Foster Mom Charged in Murder of 2 Year Old Tot
A Rockdale, Texas woman has been charged in the murder of her two-year old foster child, Alexandria Hill. Rockdale police said Sherill Small admitted slamming Alexandria “Alex” Hill to the floor of the home where she and her husband, Clemons Small III, made their living by keeping foster children. Small was angry because the tot woke up and got herself food and water.
The Smalls were selected by Texas MENTOR, a foster care agency which contracts with CPS to place children in foster homes. According to State records, during the last two year Texas Mentor has 15 deficiencies ranging from lack of updated background checks to leaving children unattended for extended periods of time.
The foster father had prior drug convictions that were overlooked. It was reported that The tot was initially removed from her parents home because they were smoking a marijuana joint after the tot went to bed.
The child, Alexandria Hill, was flown to Scott and White McLane Children's Hospital in Temple where she was placed on life support. Doctors and autopsy results determined that Alexandria had brain hemorrhaging and retinal hemorrhaging in both eyes, mortal injury essentially from a blow to the top of the head, and also received a bruise to the right side of the face and had a lacerated liver. The child was removed from life support on Wednesday and Small was arrested for murder the following day. Bail has been set at $100,000.
