I signed up last week and posted several gas fracking related videos. One became an editors pick and 2 of my videos were vetted for CNN. A natural gas company sent you a letter to remove one of the videos and claimed the woman I interviewed was not fact checked.  CNN iReport then  un vetted the videos, and have not responded to several requests on why this happened. In NE Pennsylvania, we are in the midst of an environmental crisis. I need to get these peoples 1st hand accounts of what's going on here to people in other states so they can make informed decisions on whether or not to let the gas industry do that to them.

I am also starting to get requests from bloggers who are writing posts about this incident, asking why the video was vetted then unvetted.

This is an interesting situation because the gas company is asking you to remove the video, and the pro gas lobby group that posted the letter, Energy in Depth, is linking and promoting it throughout all their social media outlets. These two groups are working together. Please don't cave from pressure from big gas!

I don't have any updates on any of those issues k3vsDad.

I know I sound like a broken record, so let me explain how real quickly how things work.

What we've done on our side is put together a big list of bug fixes, improvements and new features for our developers.

Then we rank them in order of importance.

Then our developers assign the tasks and start working on them.

They assign the tasks based on priority and complexity.

Some tasks are important but will take a long time, so they may bang out three tasks that are less important, but are easier.

Hope that adds a bit of clarity.

Well, David! I have a strong interest in telling stories. I used to be on talk radio and my interest in sharing stories, and problems with public was a wonderful thing! Radio was a good media, but you could only just talk and share the problems with the public. Then you would wait to hear the responses from the listening audience. Recently I wanted to share my feeling about things happening in my community. We had several police officers get kill in the line of duty. Gun violence in my area is very high now! Aiken was a quiet community, until these officers were killed. Well, I wanna do something about what's happening in my community. I recently wrote a produced a video and shared my feelings about the gun violence in my community! I also talked about the President Obama, Republican Candidates in my video. I'm a big fan of CNN and all other news agencies!

All: Titanic anniversary is only a few weeks away.

I discovered last week that a great British journalist (probably the world's fist investigative journalist) died on the ship.

He was so well liked that there was a collection for a monument to him - and it raised so much money that there are now 2 monuments - one by the River Thames in central London and the other in Central Park, New York!

His proifessioanl organisation, the Chartered Institute of Journalists, which I'm a member of, is going to lay a wreath on the anniversary, which I'll be filming

Can anyone do something in NY, making it a joint iReport?

The date is Sunday 16th April - William Thomas Stead is the man - do Wikipedia him for more details of a great man (he edited his newspaper from his prison cell, for example!).

Thanks!

There are a lot of factors that go into deciding what we do and do not vet, so I can see why that can be confusing.

The first thing we look for are things that are either related to the major stories of the day, or to projects that we're working on.

We also look for interesting things that we think that CNN's producers would be able to use either online or on TV.

Another factor is simply how many people we have staffing the desk at a time. There are days when we are at full strength and everyone is vetting, but there are others where most of us are busy with longer-term projects.

Howdy all!

I have posted several things under "no category" because under "creative" or "my life" or even "travel" you have to go with the assignment. I am happy to see photo club back.

Does anyone ever look at the no category?

I had a post for the Grammy Awards on Ralph Stanley, one of the Father's of Blue Grass. We were able to go to his concert and I had photos of him signing CD's and his book. He was up for Best Blue Grass Album. We don't have the opportunity to see all the stars and exciting stuff like in NY or LA. I was excited!

I get my share of vetting and am happy, but sometimes I wonder what the heck it takes.

February 16, 2012

@markpel, well can't blame me because not only did I like I said so to and you're right it is good. That said, I've been this awhile and rule number one is never take anything like this personal. I know that they value each and every story but sometimes things get so busy they don't have time or there's something else that is more important at the time. I always imagine a major contributor like say Diane Sawyer doing a story and then having it shelved because of other news priorities that day. It happens all the time so just don't take it personally and continue to do the great stories you do. and see you soon in Berlin my friend!

The few I've had vetted are usually the ones that are only my opinion pieces rather than commentary/news articles that are mixed. My observation, vetting is more about the 100% original material, thought, opinion, video or pictures. Mixed information is less likely to be vetted. But that is just my observation.

@MelissaF Hello! Good to see you. I'm the one in charge of the editorial team here in Atlanta, though all of us make decisions every day about what submissions get vetted.

As you can imagine, we get a ton of content everyday and do our best to approve the most timely, interesting and standout iReports. What gets approved has a lot to do with what stories are in the news on a particular day and what projects we're working on. Because we're a small team it's impossible to approve every submission from every person, but we do our best to exercise our editorial judgement and vet the best.

I hope that helps answer your question!

Hi @Katie...I know that..just when we have a producer we work with more often than the others, ie. Henry, stuff doesn't get vetted like it usually does.  I was thinking because many of you have your regular iReporters that you deal with, so at times when the producer is gone out of the office, like Henry, we just get looked over.  Nothing personal, just an observation.  Like Chris Morrow said, Henry was looking forward to her last iReport, it has gotten overlooked.  Know what I mean?

February 16, 2012

We don't know everyone Ryn, but we try to get to know as many people as we can. We get to know a lot of people during the course of vetting.

We do generally have someone who's in charge of various project-based assignments and we rotate on beats based on the stories in the news each day.

There's a lot of overlap though

I want to go back to part of Ryn's original question that I didn't answer earlier.

Every iReport that comes into the site shows up in latest iReport feed on the site - whether they're in an assignment or not.

We all look at that first when we are looking for stories to vet. Then we go to the assignment pages if we're working on that project or focusing on that assignment.

They don't just go into a black hole that we don't look at.

The gas industry is claiming (Google Energy in Depth, Scott Cannon, CNN iReport) that they got you to unvet my video and my question is being ignored here in this forum and via emails. I am very new to CNN iReports. Is this typical?

Just watched a snippet about Mormons submitting names like Mickey Mouse and Fred Flintstone for baptism. SHAME on you CNN. Candy Crowley....get updated. My daughter-in-law tried to submit John Adams two months ago. He is legitimately her great great grandfather. This particular John Adams was NOT the former President. They stopped her at the front desk and took the name away. 24 hrs. later they called back and gave her permission. In a church of over 13 million with 136 temples...just what "punishment" does Candy Crowley expect to be meted out to these people. The fact that your informer is a disaffected member should be a red flag to you guys. This is an OLD story (Jewish holocaust victims being baptized) SHAME on you CNN! Mitt Romney has NOTHING whatsoever to do with any of it. SHAME on you CNN! There are ignorant people out there ready to suck up everything you guys have to say, and don't you KNOW it!

Is there no Travel Snapshots assignment this week?  I noticed Paris has been up there for a couple of weeks already even though it expired on February 11th.

Have a weekend, everyone.  :o)

I think that it is a good and bad idea for students to get paid for going to school and behaving. I think it is a good idea because they will most likely go to school and behave and learn new things to succeed. I think it is a bad idea because students shouldn't be getting paid for what they should already be doing and they will get used to getting paid for coming to school they might not get paid in college and drop out.

The difference between being held hostage and held in bondage.

I am afraid we might find out the difference soon. We have been held hostage by our congress failing to act on our behalf. The new people in congress promised to balance the budget and make jobs. All they have done is cut jobs and hold congress in limbo and they have not learned the most important rule, ( compromise - give a little, get a lot.) First you have to give. The other side of the aisle is not doing us any favors by giving in - and giving up. Now my American sisters and brothers. If we let the same people who bought the people who are holding us in limbo, to hold the highest post in the land we will have sold our selves into bondage. Once they get their monopoly they can make the country with the "right to work law" and we will do anything for a job to feed our families. Wages will slowly go down and down until middle class will never own a home again. Minimum wage for workers and a little more for taskmasters. They will put us to work and put us up in housing ( THEIR HOUSING.) When you can no longer work, you are no longer useful therefore a drain on society and must be disposed of. They do not have to take our rights away, when they can have us give our rights to them willingly. This wont happen fast but this is the road (THEY) want us on, "the road to Potters field". By this time you're thinking who the heck is this guy and who the heck are (THEY). They are are the ones who own big business, Politicians, Parties and everyone else that will sell their body and soul. Big business is all about the bottom line, not you-not me. Profit, land and power is the bottom line. The worse part of this scenario is you don't know your soul is being sold until it's over and judgment is upon you and then it's, (oh my God I had no idea that they lied to me.) "TOO LATE FOR YOU - TOO LATE FOR US". Big business just put us into the great recession of the 21st century and our government just saved us from the great depression of the 21st century by congress working together . Write now we still have the right to vote, so vote well and "GOOD LUCK WITH THAT".

I know my last post was scary but I feel we are being groomed for what is to come.  Like a social predator desensitizing it's prey to the mishandling and abuse, until the one or ones being abused come to believe they are getting what they deserve in life.  Unfortunately there are a group of predators grooming us and we can't be sure who is who.  If they could only be held accountable for their lies with perhaps a law.  I know that wouldn't stop them but it might slow them down long enough for us to see who is tongue tide.  At that point we need to impeach, imprison and make an example of them to the other predators we voted into office.
