Thai Wats (Buddhist Temples) in Malaysia.

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Hema Sekaran visited the Wat Machimmaram temple in Kelantan, Malaysia specifically to visit the largest sitting Buddha statue in Southeast Asia, shown in the first two pictures of this gallery. Additionally, she visited the Dragon Boat Temple and the world's longest sleeping Buddha statue. Sekaran is not Hindu, but she identifies strongly with Buddhist teachings and practices. She says: 'I was interested in visiting these temples mostly because of their beautiful architecture and serene environment, where you get to see a lot of magnificent Buddha statues, Buddha's life story drawn on the interior walls of the temples and life of Buddhist monks.' Her first image was featured as CNN's Travel Photo of the Day for January 31, 2014.

In Kelantan, a state in Malaysia, there are some of the most significant Buddha statues including largest sitting Buddha in Southeast Asia and longest sleeping Buddha in Southeast Asia. Kelantan is definitely a treat for those who want to visit beautiful Buddhist temples with magnificent architecture and strong Thai-Buddhist culture =)
