    National Underwear Day

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Sunsetlady attended the National Underwear Day celebration organized by the online underwear retailer Freshpair in New York's Times Square on August 5. The world record attempt for the largest gathering of people in their underwear failed -- only 779 participants showed up, far short of the record set in Utah last year. The iReporter photographed the participants as sponsors passed out prizes and locals posed with those wearing 'creative' undergarments. Toward the end, she joined in as well, wearing mini-shorts and posing with participants for a 'memorable' experience.

Do you have confidence to wear your underwear in public?

August 5 is a celebration of the National Underwear Day in Times Square, New York.

Freshpair started the National Underwear Day on August 5, 2003, with the hope of inspiring confidence in everyone, regardless of shape or size.
This year’s event is focused on body confidence awareness and empowers participant to be comfortable in their own skin.

The event was an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Gathering of People in Underwear. However, the final count was 779 participants, which was not enough to break the record that was set by Utah Undie Run in 2012 with 2, 270 participants.

Len and Dorothy Portnoy were the oldest participants who came from Florida with their daughter, Shari. They joined the event for fun.
