I attended my first Eid celebrations at Eidgah, Jaipur (Rajasthan, India) in 2012, with the sole aim of capturing interesting shots. I am an amateur photographer and while shooting I connect with my subjects photographically, rarely though as a person. However, on this occasion I was enchanted by the majesty of the festival. During prayers, there was a stillness looming over the chilled monsoon air, a stillness that made me feel grateful, thankful to something or somebody who I owed my existence to, and I couldn't help but join in the ceremonies - with as much as the camera allowed.
I have never since or before experienced such a powerful atmosphere. The power of collective belief, serenity and mirth is unique to Eid celebrations, I think.
