Sharing your thoughts on election can be easy as 1, 2, 3

One. Two. Three. Imagine the future of the GOP.

We recently tried an experiment to find out what readers think about the post-election political world. Since a lot of that conversation was happening in the comments sections across CNN.com, we decided to focus our efforts there.

Several CNN iReport staffers started jumping right into the comments sections, typing out questions about what President Obama should do and the meaning of liberalism. Readers posted dozens of responses to those questions, and this one as well: “What should the GOP do right now?” We asked the readers to follow a structured list, and they did. Having that consistent format among the responses allowed us to produce a story culling together 10 of the best posts.

We were impressed with readers’ thoughtfulness. “Focus on true conservative values” was one of the three suggestions for the GOP listed by CNN.com reader WazzaMatta4U. SRM2012 suggested that Republicans “engage young African Americans and Latinos.”

The story also inspired some commenters to respond by listing their wishes for what the Democratic Party should do next, like this item from user SaneReason: “Bask in the reflected glory of your recent presidential victory, but recognize the number of Americans that feel differently.”

This is part of our new effort to connect the CNN.com commenting community with CNN iReport, bringing together two worlds of discussion that have, until now, always been pretty separate. Comments on news stories have traditionally had a rough-and-tumble reputation, but we are quite often blown away by readers’ thoughtfulness. We hope to try new projects like this in the future, and we’d love to hear what you think.

Please share your thoughts and suggestions on bringing your voices into CNN’s coverage in the comments section below (you can put them in a list format if you’d like). We encourage you to Sound Off on video as well.

An American Airline plane due to leave Dallas at 3:15 was delayed 1 hour because they lost a cargo of monkeys.  It would have been better to put the passenger who lost her monkeys on a different plane

This country elected a President with a dismal 4 Year record of failure  . A leader has the ability to join the two parties and this leader has never done that. A leader has the ability to lead a nation out of economic despair and this President has not. His campaign was based on constant criticism of the Republican Party and their candidate and their ideas. Mr.Rommney has run a state, created a successful company and ran the Olympics and yet this country elects the guy with no leadership skills and a horrible track record over the last 4 years. It is indeed very disappointing and not a good reflection of our values.

The media in this country is so biased and thrilled with the results of this election and certainly not shy about showing their true leanings. Very sad comment on where we stand as a nation. We accept failure and low goals for the future. Shameful..

1) Get rid of this "I reject your reality and substitute my own" mentality

2) Weed out the rigid religious ideology that dismisses anyone who doesn't feel the same

3) Stick to conservative fiscal stance

It’s kind of funny – people are still on radio and TV, saying ‘well the election is over, why can’t everyone just get along?’ Let me explain – a couple of years ago some of us got concerned about the explosion of the debt and the size of government. We spoke up and advocated for smaller government and lower taxes. We were mocked by people on CNN and others, called ‘teabaggers’ and branded as hateful racists. For the last two years, the president has systematically divided us against each other. Daily, folks like me who work hard, make money and pay their bills are called bad people who need to be punished. Biden said that anyone voting conservative wants to put people of color ‘back in chains’. The president encouraged his followers to take ‘revenge’ on their fellow citizens by voting. I am not angry with ANYone who did not vote as I did on Tuesday, but I feel sincerely hated by about half of my fellow Americans because of my beliefs about the size and scope of government. People who agree with me are daily characterized by most of the media, particularly CNN, as being simply unintelligent and racist – neither is the case.

Forgive us if we’re a bit timid now about discussing things and aren’t signing up in droves for fireside sing-alongs. Why don’t YOU TRY showing a bit of respect for people you don’t agree with on everything, and enter into civil and rational discussions with them, instead of just ostracizing and demonizing them, and we can all get along just great?

Here it is...a week out from the Election...and the GOP still doen't "get it". You cannot insult...belittle and disenfranchise women/blacks/gays/latinos/the elderly/the poor/the disabled/pro-choice/religions other than Christianity/and anyone else who disgrees with your extremist position...and stand a chance of winning a General Election. Nor should you. The POTUS is elected to represent everyone...a nation...not just the chosen few or the holier than thou.

1- Keep religion out of Politics: It is your right to practice whatever religion you like to follow . It is my rigt  that you don't impose your religious values or laws over me .

2- Be honest and take responsibility: If you lie everytime you open your mouth it is your fault not the fault of media .

3-Be respectful : If you don't respect , women/blacks/gays/immigrants/poor and people of different religion don`t expect people would like you in return. I never find so many disrespectful republicans towards president of America as they were and are towards Obama.

Honestly I find republicans very arogant and disillusional. They are out of touch with the real problems . They want a limited goverment when it comes to regulation of rich people , yet they want to regulate a woman even in her bedroom. They are backward , religious , intolerant people who simply doesn`t wanna listen to anyone else. It is really hard to trust such people .

So if we made a law or change the system of tax returns, we would be better of then Taxing the so called rich more. Here is my story and point. It is really hard to work and pay taxes in when you work beside others that get double back ,if not more then they paid in. So what I pay in and up to 2 others go back to my coworker. That helps WHO???? Someone needs to look at TAX REFUNDS before we start taxing others more.

..the American 50/50 split elections show & prove that it is undemocratic to have 1 president for half of the country only being without the support of the other half...it is about time to consider appointing 2 presidents, 1 for America's foreign affairs, a democrat (D) and 1 for Amarica's internal affairs, a republican (R)..the fiscal cliff case should therefore be solved by a republican president...it is as simple as that..

99 out of every 100 articles posted on "Latino in America" discusses affairs concerning illegal immigrants, specifically, of Mexican origin. This is increasingly boring and betrays journalistic unpreparedness. There are very many Latinos in "Murrica" that are neither illegal, nor of Mexican descent, so please CNN writers, either go to your local high school media center and bone up on the history of Latinos in the United States, or change the title of the story board to "Undocumented Mexicans in the U.S."
