UNENDING LINE of FEMALE FILNER VICTIMS SEEM STAGED!
By now everybody has heard about the West Coast version of Anthony Weiner, otherwise known as San Diego Mayor Bob Filner.
Rejoicing that our sleepy little Navy town finally elected a Democrat to the Mayor's office last year after an eternity of being run by country-club Republicans, was short-lived. The downtown good ole boys were looking for something to hang on Filner to push him out of office and they surely discovered his weak spot: flirting with attractive women.
And the witch hunt has begun. Soon a receiving line of offended ladies harrumphed to the cameras--some with Attorney Gloria Allred in tow. Gloria, in fact, unveiled a sign today warning the water cooler set to steer clear of Filner's lothario den. I mean, office.
"Another woman has stepped forward to accuse San Diego Mayor Bob Filner of sexual harassment, and she was accompanied at a press conference this afternoon by civil rights lawyer Gloria Allred. While Allred confirmed that she’s not filing suit against Filner on behalf of vocational nurse Michelle Tyler (yet), she urged the city to conduct an investigation — and to hang a warning sign outside the mayor’s office in the meantime." said the website www.twitchy.com.
The Los Angeles litigator is adept at media stunts such as this. But the OB Rag put the Filner issue into a proper perspective, despite the inflammatory new office sign. "The entire weeklong onrush of negative stories continues to bear a resemblance to a charade."
Now that Mayor Filner has gone to rehab to address his "issues," the hounding continues unabated. The OB Rag website has noticed a pattern here where even hearty Democrats are frothing at the mouth and calling for Filner's head.
"The barrage of invective against Filner, the free use of hearsay from political insiders, and the eagerly shoddy reporting of it by the major media enthralled with the town’s Big Boys – all of it — suggests a set up." The Rag asks "have even our local elected Democrats in this Potemkin village cut a deal with the Republican overlords to run Filner out of office by an unending series of female victimization?" It seems to be the case and is looking more so with every passing day and put-upon woman.
Frances Zimmerman commented in the OB Rag about "the howling outrage over anecdotal sexual harassment by the Mayor (that) has contributed mightily to the arch-enemies of his liberal Democratic administration of this city."
I am certainly not excusing Mayor Filner's bad behavior and he does need to get his act together and stop acting like a horndog. The Mayor will, hopefully gain in rehab, a working knowledge and respect for interpersonal boundaries and dignified interactions with women.
I can cut the man a break because he is 70 years old--a dinosaur to the younger crowd. Plus the Mayor has done a lot of wonderful things in his many years of public service. But please stop this parade of unseemly women coming forward. It is getting way too much, seems staged and is giving San Diego a nickname now far worse than the old moniker "Enron-by-the-Sea."
