    African culture: Street art

    Cape Town Urban Art

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Canadian iReporter PeterAWolf captured these stunning street artworks in Cape Town's District 6, a famous area of the city where residents were forcibly relocated under the country's former apartheid government. His taxi driver for the trip had lived in the area himself, and told him that much of the artwork had been done by a group of seven anonymous artists. "It was interesting to me that South Africa has such an active art scene, with so much interesting and dynamic art, almost all of which seemed shaped by their recent history," he said. "Art is an integral part of the healing that seems to be taking place and I am glad that those opportunities for expression are not just tolerated, but valued."
