidFullard -- We try to vet as many iReports as we can every day. We've had to focus quite a lot on the debt story today, but we're always looking at what's coming in.
Happy 5th Birthday on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011!
@GHung-We will be giving more details on August 8 (we are keeping parts of it secret until then), but similar to last year, we will have CNN experts sharing storytelling tips and advice and weekly assignments for the community to participate in.
Hi GHung, Here's a link to last year's boot camp to give you an idea of what we're going for. We're going to make a few changes this year, but it's really good information: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2010/bootcamp/
How Do CNN iReporters Meet?
We are very excited about the birthday celebrations. The response has been amazing.
Chris has done a great job with the San Diego event and the folks in Manila are amazing. That's just two of the 59 cities where things are planned.
What we've done is create a meetup everywhere page to help people set up an event.
Then iReporters in various cities have volunteered to help us organize the meetups by picking a date and a location.
We've been passing the links around so folks can RSVP.

@davidw
The San Diego party that I am hosting is going to be amazing. CNN iReporters get free admission and can bring a guest to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park - August 20th - Saturday. Several surprises are in store as well as a killer gift/swag bag from Disney to designer sunblock.
So far we have 55 iReporters attending +1 and I know more just haven't rsvp'd yet. Total will be around 150 - so cool!
Thanks for talking me into organizing it! Will there be CNN Producers attending the parties?
Hey guys!!
Hi Chris,
I'm not sure if anyone from CNN will able to make it in person, but we'd love to skype in and say hi to everyone.
Cortnee is our awesome intern for this summer! She has been vetting debt iReports like crazy today, so if you submitted one you will most likely hear from her!
I also created an iReport on the San Diego party. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions.
CNN Meetup is on Tuesday, August 6th at 6 p.m.
Hi from NYC. Kudos to ChrisMorrow. You're a party planner extraordinaire.
That reminds me, I was supposed to let you all know that we are looking for a new intern for the Fall. If you're a college student, or know a college student who would want to be part of our teem for 12 weeks, check out this link: http://ireport.cnn.com/blogs/ireport-blog/2011/07/28/cnn-ireport-is-looking-for-a-fall-intern
Hello Cortnee - take a look at my torchwood, Seth Green, Kevin Smith, Napoleon Dynamite, Robert Rodriguez iReports please. They were very kind to take the time during Comic-con for CNN iReport. :)
Yes, I can definitely attest to the awesomeness that is Team iReport!
Tuesday August 9th at 6:00 in Chicago at Blackie's
Hi KariJensen and KCRep. Nice to have y'all. If you, or anyone else, has any questions about anything going on on CNN iReport, feel free to ask.
Thanks Kari.
KCRep is joining the San Diego party! Can't wait to meet the great KCRep! :)
Hello, everyone!
Hello, from Vancouver... Very cool!! This my first time logging on to one of these. :)
The bday celebrations coming up next month sound amazing. Wish I were near one of them... (but I'll be away from major cities next month)
A Big Fifth Anniversary For CNN iReporters Around The World!
Hi all. I see Houston as the 4th largest city with the 4th largest contingent for the meetup. ChrisMorrow is cheating by being on top:)
hey ireporters :) I just applied for the fall internship!
@beetraveler
Shame you can't make it to the Vancouver meetup. The Keefer is a great experience. :)
I'd encourage all students to apply for the CNN iReport internship. That sounds like an amazing opportunity.
At the same time, we non-students/post grads can hone our multimedia reporting skills and get feedback from CNN pros via the iReport Boot Camp. Plus it’s free.
I’m looking forward to it and to the iReport Birthday meetup celebrations.
that's too bad beetraveler -- there is one scheduled for Vancouver on August 12
The Comic-con EW reports are really great, by the way!
lol EWillies1961
I'd be at your party if I was in Houston. :)
Hey chensley2! That's awesome!
That's great Chensley2. We'll keep an eye out for it.
I'll just have to be there in spirit. :)
I'll be away the whole month of August in much more remote areas of Canada for the most part...
@beetraveler
I had a lot of fun working with Entertainment Weekly. Was nice having someone else filming, editing, and uploading. :)
Yeah Comic-con went really well! Glad we were able to work with EW this year.
@Chrismorrow
I know
There is a lot planned for August with iReporters Fifth Anniversary and CNN Boot Camp 2011!
@beetraveler: It's my first time, too. This is very cool.
As per the iReport party -- maybe you can plan you're own rural gig.
@chensley2: Good job. Good luck.
Hi GHung, You should do an iReport announcing the Chicago meetup to let folks in the area know. with a link to the rsvp page.
Hey KariJensen! I hope you will tune in on August 8 for iReport boot camp details. It should be a lot of fun this year!
It's abundantly clear Congress is failing to do it's job. The very first item the Treasury should cut on August 3rd is any and all pay, benefits, EVERYTHING each and every member of the House, Senate, and White House receive. Following this, the country as a whole, not just congress, need to review the benefit package members of congress receive as well as place pay and term limits them.
Hey everyone, just wanted to say hi before my shift ends!
Way to go on some super party planning though!! Wow.
...to make up for not being able to attend any, I'll celebrate by working extra hard on my edits and contributing a few great reports in August based on my recent travels. ;)
I'm so looking forward to viewing the reports that others create from the parties though! :)
OK. I Will Do A CNN iReport About Chicago Meetup.
Hi workingman50 - welcome to the roundtable.
Just so you know, this is a forum to talk about story ideas and projects and things that are going on in the iReport community.
I would encourage you to share your thoughts in an iReport, because we're looking for reaction to the situation.
Here's the link.

@ccostello3
The only downfall for Comic-con this year was having the CNNexpress bus and EW, the regular iReports still haven't been vetted or rarely used.
Hi! Not sure if this is the right place to ask. But is a iReport story ever deleted, or made "Not Available" by CNN staff? If so is an email sent to the iReporter explaining why the story was removed?
@KariJensen
another newbie! nice to e-meet you!
Hey Chris,
Henry's been working like crazy to work all the coverage into various blogs and stories.
@GHung - Yay, Chicago meetup! That's my hometown.
So, besides iReport's bday, any other particular focus areas for iReport we should know about over the next couple weeks?
Boot camp will kick off starting August 8 and go until the end of September. Tune in on August 8 for more details. In the meantime, please check out last year's iReport boot camp http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2010/bootcamp/
OK. Windy City Meetup is for Tuesday August 9th at Blackie's, 6:00 p.m.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi helpveterans -- Our moderators do pull stories that violate our community guidelines. We don't normally send emails explaining the reason.
IF you'll send me a link to the stories that aren't unavailable, i'll take a look and respond
my email is david.williams@turner.com
I covered New York Comic Con last year. It bills itself as the “East Coast's biggest popular culture convention” and the “second largest comic book and pop culture gathering in the country.” If you get a chance, go and report on it: Oct. 13-16 at the Javits Center.
@davidw
Awesome to hear there is hope! I really enjoyed covering Comic-con again this year as well as meeting the other iReporters for breakfast. Thank you for the update.
@ccostello3 Excellent. I'll definitely check that out.
Hi markpel,
Don't know if you saw, but there's a Berlin meetup scheduled too, if you can attend: http://www.meetup.com/CNNiReport/Berlin-International-News-Reporting/
I've been to it Kari. Fun!
CNN iReporters Boot Camp on Monday August 8th until September 2011...Get Your Boots Ready!
@beetraveler: I'm from the Pacific Northwest. I'd love to explore Canada's Yukon and Northwest territories. I look forward to reading your (and everyone else's) upcoming iReports.
Great e-meeting everyone here. Neat to interact like this. Very cool.
Looking forward to the next one!
Have a great afternoon/evening everyone and happy iReporting!
I gotta go back to work. Thanks for having me and I hope to see many of you in San Diego, August 20th at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for the CNN iReport Birthday Party.
I promise there will be some amazing surprises, goodies, free admission to the Safari Park, and maybe a Presidential Candidate will stop by. :)
Ciao from Sunny San Diego!
Happy Fifth Anniversary For CNN iReporters Globe-Trotters!
Thanks for stopping by! Hope to here from you all soon!
This has been really fun, it was nice talking with everyone. We'll talk to you soon.
Take care
?: Will it some day be possible to upload additional photos/videos to an iReport and/or to edit/delete existing photos/videos?
Thanks a lot. Bye bye.
hello to all you guys from manila.
good luck to cnn and to everyone on this milestone and exciting event we all share. thank you for making us a part of this.
I just wanted to join in and say hi to all
Hieveryone. I woke up very late. My alarm at 2:30 am didn't wake me up maybe bec of the meds. Im excited about the meet up and the bootcamp.
I want to host events in Los Angeles and OC. I have locations and now need to know how to coordinate and get it on the calendar. Please advise!!!! Pretty please.
Dear Congress
Last year I mismanaged my funds and this year my family and I cannot decide on a budget. Until we have come to a unified decision that fits all of our needs and interests we will have to shut down our checkbook and will no longer be able to pay our taxes. I'm sure you'll understand.
Thank you very much for setting an example we can follow.
Looking forward to the boot camp, new assignments, 5th year anniversary celebration of iReport and the secret assignment. Congratulations to all of you behind the iReport community!
Mail a CNN iReporter Birthday Kit To GHung on the 5th Birthday Anniversary during August 2011.
How is BART turning off cell phones any different than what was done in Egypt and other places? Americans screamed at their leaders for taking away the right to communicate, protest and cause insurrection and destruction. So it's ok to do it here in the USA and not in all other countries? Let's not be so damn overcritical of other nations and leaders that did what they thought was needed to avoid destruction of their society.
Hello from the Berkshires!
