Sufi Dancing Eid Celebration
Cairo has famous Sufi troupes of dancers who perform across the city for various festivals. This video was taken on Friday, the 2nd day of the Eid festival 2013, in AlAzhar park, located in Cairo, Egypt. The park was full of families and youth.
They joined around clapping and enjoying the show as the Sufis began drumming and dancing. Sufis are a type of Muslim who often use music or dance to worship God and meditate on the names of Allah (the word for "God" in Arabic). These dancers begin turning, and do not stop throughout the whole show which lasted about 30 minutes. Their outfits consist of 3 skirts, 2 of which are brightly colored and removed as they twirl. Here's a quick 40 second clip of my favorite part of their dance.
