How can you make a time lapse video with a regular digital camera?
How do you add audio or music to a time lapse video? I have done time lapse videos in the past, but could not add any audio to it.
How to get to the Google hangout?
I just did a time lapse video, and recorded the sound from my mobile and then converted into a wmv file and uploaded both the time lapse video, and the audio/sound to Windows movie maker... and found that both the time lapse and the audio works!!!
My sony digital camera has a time lapse feature so it is easy for me to take time lapse videos, without that feature, I think you have to take a multiple amount of photos like about 1500 to 2000 to make a time lapse video, from an ordinary digital camera?? Would be grateful for more tips on same...
Thanks for the questions so far - keep them coming!
Any suggestions for iPhone or small camera user?
ALso, anything special I should do with tripod to make sure it does move?
Can you make sugestions for shooting timelapse in movie and with still images?
If you were looking to capture time-lapse segments on a journey, say by foot, what weight-conscious tools of the trade would you employ?
What video file format is most widely accepted in terms of commercial viability (being able to shop the TL video), and which consumer-end model of camera is easiest on the budget which records in this format as well as offers a decent array of time-lapse options, especially low-light situations?
Matt in Bangkok
How to make a timelapse of busy street in which you can see ray of lights of moving cars?
I submitted couple of time-lapse before and I love time-lapsing
Ooooh, oooh, ooooh! Meeee meeee meeeeeeee!
I have three questions I'd like to ask right off the bat, either for hangout participants or fellow readers or whoever wants to join in.
1. Why use time-lapse? What stories do you think are best told in this way?
2. Have you ever had a time-lapse go totally awry? What "learning experiences" or challenges you've faced?
3. What are your favorite examples of time-lapse in big-market applications, like film and advertising?
I know you have to film/photograph for a long period of time for a time lapse to come out well. Do you have any tips on how you get your camera battery to last so long?
and how to make that moving time-lapse?
hope i'll be awake later to participate
Describe the specifics of your time lapse; time interval, f-stop, exposure time, camera used and and other settings.
To clarify for those of you in the comments, the Google Hangout will he viewable right here at 3 p.m. ET.
Any tips for leaving a camera for a long period of time and assure that it doesn't get moved or knocked by wind or say the curious opossum?
is there a program that can put it together and edit?
Best cameras for time lapse?
Hello all...here to see if there is anything I can incorporate into my non-time-lapsed reports and videos.
Thanks for posting a question, David. We're going to try to work it into the hangout.
Anyone else, please keep posting your thoughts/questions/etc. and we'll get 'em in if we can.
Thanks Mark, too. I'm passing on your question.
Thank you in advance for this very helpful tips. I really really love time-lapses. Hope to do time-lapses at the summit of every mountain i climb. Thanks everyone and have a great week ahead.
Why did the stream stop?
Sorry folks, we dropped out. We'll be back in a moment with a new link. Thanks for watching!
We're back! Here's the new video link:
I saw some comments and thought I might mention take a stab at some questions…
First, there are two types of timelapses a person can create. The first uses individual photographs played back through a software program and the other utilizes a video camera where the whole video is captured and then sped up in post-production.
Using individual photographs is usually the best way to go as you will have come away with a higher quality image.
Further, you would need some sort of tripod or sturdy spot to keep the camera in the same place without moving, for what could be a fairly significant amount of time.
In exploring a photographic timelapse, you would first need to purchase a digital camera with a built in intervalometer or you could purchase a intervaolmeter separately. The purpose of this tool is to control the number of shots taken and the intervals in which these shots will be taken.
The next step would involve finding your subject and determining the length of time you want to capture the subject for. This is all personal preference and choice that is best understood through trial and error.
Once you have taken your shots, you can use a program like QuickTime pro which will compile your timelapse and allow you to choose the playback speed of your final product.
An example of this process might be a timelapse that contains say, 360 shots:
If you were to take 1 shot every 10 seconds for 360 shots you would have a timelapse that would take 60 minutes to complete. This is of course because 10 seconds multiplied by 360 equals 3600 seconds or 60 minutes of total time. Now if you were to drop these 360 shots into a software program, you would have the choice to choose your playback speed. So if you were to choose a playback speed of 30 frames per second (30 individual shots per second) then you would come away with 12 second of final product or timelapse video.
360(shots) % 30(frames per second) = 12 (seconds of timelapse)
If you were to play it back at 24 FPS, you would have 15 seconds of video and so on… Those choices however, are all personal and dependent upon the final product you want to achieve.
360 % 24 = 15
There is really no right or wrong length to a time lapse, these are simply easy numbers to understand for our purposes.
Finally, you can create a moving timelapse but this would require a motorized dolly that would move your camera a specific amount of distance, per the amount of shots you want to take. The lowest I have seen such a dolly costing is around $1000…
Hopefully some of what I said helps… Check my website three-field.com for an example of a Las Vegas timelapse and shoot me an email with any questions.
HOW COME NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THE GUNS THE BOSTON BOMBERS HAD IN THEIR POSESSION?
WERE THEY OBTAINED ILEGALLY. WERE THEIR BACKGROUND CHECKS DONE. IT SEEMS THAT THESE ARE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS, AT THIS TIME, TO BE ASKING, DURING THIS GUN DEBATE. ONE OFFICER WAS MURDERED AND ANOTHER WAS CRITICALLY INJURED, AND IF EVERYTHING THAT COULD BE DONE HAD BEEN DONE, MAYBE WE COULD HAVE CAUGHT BOMBER #1, ALIVE, AND 1 POLICE OFFICER WOULD STILL BE HERE TO FULFILL HIS DREAMS.
THIS IS FOR ANDERSON COOPER, MY FAVORITE.
