Please join us today for a roundtable at 2:30 p.m. ET.
With the primaries in full swing, we’d like to hear from you about what kind of assignments you would be interested in doing for the election this year. The iReport team will be on hand to hear your thoughts and answer questions.
Comments will open at 2:30. We look forward to hearing your thoughts. See you then!
Hi - RE; marines urinating - years ago on a national TV news program I saw home movie, in a major U.S. city ghetto, of robbers urinating on a white male they had beaten unconscience. This made me nauseated. The "marine" story pales (terrorists vs. innocent victim)
Hi guys, welcome to the roundtable.
FYI, davidw will be back leading the roundtable next week.
Hello All! Looking forward to this election year!
Hello from Norfolk,Va
We have a couple of assignments. One is asking voters in the primaries and caucuses, why they are voting this year. We also have one about the various GOP candidates, so you can discuss the pros and cons of each one.
Thinking ahead to the rest of the year, what other election-related assignments would you like to see?
Hello
Good afternoon, all.
Hi Henry, Hey Chris!
election year happens to be in 2012 hmm well i just seen on tv the clock of doomsday go move 1 minute closer. its at 5 minutes till midnight. so i guess ill have to take that into consideration when i go vote this year
Hello all from FT. Eustis, Va
Hi everyone! So good to be here
Hello K3
I think the explosive theme re candidates is the subject of a 30" film on Romney and the Bain juggernaut on American businesses.
Something being done to improve the quality of military housing
Hey SlickNick.
I must say I'm impressed with Mitt Romneys surge ahead.
Jon Huntsman is the only candidate that is good for all Republicans, etc...
Yes, what has caught your interest this year? What issue are you voting about?
What about thoughts on whether the primaries should go the distance or wrap up early...the pros and cons. The impact it has on the general election and final nominees.
also i look at the persons belifs n if they are strong enough to stand by what they belive even if the media talks down on it.
Good morning west coasters
I think that if more people spent some time looking at the candidate (the person) I think less people will need to think about WHO is the best for the United States.
And Church & State are not what's important, but it seems to be driving so many :(
Interesting idea, thanks @k3vsDad.
it's quite interesting watching your elections from the Great White North, lots of attention up here!
Hi everyone
Hiya Daphne :)
The way we do things here can be rather puzzling, intriguing and at times laughable in election seasons for sure, seeitnow.
What's up with Haley Barbour, has he gone Canadian on ya'll, and shouldn't his name be Barber Hailey, with that do!
: > )
Thinking about previous years, what type of election iReport assignments would you personally contribute to? Would you be interested in having an iReport debate?
Hi y'all! Planning a huge party for May 19th!
"40 and Finally Graduated"
Starting early since there's a lot of parties going on.
The Margarita Man has already been reserved!
Who wants an invite? Private Message Me and I'll send you one!
@ChrisMorrow you know you are on the list..
@hhanks You know I cover the elections! haha
Is there a chat room that I can't find? I have to reload the page every few seconds
Good point K3. A bit of a circus sometimes the way they go after each other.LOL
Another assignment coming up (consider this "Coming Attractions"): We plan to ask for iReporters who donate small amounts of money to candidates, and why they do so. Any thoughts on that as well?
i mean whats even gonna happen with the " strait of hormus " iran is ready to go to war . they just killed one of the sientist that was part of the nuclear plant. a guy in a bike put a bomb on the sientist car. war can happen any second. who wants to elect a new president in hostiol moments
Hi Daphne.
@alleebeth - Just hit reload every so often. Sorry for the confusion, thanks!
Hi Beth, you have to reload. Live chat is on our wishlist.
Mine too, for you :)
The Iranian situation is a real issue that should see more input. Also the situation unfolding in the Euro Zone is a major watcher. Both of these can have major impacts not only on foreign policy of the US, its economy and on the presidential election.
What happened to the site late yesterday? It went down for quite a while.
@MelissaF - Yes, we had a brief site outage but thankfully it was noticed and worked on right away. Sorry about that.
I'm glad those air craft carriers were deployed to Hormuz, The president of Iran (Achmadinajad) has a "wheel in the sand"...
What else is on everyone's minds? I'm curious what kind of assignments you all prefer.
hey guys - sorry i'm a bit late!
Is the health group pretty well dead? There hasn't really been anything there for awhile.
Rachel, where have you been? We called the "iReport" authorities to look for you..:)
@k3vsDad nope, we just don't have a current assignment in that group right now. Say, I noticed that you post a lot of opinions -- have you ever considered getting on video?
I just thought of a great assignment!
A Sound Off about your favorite and least favorite TV commercials.
I've seen a few stupid doozies lately, like the new one my Super Cuts that the guy feels so confident after his hair cut he spends all his money on a roulette bet. Uggh!
A few iReports from this election season so far, that might serve as inspiration:
Anelia interviewed a pastor in Iowa to get his take on the Iowa caucuses - http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-714419
A very original Ron Paul sign/display - http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-723819
Interviews with caucusgoers as it was taking place in Iowa - http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-726303
Candidates plead their case at the caucus - http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-725978
New Hampshire primary polling place - http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-729363
What about an assignment of the post pressing issue in your state as you wait for your primary or caucus vote. What is the main issue in your state?
Hi, Melissa. We indeed had a problem with the website's database at 11:30 p.m. eastern. I believe it was resolved by 12:30 a.m. eastern. We got our tech team on it fairly quickly.
On another note, this morning out tech team introduced a series of updates and fixes to our the new iReport platform. Things like some outstanding browser compatibility issues and formatting throughout, have been fixed.
@SlickNick I used your weather iReport in a blog post today...it's just under this one on the main iReport blog page :)
Daphne, the recent assignments were enjoyable. Kodak memories, favorite cars, weather. Varieties of assignments. Something for everyone.
Hello, everyone!
Another good one @k3vsDad - We may see something like that for the South Carolina primary.
Last night's Ridiculist was great! It was about the "Shake Weight"...
@elchueco Great!
Interesting thought, Melissa! That would be a great idea for Superbowl time.
dsashin, if I had the access to a vid cam...absolutely...alas at this point I don't.
Oh and hi everyone! Hope you're having a great start to a great year.
@rachel8
Perfect!
@k3vsDad, thank you thinking international!
@Rachel8, I saw that Rachel just now. Thank you.
Of course, my pleasure, markpel
Another possible assignment could be looking at the international view on the elections (as @seeitnow has already touched on here).
CNN iReport should be (more) international; all iReporters are not form the U.S..
@markpel - Yes, looking for more international iReporters all the time.
Hi Mark, good point.
Very sad to see that many CNN iReporter producers are nacionalist.
hhanks, I could go for that type of assignment...of course I already do reports on what is happening outside the US of A as well.
@hhanks @seeitnow
I would love to hear an international opinion on the elections, especially the primaries. I want to know if it looks like a 3 ring circus out there, like it does here.
Oh something else that would be great on the wish list:
A video response button, like the one on YouTube.
So for example when @Okemongo replied to my iReport they can be better linked together with a photo thumbnail. Get it?
Think it would be cooler for debate issues!
Whatever the assignment, I wanna increase my views. I wanna join the club of a couple fotogs, good as they are, one of whom on his first uploaded assignment was picked up by CNN and racked up over 33,000 views. Someone please tell me how he does that lol. Serious.
I got 453 on one of my iReport picked up by CNN, but 33,000+. Thats rediculous, as the kids say today. Another equally young n talented fotog logged in over 25,000 views as well, on his 2nd story. Jeez!
@MelissaF video commenting is coming soon
Agree re the international view of the elections.
Could someone in the US start by giving a video'd explanation of the procedures- it seems awfully complicated to me - and I've never understood it, here in the UK.
Hint: an explanation would make great international television ....
@dsashin OOOOHHHH!Can't wait!!!
Any update on how soon we can see who is following us?
@markpel not sure what you mean; we have producers around the world vetting iReports. Is there a particular assignment you would like to see?
Is WMV files supported yet?
Yes an iReport assignment for the rest of the world and how they see it would be great!
For a series I did, SPK, did a couple of videos for me which I was able to upload with no problem and they were WMV EWillies
@AlunHill - this video explains the caucuses
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2012/01/02/ac-foreman-caucus-explainer.cnn
Specifically, what do they think of the different candidates and why.
... and can someone send me a Twinkie and a Shake Weight- a video of both would make a great combination, so long as I got them the right way round ...
No, I've never used / eaten either .. and neither has Anderson Cooper from what I was watching (in the early hours of this morning here!( - great fun!
For example I was just in Tunisia and who would have thought that Tunisians love America. People should know that, especially Americans
Of course many of our international community may not realize we have many methods of selecting both nominees/candidates/delegates and eventually the actual election process for the winners of the particular office. There are basics, but many, many methods in our electoral process.
This explains Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina kicking off the election season:

iReport promo on TV again right now
dsashin, have you seen my last iReport about demo against German president Wulff. This is very important issue here in Europe. CNN has completly ignored it.
@alunhill - The twinky is what started the west into it;s downward spiral of mass obesity, it should be buried. And wasn't someone murdered over a twinky at one point so apparently it is a deadly weapon as well!
@markpel - I will be in touch.
@respier There's no magic formula to getting page views. A lot of it is just timing - if you're in the right place at the right time to get a super-newsy or compelling photo. It's that combined with the quality of the image, the story behind it, the news priorities of the day, and probably a bunch of other factors that I'm forgetting. Keep capturing news when you see it and you'll get there!
Plus, I barely need to point out that it's not all about page views. Some images don't get a ton of views but end up generating amazing responses and comments, which is way more important. Others get featured in CNN stories or on television. There are all kinds of ways that awesome iReports get recognition!
Now, seeitnow, leave our golden, cream-filled treat alone...LOL
Is CNN doing any kind of advertising outside of this website and their own channel to recruit more people for iReport?
I think it is necessary in order to get more opinion on the Sound Off! iReports.
Also, are you all working on any kind of incentive program? Some new iReport merchandise, gift cards, and I hope one day a partnership like they have on YouTube.
@hhanks - thanks very much for this - I'll look at it today.
@alunhill, how about a shake weight powered laptop assignment then you can have your twinky and eat it to.
I love that ireport promo :)
@alunhill, I can;t vote in the USA anymore, but if I could I'd vote for any candidate that promises to banish twinkies in the USA and launch a program to smuggle surplus twinkies covertly into Iran.
@Melissa - not sure about the specifics of any of that. I will say that we're always working to recruit more iReporters, not necessarily through advertising, but through partnerships, social media, and the like. And of course we're always thinking of more ways to reward and engage our community!
YeaRACHEL8, the views and CNN highlights were a complete surprise to me. My intention was simply to have an outlet for my stories. A dear friend told me about iReport and twisted my arm five ways; finally, after two days of standing on my head,
I managed to launch my page -- & Im very happy with it. I was just utterly amazed at the number of views received by both fotogs I referred to -- both very talented! and worthy). Thanks! I think Ill Follow you lol.
Melissa, what kind of incentive program could we have?
Alright all! Gotta go! Flying out to my grandma's tomorrow for her 77th birthday. Ready to party! lol Have a great weekend all!
Thanks @all for your responses today. Glad to see the suggestions, and thoughts from everyone. Looking forward to your iReports on the election this year!
The Mold in Lincoln Military Housing here in Norfolk has made hundreds of families sick. Many families have come forward and have been on the local media here. You can go to www.wtkr/news/militaryhousingmold/. We are desperatly trying to get this out to a national media market. Please help!
Thanks, hhanks!
@dsashin You can have a point and reward system. Advertising sharing, like YouTube. Nominal amounts of money for vetted iReports. New Merchandise..I already have sling pack, backpack, t-shirts, and a 6 pack cooler (that one was nice)...new merchandise should include umbrellas, coffee mugs, hats, Specialty merchandise for SuperStars like jackets, fleece, new webcams, flip cams (you've had those before), laptops, iPads, iPad covers, Editing software....anything else you can think of...
@marines76 - do an iReport on it!
I"m a bit far from you - in Derbyshire this week, but if you need ANY help, just ask me.
I mean it - always here to help any UK based iReporter in any way.
thanks, everyone! see you next time!
@dsashin...oh and any kind of gift cards...you can make deals with advertisers to allot some of those for iReport. hmmm???
Thanks, rachel8
@k3vsDad
Thanks. I will try going forward.
Ciao, baby!
Hi Everyone. Am I too late?
Hello
Juan Tovar, the task for this year should be the integration of a new perspective DONE CNN's news. not everything has to be based on news or events tragic deaths. achieve this year a new direction by getting more people get CNN and integrating good news that the reader is curious and share your opinion with us.
expand a website especially for us who are fans spine and most active pages on the major networks that give us access sosciales the world as reporters. a credential that the CNN team can send us virtually, we can print in our homes and participate in our local stories.
not if you've noticed but most of the origins and tenets are of foreign origin; dimensions do not want names, but this issue is controversial for them. such as Mexican illegals would happen if this postulate of Mexican origin were also wins vltearia face as Obama did with theirs. United States made up of immigrants should have an immigration authority Sebera but friendly.
Hopefully win a leader and not a president to lead us at least what we were before and even better to be world leaders.
While Obama is a Republican president did not do much effort to govern.
need a president who emerged as a leader and vulva to the U.S. in the place it deserves because we do not currently and China heels pizando us this and who else must follow.
candidates seem to forget this and are thinking only in the U.S. 40, 60. awaken the United States is down to awareness and vulva nuesra regenerative economy for the common good!
CNN and other news media are not doing the American People any favors by squelching and or ignoring the truth. Our President Obama is stealing from the Taxpayer. He now is willing to spend another 1.2 trillion of "our" money for a grand total of over 6 trillion American Dollars in 3 years added to "our" debt. He also continues to break our laws and ignore our Constituion. President Obama should have and still deserves to be impeached along with his whole administration.
I would go for a gift card :)
no one cares ive been submitting heaps and nothing gets vetted, whats the point!!
How long before Erin Barnett dyes her hair blonde and goes to work for Fox?
