Tisha B'Av in Jerusalem (Part 1)

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Jerusalem resident nomadicjames captured these images Monday of Israelis praying at the Western Wall for Tisha B'Av, a Jewish annual fasting day commemorating the destruction of the ancient First and Second Temples in the city. "Many Jews come and pray at the wall, it's a day of fasting and prayer," he says. "They remember and pray that one day [the temple] will be built again." Security was also tight for the occasion, he adds, with Israeli soldiers guarding those praying at the scene.

Tish B'Av is an annual fast day in Judaism. The fast commemorates the destruction of the 1st Temple and 2nd Temple in Jerusalem.

It began today at sunset and will end tomorrow (July 16th) in the evening.

I took these pics a couple of hours ago at the Western Wall where many people will come to pray. The book of Lamentations is traditionally read during this time.
