The latest and greatest on CNN iReport, brought to you by Team iReport.
We're excited to announce that the CNN iReport community has reached one million registered members.
This is a major milestone, so we want to start by thanking you for choosing to spend your time with us and for sharing your stories with the world.
It's really cool to think that our community has the population of a good-sized city and that iReporters have posted stories from every country in the world. It's even cooler that many of the first people to join iReport, like brixton, Pixel, jbjimbo (our first intern), WCNReporter, AlunHill, Artboy and larena, are still active participants in the community after all these years.
We've got a lot of big projects in the works and expect to grow even more in 2012, but we want to hold on to iReport's "small town" feel. Thank you again for making CNN iReport a powerful newsgathering tool and a nurturing, kind and supportive community that we are proud to be a part of.
P.S. If you check out your profile page later today, you'll notice this new "one in a million" badge that's a token of our appreciation.
feels great & honored to be part of the 1 million registered iReport community...hope to be able to contribute more photos/stories this year...
thanks too for giving us a venue for the expression of our comments, ideas, etc.
Oh please, this amateur iJournalism nonsense is solely about free content for a mega corporate news organization that never valued anything but the bottom line, even under Turner who never, ever paid a living wage to bona fide professionals. Well, okay it's also about free marketing.
This is awesome guys! Congrats!
Big deal. 1 Million more users to get articles featured when they talk about Apple.
Incredible! Congrats!
Is this going to play on TV?
As an unemployed cameraman I have mixed feelings about using CNN using unpaid labor to create programming. We need new jobs in America, not 1 million unpaid IREPORTERS doing the work that once was a PAID job. It is a race to the bottom in America. Reporters and cameramen need more than a thank you a a free t-shirt to pay the bills.
How unfortunate that 99% of their output is worthless, unwatchable, irrelevant garbage that is absolutely not newsworthy nor journalism.
Shame on CNN for sinking to the depths of this sort of cheap exploitation.
This was a fun video to be part of. Thanks for using me in the cool acrobatic Oracle plane going upside down, the dueling violin ladies, Tall Ships and of course my voice!
A nice way to document a cool part of CNN history.
Click on my profile and check out the rest of my iReports and post your own!
It's nice to know that if something happens nearby, people will get the truth from the source, and not rumors or assumptions.
bunch of liberal socialists
Oh, so cool! Great job. Jannet
As a professional journalist for decades, what that means is CNN gets its "news" free from sources with no news gathering skills and loaded with potentially inaccurate rumors. NICE going CNN, you're helping destroy the news media industry.
What a scam. When I was a broadcast reporter, media outlets PAID for news tips. Now they get them for nothing from egotistic "IReporters" but as is to be expected, it's amateur crap not worthy of a truly dedicated news operation, more what's available from the typical neighborhood gossips.
And the cacophony gets bigger and bigger until we truly stop communicating altogether
Thanks twitter, facebook, i-report and all the other 'essential' survival-tools of the 21st century
thanks for taking me into account for this promo and let me be part of this great project ... Thanks
Good Job CNNireport!!!! keep it going!!!!!!!!!
Congrats, iReport! A million thank you's to the amazing community here.
Thank god we've done away with all those pesky professional journalists. All that fact checking and vetting of sources was really getting in the way of our personal opinions and total unsubstantiated claims.
Photography, Photojournalism, Journalism, Videography, in the professional sense, is dead. What people will do for free, no one will pay for. As a professional photographer of fifteen years, this is the era of 'high quality' low end cameras, which is just good enough for people not to care. Our society doesn't care about quality anymore. Go to Walmart for your Journalistic Needs. That is the new way of our society. To all of my journalist friends, I think McDonalds is hiring.
I did stem cell treatment 5 years ago and nobody gives a hoot. 248-952-6836

Congratulations, this is quite an achievement. Hey ChrisMorrow, you are awesome!!
iReport.... aka doing CNN's work for them.
The current administration keeps saying things are getting better and yet we have the occupy movement all over the U.S.A. I wonder if they are telling the truth.
Congrats CNN ireports.
Hard to imagine there are so many ireporters. To think that almost exactly 3 years ago (Jan 8, 2009) the 1 millionth comment was made on my ireport by my old buddy Yorksnbeans:
ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-177095
I know that some professionals have been put out of work, but not that many ireports make it to the tv news. Many that do cover stories that would be ignored otherwise. It fills a niche and there are jobs created as ireport producers can tell you.
I don't understand why this story is listed under "US" stories. Ireports is an international community.
I've been around ireports since November 08 and it's gone through a lot of changes. I miss the old community we had, even if discussions sometime got heated. Too many good ireporters were banned and a few that remain have pulled the quality of discussion down a few notches. I think an ignore button would be useful, but for now I'm taking a break until the children leave the forum. :/
I like ireports as a way to air my views on important environmental, social and political issues. Thanks for being here.
What a farce. CNN just uses "iReporters" to create perceived "average joe" credibility. They simply find an iReporter who echoes the narrative they want to push, and there you have it - bias and distortion nicely dressed up as a sincere, average-citizen iReporter. But if an iReporter opines, it must be true, because everybody MUST think the way he does, right? iReporters: If you think you're doing FOI a favor, you're only fooling yourself.
Congrats!
Congrats to the iReport community at large and cheers to the brave new world of citizen journalism, to the stories we will tell!
And the best part is that is doesn't cost CNN a penny. People get to pretend like they are reporters, and CNN gets free content. You get what you pay for.
Congrats!!!
wow congrats ireport. growing, growing and growing.
Congratulations iReporters
Much More Metta to all

One million iReporter. What does it mean for CNN?
This is a good one! CNN keep it up. As for those arguing the importance of ireporting, please go and study more on ireport, you will see significance. It cannot be overemphasised. Your story doesnt necesarily need to be on CNN! Write your story and leave it for CNN to judge. Regards
I'm really happy congratulating for everyone
Congrats to iReport team and to iReporters around the world. A great milestone that you should celebrate!
Thanks CNN iReports
