Self Immolation for Free Tibet Movement
According to the police, “The monk set himself on fire in an alley away from the crowd. Police and residents put out the flames with fire extinguishers and rushed him to the hospital. He was taken to the Tribhuwan University hospital as he suffers third degree burns.”
Recently in February 13th, 2013, 22 years old Drupchen Tsering had set himself to fire, marking the 100 years of proclamation of Tibet’s independence’ by the 13th Dalai Lama.
Nepal homes to more than 22,000 Tibetan exiles, who have been residing in Nepal in different refugee camps and Monasteries.
The Free Tibet Movement started when Dalai Lama, Tibet’s political and spiritual leader, in exile in India was followed by 100,000 Tibetans and established the Tibetan Government-in Exile. The Chinese invasion of Tibet has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Tibetans and the imprisonment and torture of thousands.
Till now 102 Tibetans in their ancestral homeland or nearby Chinese regions have self-immolated since 2009 to protest against Chinese rule and in support of the FREE TIBET MOVEMENT.
