Online Travel Companies May be the Answer
We always look at the flight and hotel packages because these are more economical than buying the airline ticket alone, or booking a hotel separately. But we also read the reviews of past travellers regarding which are good and comfortable hotels, hotels which are near transportation hubs, and those which provide efficient service. The rating they provide is an excellent indication of the condition of the hotel being offered.
The difference in the total cost of the package usually depends on the type of hotel ( 3Star, 4Star) and their location. Hotels which are located within commercial or tourist areas and transportation terminals are usually a bit more expensive than those outside the city proper.
My friend and I have been lucky with online travel companies. When we were in Cairo we used Thomas Cook. Now that we are based in Athens, Greece we have used Expedia.com.
Upon arrival at the airport of destination, it is wise to go to the Information/ Tourist counter, You may have done your research on the tourist spots and places of interest but there is always additional and more current information they can provide. This is where we got the Paris Museum Pass and Paris Visite when we were in Paris last year. The Paris Museum Pass gave free entrance to over 60 museums and monuments. The Paris visite allowed us unlimited travel on metro, coach, RER networks, among others.
Of course we were not able to see all the 60 museums because we only stayed for 5 days. But the cost was a big discount.
