Impact Your World
Laura's Story and Kingdom Racing
We get that question often. We have our motto, “Deliver God’s Word Through Motorsports,” and we often explain simply that we are a Christian IndyCar team, serving God in the INDYCAR Series. But what does that really mean?
The truth of the matter is that Kingdom Racing is making a real difference in people’s spiritual lives, whether it’s at the track or away, in person or online. We touch people’s lives in a way that is both incredibly humbling and deliberately noble.
The Miles of Smiles Ministry is a huge part of this, and we kicked it into high gear at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May.
Sometimes, it is not until much later that we are able to gauge the true impact we have on people. Most of the time, we never really can. Truly, only God knows until that wonderful day we join him in Glory. But every once in a while, we get a note or call back from our guests or fans regarding the impact Kingdom Racing has had on them. Each one emboldens us to press on with His work.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
Once such example is a recent note we received from one of the hosts of our first Miles of Smiles family at Indianapolis, Laura and her daughter, Josie.
During Laura and Josie’s VIP day at IMS, several of us sat down with them at various parts of the day, listening to her background and explaining the Kingdom Racing story, our involvement and roles, and most importantly, the assorted stories of our surrender to Christ. Using the incredible framework of the Way of The Master evangelism training, we were truly able to reach Laura right there in the presence of her daughter, explaining what it meant to have a healthy relationship with Christ and why we even need one in the first place, that we are all guilty of violating God’s Holy Law and shall stand one day in judgment for our sins, and that without Christ, eternal peril awaits. There was one specific point where you could tell Laura was convicted, that she knew her relationship with the Lord was not right. She believed and prayed occasionally, but her Bible was nothing more than a dust-gathering decoration on her nightstand. Her Bible was right there, but she never read it. We gave Laura and her daughter each a personalized daily devotional an explained the importance of spending time each day diving in and reading God’s Word.
As noted, the host who nominated Laura contacted us to follow up on what had been happening in Laura’s life. Not only did she begin reading her devotional, but she dusted off her Bible and began reading it daily. Laura has begun praying every day and confessed that the Lord was speaking back to her in amazing ways. She has also developed a renewed interest in attending church.
So much has her daily walk with the Lord matured, Laura has even reopened communication with Josie’s father and telling him about the impact it has made on her life and outlook. She is passing Him on.
When we first met Laura, she was broken but recovering, trying as hard as she could to keep herself and family above water and just thankful for a day out at the race track to relax and have a little time off. All of her closest relatives had passed way, many of them, including her mother, just within the last few years. The cumulative of those losses had impacted her deeply and left her grasping for something to regain her balance and lift her up. What she wasn’t aware of was that the answer was right there all along, sitting under a thin sheen of dust on her nightstand. All she needed to do was pick it up and start communicating with her Lord.
It sounds like she’s well on her way. All we know is that it very truly is in God’s hands now, and there is no better place to be!
We pray continually for all of our hosts, guests, and fans daily and ask that you please join us in praying for Laura and her family, that her walk shall continue to blossom and Christ’s love shall flow through her and onward to those closest to her.
