    Back to The USSR

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter tonyc3, now living in Israel, returned to her childhood town of Simferopol in the Crimea republic in southern Ukraine, but was surprised to find it had hardly changed at all since its days as part of the former Soviet Union, even down to the statue of Lenin in the city center. "[There's always] some magic in a place where you lived once, because you remember only feelings and not an exact place," she said. "But when you get back, you can see it, with or without changes. And you feel like you never [left]." Her eighth image was featured as CNN's Travel Photo of the Day for October 22, 2013.

This is a photo story about city from my childhood. I lived here at last period of The USSR (end 80's - 90's), before final collapse of Soviet Union system. Today, 20 years later, I came back to this city to capture a new days of this beautiful place, but I discovered, that city still the same !!!! Almost nothing changed! Still you can see a Lenin statue in a middle of square in city center. Also same small yards with an old post boxes, drunk old mans on a ground from a morning time, borring teenagers...
aI hope this way of living will be changed one day. Or maybe they just like to live in this way ?
