When the ocean suddenly retreats
The tide goes way far out, and suddenly the ocean exposes the coral, sea bed and fish are flopping on the sand.
Well, you know what's coming! A tsunami.
Head to high ground and be aware of your surroundings. I have been in them and they can frighten you so much you are paralyzed with fear before you can move to safety.
And they come quickly. Always have an escape route when you are at the beach. Know where high ground is and how to reach it quickly with your friends and family. You never know when one will hit: on any beach.
And, in Hawaii, we have been on calm beaches that have been hit by 60 foot rogue (freak) waves that came out of nowhere. On days with calm oceans. You never can really know what's coming next near any ocean.
