And we wanted to see what kinds of stories people are interested in commenting on.

Question- Today a picture was released that a California State Worker made, then sent out using his work email. It is a picture depicting Trayvon Martin in a dead police officers uniform. The photoshop picture this guy used, IS the actual picture of the deceased officer. Is it ok for me to post it, along with where and WHOM it came from? May I email it to someone at CNN so they may check it out. This is an outrage..

Hi from Alun in the UK!

Any thoughts on the 50th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis, coming up?

I discovered last week that some USA missiles were stored here in the UK at the  time and have been invited to film a "celebration" of the end of the crisis, in the (then secret) air base where they were stored - could fit in with anything planed Stateside, perhaps.

Question?

Have you guys heard of Kickstarter?

CNN has a video on them from March 21st...search on CNN homepage because links aren't allowed.

I think Kickstarter with the help of CNN iReport is a great tool for iReporters to do projects and submit bits with iReport.  I have a project right now called "Freedom Riders 2012"  It's an interfaith documentary where I take 5 strangers of different beliefs and travel cross country to visit America's largest places of worship.

Along the way I plan to upload iReports of video and photos to iReport so everyone can be part of the journey.

Question:

I have several ireports to have problems with video after being uploaded as they are very distorted and hard to see.....This has been going for for several weeks and when you make tech aware of this, it takes 2 or 3 days for them to get back to you and no resolution, other than have it withdrawn and re-load.  I uploaded a video within the last hour and it has the same problem.

My questions today are why cant we see all the twitts from ireporters on twitters?

What kind of program people use to do their clips because mine seem too big all the time even tho there are only 3 minutes.

Why Is it when we down load pictures they dont keep the order?

Just a reminder for everyone to look at my last ireport flirting with the moon one pic in particular was taken with just a regular camera unfortunately i do have a lot of problem down loading so by the time they down load them well its the wrong one but one in particular deserve your attention

Hi KCRep,

The main reason is that there is a lot more competition for space on the Entertainment page, and they're not that interested in Text-only iReports. Also, the TV folks can almost never use text only stories like that.

@wjoreilly Regarding the "town hall" format, that's an excellent point. We want to create a way for people to discuss the issues. And I really feel like the way that lottery iReport started a conversation about the possibilities for the winnings was an interesting study in getting people talking about something. We have also asked people to post video comments on a few stories this week.

nsaidi, thanks. i am suggesting this because i find myself in a new town (wilkes barre, pa) with major, major issues--like huge corruption, fracking, big stuff and people are so positional here that they can't even get on the same page to dialogue/transform. i feel like what's needed is an outside entity that is not as rooted in positionality that could help to get the opposing sides to begin to hear eachother....sounds impossible, right?

i thought Brooke Baldwin had a point with the congress woman from Florida about her actual involvement in all cases for children who have been victims of violent crime like Trayvon Martin.  We've seen so many funding cuts in social services, and half the time even child advocates don't know their clients because of their enormous work loads... I'm sure she votes in favor of social services funding , like programs for young victims of violent crimes?  I think if she did drive money to the county that helped prosecute the killer of that little girl she was referring to, that does show the congresswoman's attempt at least to help?

@davidw

CNN just did a piece on them on March 21st.  Just use the homepage search engine and put in Kickstarter.  There is a video with the co-founder of the company.  It helps attract backers to projects including documentaries.  Check out the website.  It's awesome.  People donate money and become "backers" in return they get rewards from who's doing the project like a DVD, a t-shirt.  But if the person posting the project does not hit their goal then they get none of the money.

iReporters would flourish on this website!

March 29, 2012

@DaElmersBack I understand videos sometimes not uploading properly. Windows has been a bit problematic with our site. We are working to fix it. In the mean time I would try seeing if you can compress or convert your videos into another file using windows media player or windows video editor, that could help.

March 29, 2012

nsaidi, thanks. i think sincerity goes a long way. i also think that communicating what i see about the impasse here may have an effect, but then again may be met with a "butt out." it's about creating the space for dialogue...something we try to do here, but so often, unfortunately we end up in positionality...thus the sometimes rude interactions between people of opposing pov's

Hi @Chronologik! I think I vetted that one of yours. You're doing great. Vetting is based on all kinds of factors, including the daily news, and what projects we're currently focusing on, in addition to the quality of the iReport. One thing you might do is take a look at our assignments page (click the link in the navigation bar on the top right). The five assignments featured at the top of that page are the topics we're most focused on that day, so anything in those will probably have a better chance of being seen and vetted.

Also, I was wondering about the nature of our news these days. With social networking and the internet, news is happening every second. How does CNN report on delicate issues without all of the facts? For example I feel like everyday there is new information about the Trayvon Martin case but I sense that citizens are quick to pass judgement on major issues based on the first or second news report they hear. Side note- (Even if Trayvon punched Zimmerman I think he should be arrested for manslaughter)

@wjoreilly Thanks for your point. It's hard sometimes to consider another's point of view, but it's very important for good dialogue. There are some iReporters who do this very well. I wonder how we can encourage more of this kind of thing? Is there a way that, through comments and other communication, we can encourage people to sort out their differences?

In addition, for photos, we'd prefer a collection of strong images as opposed to one single shot (you can upload up to 10 in one iReport). And with video, it's best to keep it short(under 1 minute is good!) Pay attention to the volume and make sure you come across clearly. You can also look at the feed of approved iReports to see what we're vetting: http://ireport.cnn.com/recent-updates.jspa?secondarySortBy=last24hours&sortBy=oncnn&sortOrder=2&filterBy=oncnn

@Nsaidi I agree ! I've been quilty of Emotionally Charged conversation when it comes to things I value or believe in. It is extremely complicated to separate the facts from the emotions. I have also always been the kind of person that can easily see both sides of the issue even if it is something I am fundamentally against. I feel like this is a strength but in terms of debating it is certainly a weakness. It's always driven me nuts lol!

nsaidi, i agree that dialogue is really key--people actually listening to others' points of view and allowing their own position to change as a result....media loves emotional outbursts of the subscribers because it sells papers and soap on tv...i would hope that we at ireport can transcend that usual state and get to the transformational power of real dialogue....worth a try, anyway.

i think whatever we feel we have to add to a conversation and not take away from is important... must keep in mind some kind of semblance of class no matter how much a hater may have hated on your video or your comment.  keep expressing yourself in a positive manner maybe it will be contagious?  i do have anxiety about negative comments from right wingers probably, so this is me facing my fears lol
