Dance class in Central Park, Odessa, Ukraine

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     As a volunteer at a children's shelter in Odessa, Ukraine, Robert Gamble works with homeless teenagers. At the shelter, students have access to public school, computers and even dance classes. He was shooting fellow volunteer Oksana's regular dance class when he suggested taking the dance outside to Odessa's Central Park. There, the girls coordinated routines to Shakira's "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," a power anthem created for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. "Part of Oksana's class is about dancing, but it's also about self-esteem," Gamble says, pointing to some of the inspiration lyrics. "I can see why she uses that song."

Social orphans dance in Central Park, Odessa, Ukraine. These kids live   at The Way Home, a shelter for former street kids and kids neglected by  parents  in Odessa, Ukraine. As the Director of This Child Here, I provide some support to these kids. We spent an afternoon in the park, making videos and photos. The dance teacher, Oksana, seen on the dance room floor, works with them daily.  With permission from a pizza place located on the park, the girls plugged in their sound system and speakers, turned up the music and started dancing.  Then there were some jumps off the picnic bench and shots of  the troupe. Bystanders looked on.

So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.”
